Nobody in Europe likes England. England invented the sport but has never had made any impact on world football.

He is right though. Apart from the World Cup in 1966 we have made little or no impact on the world stage.

Then again neither has Spain and neither have any nations in CONACAF so why does he think they should get it?

The bloke's talking absolute *****, by 2018 England should have a wealth of top quality stadia and should have no problems staging the event.

Isn't this the guy there was a TV documentary about saying he was corrupt and dodgy?

Wouldn't surprise me :|

There isn't a country on this planet with better Football facilities than England IMO but with the likes of FIFA/UEFA still thinking we are a nation of thugs, its going to take another generation before we gain some respect for our internal structure.

The best leagues in the world, the best policing and security at football matches in the world, the best stadiums and facilities in the world, by a mile, any day of the week. 62 years in 2018 since '66. It's our turn.

I'm surprised that Jack Warner is still involved in football.

These are just a couple of the allegations against him.

don't think we'll be any better in 2018, the current crop of once youngsters (Rooney, Owen, Gerrard, Hargreaves, Joe Cole, Terry, A Cole) are about as good as we'll ever get. And we're still ballsing it up!

Beat me to it.

Sorry I didn't quite understand that a prerequisite to holding the finals is that the national team must have been made some sort of impact on world football. Which is I guess why Japan/South Korea and the USA were selected then.

sorry, I wasn't directly responding to you, you just made me think about what our team will actually be like then and how good we are now POTENTIALLY

Well it seems an odd statement from a FIFA official doesn't it? It seems that he just hates England.

I suppose he'd rather bancrupt some poor CONACAF country

Separate discussion I guess, but Rooney aside, I'd say we'll odds on have another lot of players just as good in 2018.

For example before Owen there was Shearer, before that there was Lineker.

Thats not the point though. Have the USA, or Japan? Korea?

Not to mention the rest of his bordering on racist anti england rant.

Perhaps he realises he might not be able to get his fingers in as many dodgy financial pies should we get the 2018 world cup.

He should have been sacked after his dodgy ticketing scam last year.

Its only when you read what he said that it really gets under the skin

Fifa vice-president Jack Warner says "If the World Cup were to go to Europe, I'm quite sure, with the English luck as it is, they won't get it," Warner told BBC World Service.

"There are moves to give it to England. I must fight that."

"It will be Italy, Spain, or even France who will get the World Cup if it goes to Europe.

"Nobody in Europe likes England. England invented the sport but has never made any impact on world football."

Funny really if that was a leading figure UK footbal making these remarks about say Africa they'd be slated as racist and ignorant.

He's made anti-England remarks in the past and he's also said that he thinks there should be a British team as England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have too much power as individual footbal associations. Hopefully FIFA will reprimand him as his statement shows he is clearly prejudiced against England.

As a governing body, FIFA should at least be seen to be neutral. Having a vice-president so obviously biased against a member country is rather distasteful, to say the least.

He's probably narked with us because the BBC made a program about him and his family pocketing a fortune from re-selling World Cup tickets.

He's a disgrace who should be ignored.

It's his logic that wins the argument though.

England have had no impact on world football, so if the WC comes back to Europe, it should go to "Italy, Spain, or even France". So that'll be Spain who have never even come close to winning a World Cup, and France who have won it once, on home soil.

Like, err, England.

Jack ****** can get away with saying that sort of thing cos he's not white, therefore cant be racist.

The funny thing is that he represents concacaf, the only football region of even less importance than australasia. The only decent team they have are mexico? Or were they in south america so they get to play someone decent?

It's so bizarre. Obviously ****rags like the daily fail on one side come out with crap about supporting england, while on the other never miss a chance for a story that will harm it.

But why would he say that unless he had some sort of proof, or at least rumor? Why would they need russia to bride the officials, surely there would be a better way to do it?

It's interesting reading my comment earlier in this thread about the stadia England should have available for 2018.

I think if anything is going to screw up England's chances of hosting the tournament it's the fact that most of the venues proposed are either not built yet or need renovating and are struggling for financing or planning permission.

rbullivant
19-05-2010, 08:25
Wouldn't say most of the stadiums are not built. Admittedly there are a good few that need building but isn't that the usual case for any world cup? South Africa built theres from scratch pretty much

Much nicer to see a good few artists impressions in the bid book, than just some photos of current stadia

Because he was stitched up. Why else would the conversation be secretly recorded in the first place? She probably asked him a few loaded questions and he was trying to impress her.

Either way, the Mail are scum for jeopardising the bid for one day's circulation figures.

Wonder if the upcoming Panorama programme will futher dent our bid chances, some of the bookies now have Russia as favourites.

I'd be gutted if the WC didn't come here in 2018, but I'd rather FIFA be exposed and for there to be some changes. It's supposed to be the people's game and yet the bureaucracy that runs it is secretive, headed up by strawmen in suits and has numerous accusations of corruption on a regular basis.

The only problem is that programs like Panorama prob won't make a jot of difference, I don't even know how you could go about overhauling such an institution unless the changes were started from the inside.
