Excellent - I'm almost joyous!

Due for release the day after I come back from my holiday in Canada - so something worth coming home for.

Does anyone know whether the R2 Amelie is being shipped with an English soundtrack as well as a French one, or do you think Play has just listed what they 'expect' to see on the disc?

(and if we don't get a 2:35:1 transfer, well, that just a crime against humanity!)

Why the hell would you want an English soundtrack?
Do you want your film ruined by out-of-sync sound and video? Subtitles are the way to go. :)

Fantastic news! Hope that they are planning to include a lot of good special features....

Unfortunately, a price tag of £14.99 at Play tends to suggest that it will be a single disk... but let's hope not - what we want is the French 2-disk with English subs! Don't we!!

And you would probably miss some of the subtleties in the sound, such as:

When the montage letter is read, and you hear the background noise changing as the words that were written in different places are read

Just throwing this in - I have no facts to base this on - but maybe people with dyslexia and reading difficulties need English Dubbing?

Have placed my order - here's hoping it turns out to be the 2-disc French edition but with English subtitles. :)

I was expecting this sort of reaction about the English dub.

I'm hoping for an additional English dub so I can WATCH the film as in the pictures and cinematography, without having to constantly refer to the subtitles. I know dubs are crap but they can be useful. Surely having an English dub is better than not having one?

I saw Amelie 3 times at the cinema but I still havn't truly WATCHED it.

English dubs should be outlawed period. I feel that if you're truly interested in the movie you'll make the effort to read the subtitles. It doesn't take much practice to make reading them effortless without the sense of missing much of anything. If it's a choice between seeing the movie with subtitles or nothing at all, I know which choice I'd make.

I actually find watching a film with a dub is far more distracting than subtitles. With a dub, there is the obvious lip-sync problem, but what I find even more distracting is the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) loss of ambience that is one of the key elements to a film's appeal.

If the film is strong enough, I tend not to even notice the sub-titles - they do not intrude on my viewing experience at all.

regards, Tim...

PS. Anime is another story altogether as lip-sync and ambience become less of an issue - however, I personally refuse to use the dub version.

I also refuse to watch dubbed versions of any movies, be it Asian action movies or French comedies - thank god for DVD and multiple soundtrack options! :)

You may find out that the £14.99 version does turn out to be a 2-disk version....

Play did that with Crimson Rivers and then re-priced it later on at £17.99....

Heres hoping :)

Looks like I'll have to place an order then.

They have just made the same mistake with American Werewolf. Generally they honour mis-prices (provided its only a couple of pounds) - so get your order in, you can always cancel it later.

Just when I told the wife I would cut back on my dvd buying they go and bring out another must buy film. French soundtrack with English subs will do me.
