my friend needs a first player. I did follow which was good/bad at the time I got mine (with the help from the forum and its mythical search function) but I have completly lost touch now. SO here is the deal.

Can you recommend a good player that would be multiregion (etc...) from a reliable source. I think she does not mind paying an extra tenner to get 0 hassle. The budget is circa £200.

I would be grateful for any ideas.

For £200 there are only two players I would consider. They are the Toshiba 210e and the Pioneer DV444.

Both excellent picture and sound wise but the Pioneer is reportedly the better CD player and looks abit more sexy.

Well contrary to the above, the Toshiba SD210E is apparently the better CD player.

What Hi-Fi have got a round up of £200-£300 players this month and out of 9 other players the Toshiba wins. Here's the summary of the Pioneer and the Toshiba:

Pioneer 444

FOR: Fine performance as a movie-maker; strong specifications; easy to use and stylish

AGAINST: The perfomance isn't quite musical enough in stereo

Toshiba SD210E

FOR: Everything; picture; socketry; sound; size; usability

AGAINST: OK, so there's no remote hack, but you can buy it chipped

Then again, a lot of people in here are happy with the Pioneer 444. :)

Basically he can't go wrong with either one as they're both great players for the money. :)
