You're right...just checked my email and the team is activated :)
The hattrick site is down for maintainance until 2pm though :(

Hellraisers FC (959237)
Just had a look at your team, you seem to have a couple of good players but alot of crap! Before you go spending all your money at once...it's what I did :(
You should have a quick read around some begginers guides.
The main thing they will suggest is that you buy a decent coach!
edwinrgarland
17-07-2007, 11:36
I've been playing hattrick for a few seasons now.
for any beginners here are my tips.
The most important thing is read the rules and do the tutorial tasks.
Dont buy expensive players, buy players that are a bit better than what you have and train them.
As soon as you can get a better coach
Work on an area of your team and improve that by training. I jsut couldnt score in my first season. After i was relegated I bought some young strikers and just trained scoring and now they are pretty good.
Use the transfer market as way of making money.
Also try and upgrade your stadium, just in small steps.

I've been playing hattrick for a few seasons now.
Are you going to join this aswell mate? Friendly league?
Steve Jackson
17-07-2007, 12:06
He's already in. :)
Regarding the league, do people want to play each other twice, home and away, or just once on a neutral ground? As there isn't a great deal of interest right now I was thinking of maybe one match so that we can get a hopefully more popular second season on the go quite soon.
Also, should we have a handicap system for matches with teams from different levels of one goal awarded to the weaker team for each level they are below the stronger one? I hope that makes sense.
Mick Davies
17-07-2007, 12:43
Not sure how the handicaps would work. What do you mean by each level?
Didn't notice he was in mind :P
Steve Jackson
17-07-2007, 13:08
I'm in league level VII, if I played against someone in level V I would be given a two goal start. Or if that sounds too much, one goal for every two levels difference maybe?
Mick Davies
17-07-2007, 13:23
Nah 2 goals for a league sounds okay I think.
Thanks for the tips folks
Played my 1st game last night...got beat 4-0 :( No suprise really considering the team I have. Time to look for new players I think.
Mick Davies
18-07-2007, 10:35
Funny that I won my match last night 4-0.
I worked on the defence then my midfield then my attack and I now seem to be able to compete slightly ;)

I won my cup game so if we start the league next week I can't play due to still being in the cup.

I'm suprised theres not much interest in this considering there are about 1million HT players.

24-07-2007, 11:16
Is anyone still interested in this?
Also we could even have a DVDF youth league as well?
I'll prob loose my cup game tomorrow so I should be able to arrange a friendly next week.
Mick Davies
24-07-2007, 12:47
I will more than likely lose mine, Im against much better opposition!
edwinrgarland
25-07-2007, 10:21
well thats me well and truly out of the cup.
Its ht and im down 5-0
So im free for matches next week.
I've got a new team Harlan's World United (955857), but I have no idea what I'm doing. Managed to score a goal in my first match though :)
I think I've challenged Steve to a friendly.

25-07-2007, 12:59
I'm having a nightmare start to the season. After winning 6-1 in the cup last week ive lost my last two games 8-0 and 9-0
Hopefully i can get my season back on track this weekend and back to winning ways or at least score a goal
Mick Davies
25-07-2007, 14:14
I lost my cup game 6-1 but gave my keeper a rest as I knew I wasn't going to win it. But happy I grabbed a goal.

You have indeed, although I'm not sure whether or not I'll be able to accept as hopefully we can start the actual league now that we're all out of the cup. I assume you're up for the league yourself? I've added your team to the list in the first post anyway.
Final call for teams to join the league. I'll try and have the fixtures all sorted for Friday or Saturday so anyone else interested needs reply here as soon as possible.
Steve Jackson
25-07-2007, 18:21
Also we could even have a DVDF youth league as well?Sounds good. If this works well enough then I'm happy to give a youth league a go too.

Have you got your team yet? If so, please reply back with your team details as soon as possible and I'll sort the fixtures out for tomorrow.
EDIT: Apologies, but I've had a really manic day and haven't had chance to sort the fixtures. Will everyone be ok with the first matches taking place a week on Tuesday instead? It'll give gjkendall a further chance to join in too.

Oooops!
Steve Jackson
05-08-2007, 09:44
Ok, I've downloaded a league spreadsheet from the internet and used it so choose all the fixtures for us. No response from gjkendall so it's just five of us for season one. We are playing each other twice, home and away.
The first games for this Tuesday 5th August are as follows (home team first obviously):
Gartly City (67766) vs Harlan's World United (955857)
Hellraisers FC (959237) vs New Cannock Patriots (959163)
Mick Davies, the way the spreadsheet has done it, with having an odd number of teams, your Peterborough Rovers don't have a match until the 28th August I'm afraid. The spreadsheet also convienently, and without any tinkering from me, has my team out of action for the same fortnight that I'm in Minorca. I'll add all the season's fixtures later on.
MrSpeed I've sent you a challenge, so it's just up to you to accept and the other two to arrange their match now and and reply here with the match ID numbers and scores.
I've accepted the friendly from Gartly.
Sorry, not been online too much lately. Will try and sort this out :)

Gartly City - Harlan's World United 6 - 0

I dont think the scorline was fair.
you didnt deserve to get beat 6-0 and you should have scored at least once.
Great start by my team. When do you see the training paying off?
edwinrgarland
08-08-2007, 11:54
you dont get instant results in hattrick.
When I first started playing hattrick it took me about 7-8 weeks before i was able to score a goal and to get the training to produce any sort of effect on the pitch.
Stick in with it and after a while you will start to see the results.
Just remember the first few weeks is a learning process.
Yeah I know it will take time. I've scored goals already, just not as many as the opposition ;)
Mick Davies
08-08-2007, 14:30
Who's gets my blood next week?
Steve Jackson
09-08-2007, 17:17
Ok, I was a little late in posting the fixtures and in turn MrSpeed must have been too late to accept my challenge and so our match didn't take place. I've rearranged the fixtures list accordingly so here is a full list of matches for the season:
http://stejay.adsl24.co.uk/images/fixtures.jpg
Wooglie, I've just issued you a challenge for our match.
And here, with no suprises with only one game played, is the current league table:
http://stejay.adsl24.co.uk/images/table.jpg
I'm the only one in the league to concede goals :) Shouldn't I get a one goal lead cause I'm a league below Gartly?
Accepted your friendly.

I did mention a handicap system previously, is it something everyone is in agreement with?

Good point and I agree with the handicap system but to play devils advocate here I'm in the lowest league in Scotland.
How many league levels are there in England?
In Scotland there are five.

Maybe a better way would be on how long you have played hattrick rather than what division you are in.
You could have it so that if you have played less than 3 months you arnt penalised and then for every three months you have played hattrick you get penalised a goal.
Steve Jackson
10-08-2007, 19:30

Aah hattrick. It was good a couple of years ago, but the collapse in the economy has turned into a farce.
Any game that has people sucking up to ville_man should be banned.
Give Sokker a try when you inevitably get bored of it.
Footstar is another game with a twist that you may enjoy.

Ok, I haven't had time to correct the table (stupid spreadsheet!) and I'm off early tomorrow for two weeks in the sun so it'll have to wait I'm afraid. I've arranged my match for this coming Tuesday and if you guys could stick to the other fixtures as posted above and post the results while I'm away then I'll update everything properly when I get back. Cheers.

Shock win there for my team against Zath!
Zath Rovers - Peterborough Rovers 1 - 3
Will accept challenge in a bit :D
Yay first league win :D and first goals as well. That'll put a chink in my -7 goal difference.
MatchID: 140809621 2-0 to Harlan's.
I forgot to change my 2 injured players :( ....Well that's the best excuse I can think of :D
Does anyone know the best way to make money? I've just realised I'm 60K in debt. I've had to remove my youth squad investment just to break even :brickwall I have a few of my worse players on transfer list, but I doubt anyone will buy them.
I've challenged Zath for next week.
Apparently one of the best ways of raising cash is to bring in some young midfielders and then train playmaking to sell them on after they level up a bit. I've not really done that myself, just been more concerned with improving my team as needed.
I've collected some info here that might be handy to new players of Hattrick:
http://www.zath.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25
Match Id: 141007530 Harlan's World United 0 - Zath Rovers 1. I seem to be letting in less, but my keeper is now injured for three weeks :(
Good close game Wooglie, sorry about the injury!

Ok, seems that the Gartly City vs Peterborough Rovers game didn't take place last week so we'll have to add that on to the end of the season.
Last week's only result then:
Harlan's World United (955857) - 0 1 - Zath Rovers (61967) - Match ID: 141007530
Matches that are due to take place this evening:
New Cannock Patriots (959163) vs Hellraisers FC (959237)
Gartly City (67766) vs Zath Rovers (61967)
Harlan's World United (955857) vs Peterborough Rovers (956030) Match ID: 141177402

I won my match last night!
Harlan's World United - Peterborough Rovers 1 - 4
That should keep me top of the table! :)
I did pick up a short term injury to one of my GKs though :(
Do I win a prize for the worst goal difference? :)
I've challenged Gartly City for next week.
I've challenged New Cannock Patriots for next week.
Steve Jackson
09-09-2007, 09:37
I've challenged New Cannock Patriots for next week.Accepted.
Looks like only one scheduled match from three took place last week then:
Harlan's World United (955857) - 1 4 - Peterborough Rovers (956030)
Match ID: 141177402
So the following will have to be rescheduled for a later date:
New Cannock Patriots (959163) vs Hellraisers FC (959237)
Gartly City (67766) vs Zath Rovers (61967)
This Tuesday's matches:
Harlan's World United (955857) vs Gartly City (67766)
Hellraisers FC (959237) vs Peterborough Rovers (956030)
New Cannock Patriots (959163) vs Zath Rovers (61967)
The current table:

It seems a bit unfair as everyone else's team are getting better (I admit only slightly) while I seem to be playing all my games :(
Don't worry Wooglie, my team is not getting better either. I've just hired a goalkeeping coach in the hope that it will stop me leaking goals!!
Steve Jackson
09-09-2007, 12:21
Sorry. I downloaded a football league spreadsheet which decided all the fixtures, but you do have a point. The annoying thing about the spreadsheet is it turns out the bloody thing doesn't even work properly anyway and I have to piddle about updating the league table myself.
I'll try and juggle the fixtures around myself so that you don't have to play for a couple of weeks while we catch up.
Can anyone recommend a better spreadsheet for future seasons, or even better an online league management system that we can all access?

Sorry, sorry, sorry guys. I've really been pushed for time lately and I haven't been able to get around to sorting this whole league stuff out properly.
Anyway, match results from last week:
New Cannock Patriots 0 - 3 Zath Rovers
Harlan's World United 0 - 6 Gartly City
And the latest league table:

Ok, I suck at keeping all this up to date. Many apologies. I'm going to look into using a web service such as htcups.org if we have a second season.

Yes, sorry all. The stupid spreadsheet I downloaded for this has messed up again and isn't updating properly so I need to piddle about and do it all manually and I've been so busy again with other stuff that I simply haven't gotten around to it. With all the unbalanced fixtures the spreadsheet through up too, I really wish I hadn't used the bloody thing now.
I will get something sorted shortly, hopefully this week, and if I haven't put everyone off with the way this has gone, we'll use something like www.htcups.org for the next season.
