My Nan is a bit up with the times with her LCD TV but she's still using a VCR and Videoplus to record things. She's realised that it's time to move on to a Sky+ type affair (which she's seen at my parents').

She asked me to find a good one for her.

She only needs Freeview but I reckon dual tuner would be better. Doesn't need huge storage capacity as she'll tend to delete things straight away. Not a huge budget but she doesn't mind spending for quality, etc. I'd say no more than £120-150 tops.

Any suggestions? I have Sky HD so not really up to speed with Freeview PVRs - not sure what the good brands are or how good they are at the mo.

Would be grateful...

HUMAX PVR9200 is good enough for me. Got mine for £199 last year (Having owned the single tuner version for a couple of years before that). Don't kno how much it is now.

In summary:-
- Dual Tuner
- record two things at once whilst playing another, pause live TV, watch before recording has finished - i.e. all combinations that you could possibly want.
- Easy to use
- Picture quality = broadcast quality
- FFD/RWD 2x, 4x, 16x, 64x
- Big Hard disk can't remember size - I think its 160GB (never been above half full and that's with loads of KIDs TV programmes stored up!)

No complaints problems or drawbacks that I've discovered yet.

Another vote for the Humax.
Fantastic bit of kit, easy to setup and operate.
You can get one online now for about £180.
Now availiable in black as well as silver

I have a tivo for sale in the classifieds £60 inc, the subscription for the tivo service is £10 a month or £200 for a lifetime subscription but well worth it IMO as it's much more than a PVR

top bit of kit but no tuners though.

I can recommend the Hummy - piece of **** to operate and pretty solid with the new firmware.

If the Humax is too expensive, the Digifusion FVRT200 (which is no longer made) might well fit the bill. It often comes up as Grade A 2nd hand stock in various places as they had so many returned when the power supplies failed.

It has all of the features mentioned above that the Humax has (but I'm not suggesting it is a feature rich as the Humax is, but I'm sure it is good enough for your Nan).

I got a Daewoo 9502T for my aunt several months ago. She is in no way Techno savvy and finds it incredibly easy to use and has had no complaints so far.

£150 (or maybe less) IIRC.
