Problems with Picture on 28" widescreen tv

Brought a new tv recently (a samsung 28" flatscreen plano). But am having a few problems with the picture.

When there are large amounts of black and white on the screen there is a strange clashing where the two meet. Also when watching something in 4:3 mode when there is something bright on the screen, it causes the border to bend.

Anyone know what might be the cause of this and also how I cold fix it. (I do not have access to the service menu)
