Kluivert on trial at Sheffield Wednesday, so what other players have fallen from grace when they should be still be in their prime?

Fowler is the first name to spring to mind, Owen another. (Though with Owen I think he still has it in him).
Juninho's at Hull now isn't he?

Crikey, he's only 31. seems like he has been around forever. Must have a couple of good years left in him.
He was a good young player with huge potential a decade ago, certainly never anywhere near being a great player.
Yeah, only 20 when he scored against England in Euro 1996 and in the European Cup Final

Lee Sharpe plummetted down the ladder quickly.

I'll always remember him for the United fans singing you should have signed for a big club during the Barcelona CL group game in 98/99. As I recall he only wanted to play for Arsenal if he were to play in England is what he said at that time - never mentioned Wednesday tbh

"kluivert Kluivert, what's the score" :)
shame they had to go and pull it back from 2-0
he couldn't cut it at the barcodes, so the chances of a top team being in for him are now long gone. Probably still too good for the 'championship' though

Is he still sponsored by Ginsters?
A sad demise for a fantastic player

Started at the back end of his Barca career and then he had the ultimate career killer move - Newcastle

Big Norm got a career ending injury though so had to retire...he's now a physio so hardly fair to say he had a 'fall from grace'!:nono:

If he can stay injury free and gets a decent run of games then I think he'll score a good amount for you next season.

Players who get older have two choices, they can retire or go down the leagues.
I think the saddest ones are the players that keep going down the leagues because they need the money, Gazza springs to mind.
Kluivert is like a lot of players such as Michael Owen, they developed younger than most, they look superb when they're 18 and everyone thinks, "wow, just think what they'll be like when they're 26 at the top of their game!"
They get to 26 and they never lived up to their promise, they leave their top club and move steadily downwards (usually via Newcastle United) with lesser clubs prepared to take a chance on the signing of a big name to sell a few shirts. Eventually they just retire or move steadily down the leagues, usually ending up in Turkey or Qatar.
Rather sad really
R
David Weatherall from Leeds is still playing for Bradford, 4 divisions lower as they are now in league 2.
I've also seen Paul Warhurst and Mark Hately down there though much past their prime

Wetherall is 36 though, playing out the twilight of his career, Kluivert has only just turned 31 ...

We had him at Southend, he couldnt get into shape.
Collymore's another one
Rebrov. Chadwick.
Get out. Chadwick is playing for the mighty Canaries :)
Diego Tristan (31) - Just joined Livorno in Seria A on a one year contract after failing to score whilst at Mallorca last season (he was immense in 2001/2002, scoring 32 goals in all competitions!).
Antonio Cassano also springs to mind as well.

Suprised no Leeds fans have mentioned Tomas Brolin!
Went from one of the stars for Sweden in the '92 & '94 International tournaments to looking like one of the tubby fat kids thats eaten all the sweets.
£4.5 million and he played 25 games in 18 months scoring a whopping 4 goals.

i dont thnk hes gone **** hes just one of those players who needs a nerturing/daddy figure and he got no support at Real.........
He has the skills its just he has ****** alot of people off so a big club wont come in for him now but if he gets 20-+ seria goals at a middle club watch him move back to a top 4 seria a team in 2/3 years.

Jardel.
Rangers tried to sign him in 1996 and he was shown round the place and looked se to sign but a work permit problem forced him to move to Porto where he was immense scoring 130 goals in 125 apperances. He then had a couple of moves to Galatasary and Sporting Lisbon where he again scored more goals than apperances before moves to Anacona, Bolton, Newells Old Boys, Alaves, Goias, Beira Mar then finally Famagusta in the space of 5 years with only a handful of apperances and even less goals at each club.

Darren Anderton - Currently playing for Bournemouth. He was utter garbage at Wolves too.
Paul Merson - Went from Villa to Walsall to Tamworth.
Neil Lennon - Now at Nottigham Forest in League 1.
Whoever suggested Paul Ince was right as well. He turned into an utter cock-ring in his last couple of seasons at Wolves, both on and off the field.
We've not got Juninho....
Twas a publicity stunt by our new Chairman :D

Oh and Kluivert can be struck off as (surprise, surprise) he's 'flattered' but not interested in a trial at Wednesday!

Hey, it's a thread where people are lamenting that once great players are playing their way down the leagues :)
Socrates (and Zico/Eder, etc) was a part of the brazil team I grew up watching as a kid at world cups. I'd watch them if they played for Blythe Spartans :D

Chick Nick.
Had 2 very good spells at Celtic. 1 okay spell at Arsenal (replaced by Perry Groves the following season. ) and played not badly for Aberdeen.
Ended up finishing his playing career at Clyde and is now a not-so-good Sky TV pundit.

Then he turns up at Milan i was like wtf :( but he has been much better then i expected he would be since christmas hes lost weight and still has that touch........
I think he will be impressive for milan this season espically he can play in the champions league now

I think that he's written off far too easily. Whilst you may have laughed at how "crap" he was at Real Madrid his goal scoring record there isn't to be sniffed at. AC Milan have got an absolute bargain and I hope he does well this season.

Paul Merson - Went from Villa to Walsall to Tamworth.
Neil Lennon - Now at Nottigham Forest in League 1.
I don't really think it is fair to count these players since they played at a high level until their mid-30's and then moved down as they are no longer able to compete at the highest level due to their age.
It's not like Stan Collymore who squandered his talent
R
Just watching the Emirates cup and here's a player who disappeared, Gallardo, he was going to be the next 'Maradona'
Gallardo has had alot of personal issues I think. Plus he's played alot of his football in Argentina, where he is a legend. But yea, like alot of young Argies, he was one of a long line of 'new maradona's' that didn't work out.
