strainge problem this and i hope someone here can help me
i hire a lot of region 1 dvd's from my local video shop and i usualy transfer them to vhs so that i can watch them at a later date but all i get with the dansia is a black and white picture if i record any region 1 dvd's if i try to do this with any region 2 i get a colour picture??? i have the dvd wired through my video i,e scart from the dvd to the video scart from the video to the tv and i get a perfect colour picture that way wether it is playing a region 1 or a region 2 disk i no it is not the video,s fault as it worked perfect with my last dvd player (smart 2000) does any one no of any options that need to be either turned on or off to get this to record in colour or can this dvd just not let you record any region 1 films?????????

hhhhhhmmmmmm

How long before this thread gets closed?

I think it's because your video recorder will not accept an NTSC signal it needs to be set to PAL.

Isn't the whole point of DVD to get the best pic/sound possible to enhance your viewing pleasure? Recording DVD to VHS seems a step backwards.

I would also like to point out that despite the bargains available elsewhere in these forums DVD's on average are around £17.00 maybe renting those you do not want to buy or trading those you own and are sick off would be a better option and help to reduce the price of new DVD's in the future.;)

On the flip I have no issue with 'backing up' you favorite DVD's to VHS if you own them and don't offer them for sale or hire.

Just a thought and personal view.

You can set the Dansai to output PAL50 from Region 1 DVDs.
This will give you a colour picture.

Its in the set-up menu (the options are auto/pal/ntsc). Set it to pal and there should be no problems.
Apart from the crappy quality of VHS when compared to DVD :D
