Hi guys,
Suffering from a hangover today so I thought I'd be nit picky and start asking questions on the forum as I have been a bit quiet recently.
Does anyone know if the BFI have plan's to release Nigel Kneale's adaptation of The Woman in Black? I know there is a Cartlon Canadian DVD release but it is really bare bones (although better than nothing) and there hasn't been a video release of this in the U.K. since the deleted release from the early nineties.
Also, the last series of BBC's Murder Rooms seems tragically absent from the DVD format as well. All we have is a VHS release and that's about it.
If anyone's got any ideas I'd much appreciate it.
Cheers,
Rob

The first series/serial of Murder Rooms has been available on R2 DVD for quite some time. Play is knocking it out at £12.99
Would love to see Woman in Black on DVD though. Ah, what the hell - I'll order it from Canada - it's only £11 :D

Thanks for the tip. Didn't realise about the 1st Murder Rooms being out and at £12.99 this has to be had. :)
As for the Canadian DVD, it's not bad for £11 and at least it will do for now but it soooo needs a proper UK release with all the works. I even remember the eerie TV trailers for WIB on the lead up to Christmas 89. If those are included with a Audio Commentary from Kneale it would be a must buy!

WIB, it has to be said, scared the bejesus out of me when I saw it on telly; at one point I jumped out of the chair and spilled a full glass of Guinness over myself.
Saw the stage version in London a few years ago too - every bit as good.

Christmas '89!@*? I taped the darned thing at the time (I would have bet it was about five years ago) but couldn't bring myself to watch it because I was convinced that the minute and half screw-up I made with the timer would ruin it for me.
I still have the tape, and I'm still meaning to watch it...or perhaps it's time to buy the DVD...

So many films, so little time...

John - It was showing again in 1994 on C4 but that has been it's only repeat since it was first shown in 1989. It is a shame really because it is the last great scary television ghost story made. Only recently did Nicole Kidman's The Others manage to capture the same atmosphere.
Carryonline - Saw the stage show also at the Fortune Theatre in the summer. One of my main reasons for visiting London apart from Madonna's gig that is!
The stage show is also very well done and sticks closer to the book. Thought it was really effective.
John - Buy the DVD and don't watch the tape if it's a minute and a half you've missed from the ending!
"The Woman In Black" is, hands down, the scariest film I have ever seen. Wonderful stuff, first shown at 9.15 on the 24th December 1989 on ITV, and a must-see for anyone who thinks TV never really manages to be frightening.

It was the 1989 version I taped, but I just remembered the other reason I can't bring myself to watch the tape. Ad breaks.
Another reason to buy the DVD then...

Never realised that WIB was on DVD, must get this. I saw it on stage locally about five years ago and it scared the crap out of everybody.
Well put together adaption.

I have never seen the TV version of the Women in Black and to be honest, didn’t even know it existed. I have however seen the stage version, 3 times. I never thought a play could be that scary. Oh and by the way, my aunt is the lighting director and the rocking chair in it, belonged to my Grandmother.

DTS RULES - Murder Rooms is one of the best dramas to come out of the BBC in years in my opinion. It's based on the real life student - tutor relationship between Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Dr. Joseph Bell. The stories resemble strongly the relationship between Holmes and Watson and Dr Joseph Bell is the suspected inspiration for Sherlock Holmes although it has since come to light that Bell made Doyle swear not to release any information through his stories about the real life investigations that Bell had Doyle assist.
Excellent series I thought and a new series is currently being penned.
As for The Woman in Black, it's so good to hear such a positive response from everyone as it's all since forgotten about in my social circle. I really hope that it get's a UK DVD release which it deserves.
BAMSE - That is really cool. Pass on my comments to your Aunt as I really loved the stage show and I thought it was done really brilliantly. Also the Fortune Theatre has a nice Victorian atmosphere to go with it.
Cheers for everyone's response.

Have to second that ... Murder Rooms was fantastic !!! The thing from the last series that stands out for me was the third episode, I think, which was about the 'IRA splinter group blowing up buildings in London'. What was strange about it ??? This episode was aired within two days of the attack on the WTC !!! With all the current PC about terrorism in TV/films I thought this was very strange ??!!??

Worth pointing out that Streets (incredibly) have a good price on Murder Rooms as they have an exclusive box set for £33.99 whereas it’d cost you £48 to buy these 4 discs singly even at Play. Pilot episode is not included so I’m pleased I picked that up seperately in the Tesco VAT free sale for £10. I highly recommend this series.
Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Office'.
I was pleased to read that you enjoy the series so much.
Series One will be released on video on 29 September 2002, priced at £15.99 (ISBN BBCV7299).
There are currently no details with regard to the availability of DVD copies of the series, although I will certainly register you interest.
I have also registered your comment that people would prefer to buy a DVD copy, rather than a video and this will form part of our daily feedback to BBC management.
