I bought a Dansai for my parents as an intro to DVD and they are very happy with it. One strange thing though. With the player RGB scarted to the TV it refuses to switch to the DVD display when you power up from standby. It does however switch to the DVD when you physically swith the DVD player on. I thought this was my parents TV but a friend reports the same behaviour with the same player and a different TV. Anyone else here observe this strange behaviour?
Yes same here.
It also has no w/s switching, not a problem really, just have to do it manually.
What it actually does is , it does not switch off the signal that turns your TV onto the scart input when you put it in standby. So when you turn it on from standby the scart does not get a new signal (so it does not switch to AV ).
The signal that switches your TV channel to the scart input is on all the time the player is on (even in standby). It goes off when you turn the player off with the power switch on the player.
The lack of a signal ito switch widescreen mode is the only (minor) fault i have found so far.Its not the only player to lack this feature though.
A work friend of mine has just got a new Dansai from Tesco's and has a problem.
The Audio level from DVD's is very low.
We are running via the supplied Scart lead which seems to give a good picture.
His TV when viewing normal TV is plenty loud enough at say 1/3 volume and really booming out at 1/2 volume.
He has a playstation2 attached via scart and that too is nice and load, really blasting your ears off at 1/2 volume.
However when playing DVD movies, you have to put the set to about 1/2 volume for normal viewing and nearer 3/4 to really kick some ass.
It's like it's about 1 quarters worth down on volume from other sources.
Does anyone else find this? Are you running at a higher volume than you normally view TV or play games on ?
Not sure if it's just like this, or a faulty model.
I told him that I had read a long time ago, DVD's are encoded at a lower volume, so that might be why.....
Let me know so I can help him out.
Thanks
I forgot to mention.
When we tried playing Audio CD's on the player they blasted thru at full volume through the TV.
DVD's are about 1/4 to 1/3 quieter than this.
Anyone ?

Hmmm...
Glad you have brought this subject, I dont have the dansai - I have a Panasonic RV31, I also find the volume is lower when playing DVD's, is this a well known thing? is the audio on DVD's in general always at a lower level?, I know it's not particulary a problem i just turn up the volume on my av amp, just curious.
Phil
The sound for DVDs is always lower .It is supposed to be like this.
Its is so the difference between the general volume (music ,speech etc) and explosions can be greater. So the dramatic parts of a DVd have more impact (higher volume) than on TV or VHS.There is no tape hiss with DVDs ,so they can do this without problems.
This is like the sound would be at the cinema.

P.S I can sleep well at night now knowing that my 5.1 setup is working as it should be :)
There are some options in the Dolby Digital Setup menu (? - from memory) that allow you to set different compression rates for DD signals. Haven't tried it (don't need to) but you might find that adding some compression will increase the perceived volume level.
