OK, I'm certain that I want the Sony KV32FX65 Widescreen TV - just want to know if any of you have one and if so do you rate it?

Not bothered about sound at all - just picture quality.

I've got one !

Given a good source (DVD or a widescreen digital broadcast) the picture is stunning.

There are a couple is minor geometry issues with my set which I could probably fix via the service menu (easy to access on this set). I just haven't had time to have a proper play with the settings yet. The problems are :

1. Slight curve at the side of the picture. This is definitely fixable using the service menu as I've seen settings for it.
2. Text on the left side of the screen is slightly blurred. Again, fixable I think.
3. The bottom of the picture bends up slightly. As far as I know, this can't be fixed but isn't that big a deal.

In my experience, all CRT TVs will have some geometry problems. When I was looking around this seemed to be the case (one Philips model, the 32PW6515 was appalling in this respect).

I paid £850 for mine (with no stand).

Thanks so much for replying - think this is my mind made up.

I'm sure I actually saw a set of connectors (S-Video etc) on the side but facing backwards so they aren't exposed - left side of the TV (looking from the back).

Ironically I'm also getting it for £849 - you didn't get it from Krish AV by any chance?

The auxiliary S-Video and phono connectors are on a cool slide out panel on the side of the TV.

Got mine from Sound & Vision in Farnworth. They haven't got the best reputation for customer service but they are quite local to me, so I can go round and cause them some grief if I have any problems.

Many of the advertsiers in Home Cinema mag sell it for around £830-850 (Premier Av Centre, Krish, Electro Centre etc etc).

The TV weighs an absolute ton. You will definitely need 2 people to move it.

Good luck with it if you go for one.

I bought mine from Krish,£799,very pleased with it although it is a Euro import.Excellent picture quality and the best 100hz set that I looked at(tried Philips and Hitachi sets as well).I had a very slight curve at the bottom of the screen but a slight adjustment in the engineers menu fixed that.

Great. Thanks very much.

Is the import the same as the UK one? If not, what's the difference?

Cheers.

I'm not really sure why people moan about not getting Uk spec stuff. As long as you get the warranty then I can't see a problem.

I'm pretty sure mine's a euro import (it's the KV32FX65E I think). It came with a mains socket adapter and a non English manual.

Icebun : How do you access the service menu ?
I have similar problems on mine, got an engineer out after a week who said it was in acceptable bounds so would not change anything. Would like to try myself.

Also is anyone elses picture left aligned. Using the THX optimode it shows I loose some of the left of the picture but get all at the right (if that makes sense). Can I centre this ?

Thanks

Malcolm

MR.COATES I think the only difference between the UK and the B model is that the B model is also compatible with Secam as well as PAL and NTSC.
malcolmcleugh ,to enter the service menu turn the TV off with the main power switch, hold down the + and - channel change buttons on the TV and switch on,hold them down until TT appears on the right top of the screen, then press menu button on remote twice and your'e in.

Loads of info about this and similar models here :

Tells you what most of the settings in the service menu are for.

Thanks for that one.

I've ordered the KV32FX65 and should be here on Friday.

My Ferguson is well on its way out now - can't wait for Widescreen heaven......

I got mine a couple of weeks ago from John Lewis. They price matched Krish AV and added their 5 year guarantee, and I would recommend using them for peace of mind as they are very good if something is wrong with the set unlike Krish and Premier AV. I'm very pleased with mine, the geometry is spot on and there are no colour blemishes that are sometimes reported. As mentioned before with a good input signal the picture is stunning, but with poor quality signals the picture can look processed.

Maybe a stupid question but... What's Krish AV?

Ignore my question - guess you mean the chiswick retailer?
