View Full Version : Peter Greenaway Films On DVD

I wondered if anyone knows if or when any of Peter Greenaway's films will become available on region 2.

The one I particular like to see again is ' The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover', which was the first film I took my wife to see many years ago. Also would like to get hold of 'Belly of an Architect' and 'Draughsmans Contract'.

<i>The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover</i> isn't out on a UK R2 release AFAIK, but there are US (on Anchor Bay) and Australian discs available. The Australian disc, despite being labelled R4, is coded for all regions and is in PAL format, so should work fine on a Region 2 player - it certainly does on mine. I'm not sure about the Anchor Bay disc... AB releases are often region free but you can never be sure without checking. Excellent film anyway... the only other Greenaway I've seen to date is <i>Drowning By Numbers</i>, which I also enjoyed, so it's about time I checked out a few of his others I think... :)

...Greenaway's convoluted The Pillow Book has been out on DVD since about a year --- its chief attraction for some may be that it offers several fore and aft (and side) views of a completely nekkid Ewan McGregor...

The Fox Lorber North American disc of the 'Draughtsman's Contract' is region 0 and should play on a region 2 machine. Of course it is NTSC.:)

I would like to add my vote for a release of Drowning by Numbers. (Already have the AB R1 The Cook, The Thief...)
Weird stuff, those Greenaway films.

I've just looked on Amazon and all those films plus several other Greenaways are available on region 2.

The BFI editions (including The Draughtsman's Contract) are going quite cheap at the moment, should be about £7.99 on HMV's website.
