It looks like genre icon Ridley Scott (HANNIBAL, ALIEN) is returning to perhaps his greatest triumph, BLADE RUNNER, and reediting it into a final director’s cut for the special edition DVD release later this year.

"What we're doing is re-mixing digitally and reprinting off the original negative," Scott told SciFi Wire while chatting up BLACK HAWK DOWN. "So we'll have a new version. It won't be dramatically different, but it will be as beautiful as it should be. Blade Runner was a beautiful-looking film, and what most of this generation has seen are bad tapes. Thank God for DVD, because DVD at least resurrects the thing to the original sound and picture quality. I'd love people to be able to see it big, and that's what I'm doing."

When asked about recent quotes about he and ALIEN star Sigourney Weaver reuniting for a fifth ALIEN film, he again affirmed he’s interested. "Oh yeah," he said. "I would do it."

In his commentary track on Alien, he mentions that he like to do a new film where they go to the alien home world to see what happened. That would be cool. :)

According to darkhorizons Ridley Scott confirmed during an Atlanta radio interview yesterday that the 3-disc boxed set special edition of his early 80's sci-fi classic "Blade Runner" will hit Q4 2002. Included are several deleted scenes and extras, whilst the set "may possibly" include several versions of the film. New scenes and effects are expected to be added to the release as well.

Surely Harrison Ford will drop his 20 year grudge and want to contribute to this release?

1977 - 1984 have to be his best ever years for movies.

Has a done a commentary for any DVD yet? What lies Beneath?
