The Skull Cowboy is a character that (briefly) appears in The Crow graphic novel.
This character was expanded upon in the movie as another guide for Eric after he came back. He basically set out the rules about The Crow's power. If he did anything that did not relate to avenging his murder, he would feel the pain of these actions.

Seemingly the make up and scenes did not look as well as they had hoped and the scenes were cut. They still exist as mpegs on some of the better Crow tribute sites.

I haven't read the original Graphic Novel, but I gather that in it, Draven is told what he his mission is by the Skull Cowboy.
Now, they did put the Skull Cowboy plot strand in the film, but it was later deleted due to insufficent funds to pull off the SFX required. :(

You know the churchyard finale? Well they filmed a scene before that were teh Cowboy appears to Draven at the Church entrance & tells him that his mission has finished (As he has killed the gang who murdered him) and that he should not meddle in the affairs of others. Draven tells him he has to rescue the girl & the cowboy says that if he messes with the affairs of the others then he will lose his powers. This was the original reason that Draven has no powers in the finale!

You can download the scene & read about the whole subplot on many Crow fansites. Here's (http://www.thecrow.com/skullcowboy.html) a good place to view it.

I believe he was a character in the original comic/script who 'coached' Eric Draven through his rebirth.

I read that whole the-crow-is-the-key-to-Draven's-power was original not the case. Originally after Draven has avenged his murderers he returns to the Skull Cowboy who removes his powers. Then when the kid get kidnapped and Draven goes to the rescue the Skull Cowboy refuses to give him his powers back and thus Draven is mortal at the end.

No doubt this would have been explain on the original SE DVD until the damn producers cocked it all up!

Shingster,

If you have not read the graphic novel, you are in for a treat. You should be able to pick it up fairly easily and quite cheap.

I used to have the link in question bookmarked, but have lost it.

I think it's widely available Joe so you should have no probs finding it, either from high street book/comic stores or e-tailers. You've just got to try & find the cheapest price!
Amazon.co.uk have it for £8.79 excluding delivery here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1852866535/o/qid=1011276572/sr=2-1/ref=sr_bt_1/202-4415697-0691852).
Don't know if that's the cheapest so i suggest you look around. (Have a gander on e-bay as well.)

What chance this "proper" SE seeing the light of day ever?

Actually while we're on the subject, surely R2 is due a quality release of The Crow instead of the current P&S version?

Blimey, just watched that skull cowboy bit. Looked a tad cheesy to me.

I can't find the original article on it but something like the following happened...

Mark Rance of Three Legged Cat was in charge of the supplements, he approached Alex Proyas to do a commentery etc. Who agreed providing he got final say on what was used...

So a commentary get recorded with Proyas, screenwriter David J. Schow, production designer Alex McDowell, cinematographer Dariusz Wolski and art director Simon Murton.
A 90 minute behind the scenes video documentary (filmed by Schow) containing pretty much everything up to the day before the tragic night) as well as a making of featurette.

However the producer Jeff Most wasn't included enough by Proyas. So he kicks up a stink at Miramax who didn't want to **** Most off as he was then made/making Crow 3 and possible a Crow 4. So Miramax gave Most power. :(
So what we get is The Crow DVD SE without the original supplement i.e. Proyas stuff get removed from featurette and behind scenes documentary and the commentary track gets replaced by a **** poor one recorded by Jeff Most et al that doesn't even mention Lee's death or the special effect that resurrected him! /0\
