Strange phenomenomenomenomenon this one. But upon hearing Pink Floyd's 'Money' on Radio 2 yesterday, it appeared to me that somehow it is ok for records deemed 'classics' to appear on radio despite containing language that wouldn't be heard on tv before 9pm.
I present to the jury '********' in the above mentioned record. We also have Elvis's classic 'Oliver's Army' which contains the unchallenged '******' and Pearl Jam's 'Jeremy' which is played unedited on Virgin/Classic rock 24/7
Any other glaring omissions? Why should said songs be allowed, but RATM's Bombtrack isn't?
Interesting? Possibly. Discuss.

I seem to remember Mark Goodier playing the unedited version of Killing In The Name on the Radio 1 chart.
Oops.
I always thought peter gabriels games without frontiers contained some swearing and a racist word- just checked , turns out I was wrong after all these years. It really does sound bad tho. EDIT- or mebbe it does after all, Im finding different lyrics of it on the web??
Thats eminen record with d-12 used to have the term 'cocksuck' in it until someone realised, now all versions on the radio are edited.
Chumbawumba has ****** the night away in it..it sounds like that anyway.

a Beautiful South song had the line "will I *****" in it repeatedly.

The double-standards of Top of the Pops annoyed me when they used to play George Michael's Fastlove unedited, but anyone else that wasn't George Michael got censored.

He changed the lyrics for the single version of the song.

Thought of another. 'Slight Return' by the Bluetones. Check the refrain just before the chorus kicks in for the final time - you can hear someone say 'keep the ****** going' in the background.
Does 'Living For the Weekend' by Hard-Fi get edited?
How about 'Firestarter' by Prodigy?
Olivers Army has always been played since it was released.
"Only takes one itchy trigger,
One more widow one less white ******"
has never caused a huge outcry anywhere.

I know - it was mentioned in the first post :suspect: :D
Maybe Jeremy doesn't contain swearing - doesn't Eddie Chedder sing 'he was just a stupid little ****' or something? Not a Pearl Jam fan at all, so could be wrong.

In recent years the lady in the Strangler's Peaches seems to have finally given up struggling with her bikini and found her clitoris...
I know - it was mentioned in the first post :suspect: :D
I know.
I was commenting that's there's never been a problem with it rather than only getting played now due to it's "classic" status mentioned in the first post.
I know it's not a 100% swear word but that Meredith Brookes song Bitch, that used to get played during daytime radio saying Bitch all the time yet some songs when mentioning bitch had it blanked out.
Always listen out for Alanis Morisette in case they play the unedited version of 'You oughta know'. "Are you thinking of me when you **** her?"
Seemed a harmless little ****

Recall tommy Vance playing this unedited either on the Friday Rock Show or the chart with a pause after the song finished, then he said, "...that was the album version." No apology in those days. :D
A lot of stations accidentally play the album version of "Creep" by Radiohead as well - always makes me smile
"Longview" by Green Day I have heard on more than one occasion too

That stupid Beautiful South song Dont Marry Her has been played uncut numerous times on 2FM over here.
I thought that was Bruno Brooks. Either way it lead to a suspension for the person involved.
I thought it was Bruno that played the unedited version of Closer by NIN.
I remember being in Spain when that god awful song by James Blunt was out. We were on the coach going from the airport to the hotel and it came on the radio, all the kids and their parents were singing along and there was the line "I was ******* high" That shut them all up pretty quickly. I guess that don't bother editing songs that aren't in their native language.

Was definitely Bruno, I remember listening to it. Hilarious.

On 'Life' that we have on at work, they play Lily Allen's 'Smile' and leave in the ******* line - "Cos you were ******* that girl next door"

I remember being in Spain when that god awful song by James Blunt was out.
whoa there! ... you're going to have to be a bit more specific there; he's had a few singles you know ...
it always confuses me as to why they blank out the word "ass" nowadays, and not in every song or for every context ...
Always listen out for Alanis Morisette in case they play the unedited version of 'You oughta know'. "Are you thinking of me when you **** her?"
They always seem to play that version on Red Dragon down here in sunny Wales.
I remember when Simon Mayo played the unedited version of Scooby Snacks by Fun Lovin' Criminals. Took him 2 minutes to realise
The Who - Who are you - has one or two f words that aren't always easy to spot.. I am sure the single version was the same.
EMF "Unbelievable" with the sampled "What The ****, What the **** was that?"
I thought it was Bruno that played the unedited version of Closer by NIN.
I heard the intro start for that and nearly wet myself when I realised they were playing it in full.
I don't remember him even commenting, let alone apologising. It was during the chart rundown on a sunday night as well. "I want to **** you like an animal" being sung by all the little kids huddled around the radio :D
One that you hear quite a lot unedited is Can't Stand Me Now by the Libertines:
"cornered the boy kicked out at the world, the world kicked back
alot ******' harder..."
He does mumble it a bit, but it's pretty obvious to my ears.

I never listen to pop radio, so can't comment. But I'm amazed at the language on Radio 4 these days. The regular comedy slot at 6.30pm is routinely littered with words that would not get through on these forums, and are usually totally gratuitous, and totally inappropriate for that time slot.
I really should write an Angry from Tunbridge Wells letter.

Jo Wiley played the Sex Pistols' "Bodies" on an early evening show without blinking a few years back. You got the impression she'd never actually heard it before.
We were in Holland a couple of years ago and we can still bring a smile to each other's faces by quoting the radio DJs we heard half-a-dozen times a day:
"Das Eamon ... mit '**** It'."

Come to think of it, on her daily show she played a rap song two or three years ago which was littered with the MF and N words! She cut it short when she realised and blamed a technical problem. wish I could remember what it was but Im not into rap, it may have been tupac.

Radio one played Planet of Sound by Pixies a few times back in the Bruno Bookes top 40 days before twiging it dropped the f bomb. (It was only in the charts for two weeks they might have kept playing it...)
Can't believe this used to get daytime airplay on R1
Ice Cube - It Was a Good Day
It's ironic, I had the brew she had the chronic
The Lakers beat the Supersonics
I felt on the big fat fanny
Pulled out the jammy, and killed the punanny
And my d!ck runs deep so deep so deep
put her a$$ to sleep
Woke her up around one
she didn't hesitate, to call Ice Cube the top gun
Why do radio station's even have unedited versions of songs at the ready. Surely if they only have radio friendly versions in the studio there can be no mistakes?

Pretty sure the Radio Edit of 'Bomfunk MCs - Freestyler' contained the f-bomb that the full track conains, it goes by pretty quickly but I've never heard a version without it...
Yeah, we come scandalous so who tha ****
Is alice, is she from buckinham palace?
I still can't believe they got away with the Dogtanien theme tune on children's TV

One for all and all for one
Muskehounds are always ready.
One for all and all for one
Helping everybody
One for all and all for one
It's a pretty story
Sharing everything with fun
That's the way to be.
One for all and all for one
Muskehounds are always steady.
One for all and all for one
Helping everybody
One for all and all for one
Can sound pretty corny
If you got a problem chum
Think how it could be!
La-la-la la-la-la
They cross their hearts and pray
La-la-la la-la-la
They cross their swords night and day
La-la-la la-la-la
They drink their beer and swear they're faithful to their King.
La-la-la la-la-la
No matter what you say
La-la-la la-la-la
They're never far away
La-la-la la-la-la
They're always ready to fight - or to sing.

They have a beer and swear they're faithful to their King.
La-la-la la-la-la
They will defend you, save you
La-la-la la-la-la
They'll always come to rescue
La-la-la la-la-la
And on their horses they fight - or they sing!

I've never been able to make the word out tbh.

Sorry, it was just a stupid joke about the fact that 'Kids are pretty corny' sounds more like 'kids are feeling horny' during the credits.

Greased Lightening is seething cess pool of profanity and filth - allusions to defecation, breasts and "chicks creaming" abound.

Sunday morning just gone, I woke up to BBC 6Music playing Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson with all the s-words and f-words intact and quite audible. The DJ made no reference to it, not sure how they get away with it!
I think 6Music don't treat their audience like a bunch of kids. I've heard plenty of songs with the s-word played without comment.
I'd be shocked if anyone listening would complain to be honest.
Also, "This is the planet of sound, this ain't no ******* around" is pretty clear to my ears in Planet of Sound...just had another listen to confirm :D . Mind you - I guess Bruno Brooks was in the AM days of Radio One, so it was probably pretty muffled back then.
Also, nobody listens to it.
Chuwumbawamba Tub Thumpin'
Surely that lyric is "******* the night away", did they just drop the 'p' for the radio version or what?
Happy Talking by Captain Sensible, apparently, recorded while very drunk.

I was thinking the same thing! :D What a godawful song
Damien Rice - Rootless tree got played in full on Zane Lowe's (OT but those that bloke ever shut up?) which he had to apologize for. The radio edit sounds exactly the same though.

It's always fun when the BBC are covering festivals live, like Glastonbury, or one-offs like Live 8. You just know some of the bands are going to swear, either in the songs of by simply yelling swearwords between songs.
