"Black Hawk Down" director Ridley Scott talked with Latino Review about his film, but also let slip what may be on his plate.

I'd sooner he made the pirate movie.

There hasn't been a good pirate movie since Errol Flyn was at his prime.

First person who says 'Cutthroat Island' gets to walk the plank.

Ever see Swashbuckler with Robert Shaw and James Earl Jones? That's a pirate movie, and while reciting a limerick Shaw rhymes 'virginity' with 'vicinity' (a la Jaws) again. Interesting.

It'd be nice to see an end to the Alien films with the guy who started it :)

but how could they produce a new script with any credibility and relation to the original?
(Bring back Lance Henriksen too while you're there!)

Any remember Roman Polanski’s Mega Flop Pirate’s?

But I’m sure Ridley Scott can make a great Pirate movie
because he did such a great job with Gladiator.

I liked Pirates!! Didn't have an ending as such, but still a fun bash with Walter Matthau....

Does anyone remember "Savage Islands" from the early 80s? It was usually programmed as a double bill with titles like "Dark Crystal" or "Top Secret".... Great little film even with vitamin pirate....

They should make a Monkey Island movie. Can't imagine who could play Guybrush Threepwood though!

Oh, don't they end with each new outing? Added to which, if the film is any good (which would be the only point in the exercise for fans) then Alien 6 would be an absolute certainty! It's a dead horse, becoming a joke, and has been since the mid eighties.

but how could they produce a new script with any credibility and relation to the original?

Credibility went out the window a long time ago, despite what those Fincher revisionists now say.

(Bring back Lance Henriksen too while you're there!)

How do you explain that face of a wrinkled prune, given his Android status? Actually, that question is of relevance to his first appearance, never mind a possible return over 15 years on!

"The Island" from 1980 is a cracking pirate movie as long as you don't make the mistake of seeing it as a serious anthropological tract. I mean, it's got Don Henderson and Dudley Sutton, the latter wearing curlers, going "arr-aarrgh" at every opportunity; David Warner talking total nonsense; Michael Caine battling a giant squid; and Ennio Morricone's marvellously vigourous score. What more could you possibly want ?

"The Crimson Pirate" is even better and crying out for a DVD release.

I kinda like the idea of him directing Star Wars 3. That would be really cool. Regardless of what he says in the interview , I think he'd probably say 'yes' if Lucas asked him.

I'd like a release of Yellowbeard. None more pirate.

Blimey, this threads back from the dead!

That explains it!! I was wondering why no one had mentioned POTC!!!

I'm a little confused. Is this a thread about pirate movies now?

The problem is that both Cameron and Scott have talked about doing something with Alien but thats it. They never push the idea, they just talk about it in interviews. I bet because of that we now have to endure AvP.

Can I say, from a purely selfish perspective, that having just bought my second Alien box set (I now own both the Legacy and Quadrilogy sets) that I would rather they didn't make any more Alien movies. I don't much fancy having to buy yet another set ... ;)

The only Alien films worth having are the original and James Cameron's sequel. I have more interest in seeing AvP than watching Alien 3 or Alien: Ressurection. At least Anderson is commited to delivering an all-out action fest...

Yep. Saw Savage Islands on a double bill with Airplane 2. Remember enjoying it back then and I've tried looking for it on DVD. It only seems to be on U.S. VHS under it's American name 'Nate and Hayes'.

Another one of those nostalgia titles. Might sound like a good idea but actually watching it again is another.

Like Beastmaster for instance. My God what was I like.
