I thought it was only a DB7 in Tombraider?

Only  Like I would say "No thanks" to one if someone threw the keys at me!

No, it was a Vanquish in Tomb Raider. Not sure when it was filmed but it would have been a very early pre-production model most likely. At least Lara didn't get it blown up mind.

Thank God Bond is back to Aston. Can't wait to see the gadgets.

In that case, why didn't Bond stick with a BMW or get a Ferrari?

The Aston looks damn ugly, and whilst it may have the grunt, the name means nothing to a lot of people because only the well healed can buy one, whereas Ferrari is well known because of F1 (even though most people still can't afford one).

Are you insane! That Aston Martin is gorgeous.

For something damn ugly, check out that bird in your sig. (IMO of course ;) )

To insult a car is one thing (even though I was right, it is pug ugly), but to insult the delectable Kirsten it is not. Prepare to be skewered where the sun don't shine with a red hot poker.

Bond in a ferrari?

Even as a suggestion?

What on Earth is the world coming to? It'll be 'Bond should wear clogs and a kaftan' next.

Hopefully this will put an end to the blatant product placement of the last 3 films, at least with regard to cars.

Sorry but no,

The Aston is a damn fine car, but to say he should stick with a box on wheels like a BMW? These days they are pretty common. Bond might as well be driving a nice Mondeo with a few coat hangers in the back for his tux. :D

CLH - I stand corrected. It was the timing of the film that made me think it must have been a DB7. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a pre production model, they where doing the rounds for quite a while as a concept before it went into production.

MMMM baby! What model is that? DB9? It'll be nice to see the old AM back on the screen.

Aston Martin Vanquish

It's their new top-of-the-line 'standard' model until the Vantage version (twin superchargers, 700+ BHP) comes out in 2 years.

Actually, that'd be the Vanquish ;)

Sweet car. Fits into the bond image very well! Pitty Halle Berry is the bond girl - think that they could have done better although she is a good actress

That's what happens when one posts way past bedtime.

And I'm editing it now too!

So Bond really has to have a British car does he? And the name of that model is what exactly? Aston Martin is owned by Ford isn't it, so the Vanquish could technically be called an American car rather than British. Can't use a Rolls Royce cos that's German owned. How about a TVR? Is that still British?

Still think it doesn't need to be British. Maybe one of the more conventional Maserati's would fit the Bond image? Certainly last longer than an Aston Martin.

Don't remember saying anything about it needing to be a British car, it just needs to be one that fits his image, not some ordinary looking saloon car, or some over priced BMW (Z8)

Oh yes and TVR is still british

Oh, I think she's fairly attractive but with the acting ability of a table leg!

Actually, that Aston Martin is a fine car. Still like to see Bond back behind the wheel of a Lotus again - still my favourite car from the bond series.

Mind you some of the best, if bizzarest, car chases have been in a citroen 2cv and one of those Indian powered-rickshaw things (sorry forget the name for them). Not too mention that chase in Venice when the boat comes out of the water...

I'd be willing to compromise on the TVR then if need be. Very gracious aren't I!;)

:D Maybe he doesn't use em because their build quality is so dodgy.

Hmm, TVRs are a bit too 'lairy' as well as fragile.

Astons are perfect as they match Bond's atributes: suave, powerful, elegant etc.

As to being owned by Ford, yes, but at least they are still built in the Britain.

Re: Maserati, they are owned by Fiat along with ferrari, so see 'clogs & kaftan' comment.

Built in Britain. Knew there was a reason I didn't buy cars made here. Still puzzled over your obsession with 'clogs & kaftans'.

There was a comparison between one of the latest Ferraris and the Vanquish in Top Gear magazine a few months back, and they went for the Ferrari. And no, Clarkson wasn't doing the reviewing, he's too biased. :) I just don't like Astons. They look too big, too clunky, and too similar to the last one they produced. Maybe Aston Martin should get some external design consultants in too see what they come up with.

The likes of Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, Morgan, etc. have used the hand built = quality = inflated pricing argument far too long.

I've never been much of a fan of Top Gear magazine - Max Power but with 'proper' cars, and I've always been a fan of Astons, large, elegant with bags of power; ferraris are just too effeminate IMHO.

I should also have added that of course they are designed (as well as built) in Britain, thus preserving their quitessential character.

The only other make that comes close is Bristol, though nothing suitable for Mr B until their new model, the 'Fighter', comes out next year.

As for clogs & kaftans? Well they're as appropriate to Bonds wardrobe as a ferrari (or any other make of car save AM) would be to his garage.
