Hi everyone, I'm looking for some help please!

My friend has a Samsung E900 phone. I'm giving her a surprise gift of a memory card for it. I want to fill it with music before I give her it. I have the card and a card reader. Is it as simple as putting the mp3s onto the card from my computer and then when she puts the card into her phone it will recognise the songs?

Or does it need the Samsung connected and use of a PC Suite or something? That would be a problem and somewhat lessen the surprise!

Many thanks,
Jason.

I've just got a D900i - you can either place the music in the Music folder via the card reader, or enable the USB mode and hook up the phone via its cable and transfer that way. Let the phone format the card first though.

/edit - doh, just realised you've said she already has the phone. Format the card as "FAT" and then create a "Music" folder. Stick albums in there, should work fine.

Sweet, thanks for the quick reply! More questions though - just FAT or FAT 32? Also there is an option for 'Allocation Unit Size', it is at 16kb, just leave it at that?

Oh, can there be sub-folders for the artists in the Music folder?

Apologies for all the questions, I just want it to play when she puts the card in!

Thanks again.

Yeah - FAT and not FAT32, with the default allocation size.

I have a load of albums on my mobi as:

Music/Album Name/tracks.mp3

Annoyingly on my phone you can't just listen to a directory, you have to add all the tracks to a playlist first, then listen to the play list. The playlists are stored on the phone itself, there's only four, and you're only allowed 30 tracks within a playlist. If you want to remove tracks from a playlist you have to do it one at a time, so its going to be murder managing!

Thanks very much ic, it worked perfectly! Well, it worked exactly as you said it does in your last post - totally ridiculous that you can't just play a folder 1 song after another, not impressed with Samsung.
