View Full Version : Friday the 13th films - will there be a boxset?
I know Friday the 13th 1-6 are on r1, but I want to know if all 9 or 10 are going to be re-released uncut in a boxset? Has anyone any info?

I think that might be unlikely as I think the later ones (last 2 or 3) are owned by New Line while all the early ones are Paramount.

In the US, Parts 1-8 (Jason Takes Manhattan) are owned by Paramount. Jason Goes To Hell and Jason X are the property of New Line, so a boxed set is unlikely.
Uncut versions could conceivably happen but probably not until Paramount have put out the theatrical versions of parts 7 and 8 - presumably due out this October, based on the release pattern so far.
In the UK it would appear that Part 1 is owned by someone other than Paramount - they have recently issued (or are about to) Part 2 and Part 3 is coming soon. I done some checking a while back and it would appear that Warner own Part 1 in Australia, and so could possibly do so in the UK too.
It can be a real pain collecting film series when they are owned by a number of different studios - for example Elm Street, Die Hard, etc.
Oh well...

I would have thought an uncut print of Part 7 would be the holy grail to Friday 13th fans! It's one of the most butchered films of all time.

Warner do indeed own Friday the 13th part 1, they have in their UK vaults a complete uncut print & a cut down R rated version. As most horror fans will know the original cinema & video release were uncut, but they sneakily resubmitted a cut R rated print for the BBFC 18cert video rereleases.
While at Warner's London office I saw a sample of the proposed dvd cover, I was told they will release it in the UK some time this year, no date has been finalised & no one knows which version it will be.
It might be worth holding on for the Warner Japan release also on the cards for later this year as i'm sure that will be uncut.
As for Paramount US doing uncut versions, I doubt very much they will bother to re-edit & remaster complete versions, sadly the usual way is to stick the deleted poor quality workprint footage in a supplement.

dvdric - who is your source of info on Paramount doing the extras right now?, I hope this isn't wishful thinking on your part ;) , I'd love a special edition box set.
Last thing I read, Paramount US were undecided on actually putting one together.

According to this, the US cinema release date is April 12 2002, so how on earth could u have seen a pirate over 3 months before it comes out at US cinema. And the film does sound very daft indeed.

It has actually already been released in several countries before the US, and yes it does sound silly but I bet I still see it.

And it brings back memories of sneaking downstairs to watch them on BSB at 3:00 in the morning when I was 13 :)
