i bought the abyss region 1 great film my question is when i play the theatrical edition and get to the end of chapter 25 the film freezes and jumps to 26 has anyone else found this (will check it out on a different dvd player ) or is this a fault ? do you think

does this mean that the disc is faulty ? i'sorry if this is a stupid question but i'm rather new to the dvd stuff

nope - a lot of discs are 'double layer' to allow them to cram more on a disc. The layer change is normally at some point during the main feature and should not cause any concern. It can vary as to how a player deals with the layer change and some are good and some are not - if you are experiencing a particularly long pause, it might just be that your player is not that fast with the layer change, not really a disc problem.

er um i've played the special ed and this jumps in the same point in the film though differant chapter number does this mean it's still a layer change or is it just how it was copied or is the disc faulty ?and does anyone know anybody with this version who may be able to say if it happens to their copy plz

Because The Abyss SE DVD contains 2 versions of the movie, it uses seamless branching which some players have problems with, the Sammy 709 for one, I would guess your player is one that suffers, sorry for the bad news :(

Actually, my Samsung 709 has very few problems with seamless branching. I hear lots of conflicting reports about this.

It is more than likely a player problem - this happens with mine (a Hitachi) on Abyss and T2.
Not bad enough to get me to do anything about it though !
