Just a quick reminder (because I'd forgotten myself too) that Temple of Doom is on BBC1 tonight at 8:00.

Haven't seen this in years, so I can't remember half the stuff that happens :o

Just hope the print is of better quality than last weeks debacle :(

Still one of my favouritest cinema experiences.......ever! The minecart chase is celluloid adrenalin at it's best and will be the donkey's conkers on the (eventual) DVD. Bring it on!:)

Worst one of the trilogy. The woman and the kids just don't work.

i thought this was fantastic - made me feel 8 years old again, but who the hell was Dan Ackroyd in it? saw him in the telly guide and he is indeed listed in the credits but couldnt spot him - anyone?

Apparently he played Weber, and you can find references to him if you search the script here:

http://www.corky.net/scripts/TempleOfDoom.html

I can't picure who he is at the moment.

I thought that i saw him earlier on in the film but wasn't sure.

He is pretty near the start, right after the car chase and just before he board the plane, Dan Ackroyd is the man who escorts him out of the car and into the plane.

Oops - I knew there was something I meant to do when I watched this film again - look out for Dan Ackroyd! I saw his name in the credits when I saw it at the cinema a year ago, and I always wanted to know who he was.
Oh well, hopefully I can check it on the DVD sometime soon...

Dan Ackroyd plays the guy who leads Indy, Willie and Shortie to Lao Ches plane. He says the line:

"Good heavens, aren't you Willie Scott, the famous american vocalist" (or something like that :p )

Hadn't seen it for years, but when I did I was soooooooo disappointed.

Was it always this crappy?

I loved it, easily as good as Raiders (but no where near as good as Crusade) and other than the flimsy plot it works on every level. Plus you've gotta love swearing in a PG rated film!:D

PS - For all of you who missed it, it's just before Indy cuts the rope on the bridge and it rymes with "sit".

I watched it and thought it was cack. But aside from that the thing I didn't get was where the evil guy with the goats skull on his head ripped out that guys heart in the cage, yet he was still alive for some time after it. WTF!!!!!!!
Please can someone explain how that happened, and where I can go to find this guy who will cure me of all heart defects.

A great, fun movie to watch - plus the print wasn't too bad either :)

Never realised until last night that the big hefty guard in the mine is played by some bloke who used to be in auf weidersen pet

Shame bits of it were cut out though :(

The same fella ( Pat Roach ) was in Raiders twice!

Once in the pub brawl and he's the one that get's splattered by the propella at the end of a fist fight.

[ah, chance to post anal spoiler queries again..nice one!]

How did the big gong roll perfectly to the window acting as a shield? How come Willie was in the perfect position for Indy to grab her and jump out the window?
How did Indy know the last rain guard would hold and he would fall perfect into Short Rounds car? How did Short Round position the car so Indy would fall into it? How did he know Indy was going to jump out the window?
Why did Willie go with him in the plane? Why did the pilots empty the fuel and jump off the plane instead of just going into the hold and killing Indy? Why did he charter a plane with his enemy in the first place? How come the inflatable boat didn’t once turn over as it plummeted out of a plane, and off a cliff?
How come a child escaping from Panchot palace found Indy first and gave him a piece of cloth with a clue on it? Why weren’t the British colonials in the palace eating curry and chips instead of monkey brain and snakes?
Why did Willie fall for Indy so easily, and why did he reject her? How did Indy know there was a fulcrum release lever when he was trapped in the room with the descending roof? Why were just the children being used as slaves to dig for a stone?
How is someone still alive after getting his heart ripped out, and why did the cut heal (not seen in BBC version)? After he turned to fire, why wasn’t his blackened skeleton left in the cage? How does a bit of fire snap Indy out of it so easily? Why does the little prince tell Short Round the correct way to go in the trolly only for Indy to go the wrong way? How can a trolly jump a gap and land perfect on its 4 wheels on the opposing tracks?

Well, I can't answer ALL your questions - but some :)

Take the train for instance, the maharaja (or however you spell it) tell Shortround to go left - but Indy sends them to the right (because he hasn't heard this information) - you can hear Shortround say 'No Indy, we're going the wrong way, we should go left' or words to that effect.

Why did Indy get on a plane owned by someone trying to kill him? Because he doesn't know it was owned by him - if you listen to when they arrive at the airport the guy who meets them explains that they are on a cargo plane because it's all he could arrange with such short notice - Indy didn't sort out the transport for them.

But as for the rest of your questions - you're right, they do stretch things a bit, but I still enjoy watching the film :)

Did anyone else find it almost unwatchable on the telly due to all the cuts and the way it was hacked about for Pan & Scan? I gave up watching in the end as I couldn't stand seeing voices coming from headless people and things happening with no explanatiion due to the cuts.

Roll on the DVD.

I found it almost unwatchable due to Kate Capshaw's performance. Is this woman supposed to be an actress ?
I know that it was supposed to hark back to the 30s adventure serials where the women characters were one dimensional, but this was ridiculous !

I enjoyed it last night a lot more than I usual do, actually...

I'm looking forward to everyone's opinions of <I>Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade</I> next week as I used to love it until I realised it was a paint-by-numbers remake of <i>Raiders of the Lost Ark</I> :o

It still rocks tho'

I hope when they finally get around to another Indy - they recast Short Round! :D

Anyway whilst I'm here, has anyone got the double DVD of <I>Romancing the Stone</i>/<i>A Jewel in the Nile</i> if so, is it any good?
I'm having cravings for the old days of pre-CGI adventure! :p

Im sure when Speilberg cast her it was for her acting talents and not for the fact that she would soon become Mrs Speilberg.

I've just read a biography of Spielberg - and he didn't start "seeing" her until a good long while after "Temple of Doom", in fact if i remember right he had a child with Amy Irving between finishing TOD and marrying Kate Capshaw.

But you're right she ruins the movie.

Have to admit to getting all exited when it started as the opening credits were 2.35 (on Sky). Of course they then took it to 1.85 or 1.77 later on. Seems a bit pointless to me to change it. If your going to show it widescreen then do so, properly.

In fact this is my major complain with Premier Widescreen as a lot of films are not shown in OAR of 2.35, despite it being a 'widecreen' channel.

I think only FilmFour screen stuff anamorphically and in it's OAR - be it 1.33:1, 1.85:1 or 2.35:1.

Tho' the odd older transfer still gets 'letterscanned' :p

No can do, apparently Joe Sixpack and Sue Housewife don't like seeing black bars on their new fangled widescreen telly.

The most disturbing example was of American Psycho - they just used the 4:3 print and reframed it for Premier W/S!!
