I purchased a DVD lens cleaner a couple of months back to cure skipping on my Sammy 709 (which it did very successfully). It looks just like a CD/DVD which you just place in your player. But underneath the disc are 5 (I think it was) little pieces of something sticking out which cleans the lens somehow. Mine consisted of a 5 minute movie containing robots and a Daffidil(!)

Well worth a purchase in my book though

I never clean my discs as I have found that any skipping can be cured by using the lens cleaner. To be honest I can't be arsed cleaning each of my discs with proper fluid. If I see a big fingerprint then I just wipe it off with a cloth.

Are CD lens cleaners the same as DVD ones and will they do the same job?

Thanks

I have only a cd lens cleaner for my dvd player and works fine. The dvd player has all in one focus lens and works just like a dvd lens cleaner without the graphics.

I bought a DVD/CD disc cleaner (A round thing you put the disc in, add some liquid and give it a spin.) from Game recently, but noticed that the cleaner said it contained alcohol. In my player manual it says never to use thinners or evaporating type products or cleaners on dvds and had the word alcohol in big letters crossed out. I phoned Game HQ about this and they said not to risk it and get a refund.

Don't know if that helps, but I might now get hold of one of those lens cleaners.
