I think you make some of those bands up to catch us out.
 I'd have made better names than some of those!!
My favourite of the year so far is the debut self titled album from Maia Hirasawa.
You actually bought 81 albums? Jesus. Okay here are my albums bought this year and released this year:
1 - This Is My Ship - Dartz!
2 - Excellent Italian Greyhound - Shellac
3 - Friend Opportunity - Deerhoof
4 - Sex Change - Trans Am
5 - Wincing the Night Away - The Shins
6 - Mirrored - Battles
7 - Grinderman - Grinderman
8 - 23 - Blonde Redhead
9 - Reformation Post-TLC - The Fall
10 - Marnie Stern - In Defence of the Broken Arm
11 - A second, or ten years later - The Sailplanes
12 - Our Earthly Pleasures - Maximo Park
13 - Icky Thump - The White Stripes
14 - A Weekend In the City - Bloc Party
The others I bought were all released before this year.
Glad to see someone else enjoying the stunning Shellac effort.
Glad to see someone else enjoying the stunning Shellac effort.
I thought when I did a quick search of Dartz! once you were the only person who had listed them anywhere. Did you not pick up the album? It's seriously up there with Q and Not U's stunning "No Kill No Beep Beep". Get it.
As to Excellent Italian Greyhound, the Peel session from 2004 deaden the impact slightly and Genuine Lulabelle is just...well...hmm. but yeah, it's probably their strongest since at Action Park, certianly a lift after most of the dirge that infect 1000 Hurts.
I had the Dartz! singles, will pickup the LP, they drifted off my radar as been listening to a lot of drone, dubstep, noise and electronica recently.

Blimey, I'm a CD Times writer and I haven't heard that many albums this year, and my tastes are going to seem really commercial compared to Adge's list...
Anyway, albums that have impressed me so far this year: Husky Rescue - Ghost is Not Real (prob my favourite, actually), Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Groove Armada, Digitalism...
I have the Bjork album, but haven't had the chance to get stuck into it. Am also still forming an opinion on UNKLE and The Chemical Brothers, and will probably be buying The White Stripes, Simian Mobile Disco and possibly Justice. I should really try to hear The Klaxons and QOTSA records too.
For me since John Peel died my quest to hear something different and something I haven't heard before has grown and grown. I used to be able to be lazy and tune in to Peel to hear something great, now I have to do a lot the legwork myself.
It's so difficult to hear anything that is genuinely alternative and exciting, but I read and listen to as much as I can to try and find those gems. I am always interested to hear what everyone else has been listening to (on a forum that I rate the opinion of the other posters highly), hence this thread. But also to hopefully shine a light upon some artists or music that others may have missed and would really enjoy.
So far this year:
Apples in Stereo-New Mechanical Wonder
Fountains of Wayne-Traffic and Weather
Kings of Leon-Because of the Times
Tiny Dancers-Free School Milk
Candie Payne-Wish I Could Have Loved You More
Maximo Park-Our Earthly Pleasures
Manic Street Preachers-Send Away The Tigers
Arcade Fire-Neon Bible
Field Music-Tones of Towns( I think that is this year)

Didn't the Cold War Kids LP come out last year? I'm surprised you missed The Cribs off Adge. I think their new one is brilliant and one track on it 'Our Bovine Public' is my favourite song of the year so far.

A list for the whole year will take a while but had a couple of decent purchases arrive this morning:
Various Artists - Vomit. This is a Proboscus compilation and is available cheap (should pick it up for under £7) with breakcore nonsence from the likes of ****mat, Ladyscraper, Toecutter, Judith Priest, DJ Floorclearer etc. Highlights are Ladyscraper's track "chunderchunkmaster" and Floorclearer's "I **** on the chest of fun"
Kyler - Pur Cosy Tales. This came out last year so it's a cheat but only just picked it up. It's a great album from Henry ****mat under a different moniker, much less abrasive almost vering into drone/ambient territory. There's little order to the tracks and many cut off abruptly just as they get started but a very interesting and mixed album and it was dirt cheap too. It'll tide me over nicely until the new proper ****mat album in August
TWOCSINAK & DJ SARAH WILSON - Jesus Is A Brave Little Toaster Volume 1. Utterly bonkers, will need some time with this one but if it's as good as he was live then it should be a treat
The National - Boxer. I'm stunned this hasn't made anyone's list yet. Best LP of the year so far for me by a mile.

In no particular order, records I have enjoyed this year, and will make up my top 10 (possibly) come December:
LCD Soundsystem - 'Sound of Silver'
White Stripes - 'Icky Thump'
Dan Deacon - 'Spiderman of the Rings'
Modest Mouse - 'We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank'
Twilight Sad - 'Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters'
The Hold Steady - 'Boys and Girls in America'
Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Battles - 'Mirrored'
The Field - 'From Here we go Sublime'
Gui Boratto - 'Chromophobia'
Art Brut - 'It's a bit Complicated'
Frog Eyes - 'Tears of the Valedictorian'
Dinosaur Jr - 'Beyond'
Wilco - 'Sky Blue Sky'
All brilliant.

I've been waiting for mine to arrive for ages...
Anyway, here is a player thingy for some of the music from that list that is on itunes.

CWK was last year US this year UK, and the Cribs is at No.35, it's quite patchy IMHO, but their best so far.

Got to be time for another list as we did this for Q1.
Anyway here's mine in order of greatness, albums purchased & released thus far this year:
1 Rushup Edge - The Tuss
...........
81 A Weekend In The City - Bloc Party
What are yours? What gems have I missed?
Have you seriously bought 81 albums this year?! When on earth do you get to listen to them all?! I find most things take a good few listens to get into, usually not until the third listen that I can decide if I really like it and will keep with it or just won't bother!

I don't know about Adge but I can listen to music at work. I got through all this just last week during work hours when I could listen without losing concentration:
1 The Conet Project 81
2 An Emergency 51
3 Pagan Wanderer Lu 44
4 The Sailplanes 43
5 The White Stripes 39
6 DARTZ! 24
7 Q and Not U 22
8 The Fall 16
9 The Dismemberment Plan 12
9 Maxïmo Park 12
Well in fact, that's only the top 10 artists. It's fairly easy to get a good idea of an album.
I can indeed listen at work, so I get through a lot there. Probably an average of 3-4 albums per week at an hour each doesn't take that long to listen to them.
That's nearly 700-800 quids worth? All bought? Honestly, that's loads if they are.
Yes, I guess it is, but I don't smoke or drink much and have quite a hard but rewarding job, it's my core interest plus it is cheeper than golf or herion addiction.
I buy everything, never download (unless legit) as I really believe if you love a band the way to ensure they release more is to support them with a purchase and you get a good quality release.
I'm not knocking it, kudos to you. You could download and sustain a healthy heroin addiction though. ;)
I tried the opposite and downloaded heroin, but it was only 96kps and to be honest it felt more like ketamine.

Lou Barlow - The Trials And Tribulations Of Being The Best Postman In The West
A stunning and revelatory indictment into the psyche of a good man gone bad making a name for himself once again against the odds to become the best postman in the west.
12 tales of how dogs cower in his presence, other posties fearing his manly beard and how he gets such good sound quality from nothing but a couple of tin cans.
Mr Sandman bring me a dream, Mr Barlow is the leader of the gang.
Blonde 23 - Readhead and The National - Boxer have both remained on my iPod.

Wow! You don't even download to evaluate?
How do you stop yourself buying a duffer by buying blind?
Most sites let you listen up front, plus I like to take a risk, found a lot of gems that way.

James Blackshaw's 'The Cloud of Unknowing' arrived yesterday morning and it's just splendid - just a dude and a 12-string - no pesky vocals or anything, just amazing playing.
Could well make my top 10, but we will have to see if it can stand the test...of time!
Don't worry: The National won't be appearing on any of my lists! :D
Nether will Bloc Party be appearing on mine! :D
Have you heard it? It's a grower of massive proportions.

There are two options here: You're implying the Bloc Party album is awful or your trying to imply I should just keep listening to The National...
The Bloc Party album is annoying because on their own I like the songs but they're all so alike listening to the album is pretty hard. Still, my list was just all the albums I bought. I'm not about to get Boxer as Alligator seemed so uninspiring.

I agree totally with your summary of Bloc Pary, I really dig some of the songs, they do blend into one another though.
The National I actually thought may have been up your alley with all it's avant garde drumming, it's quite a bit different to Aliigator IMO.

albums released this year, you say?
Willy Mason - When The Ocean Gets Rough
Elvis Perkins - Ash Wednesday
Nick Lowe - At My Age
Ben Weasel - These Ones Are Bitter
Fountains Of Wayne - Traffic And Weather
The Queers - Munki Brain
Blimey, I'm a CD Times writer and I haven't heard that many albums this year, and my tastes are going to seem really commercial compared to Adge's list...
His list makes me feel really old as I have never even heard of a lot of them:(
Adge - do you buy based on reviews or is there a radio station you listen to that plays these?
1 Marillion - Somewhere Else
2 Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
3 Manic Street Preachers - Send Away the Tigers
4 Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero
List stops - for me this last quarter has all been about Marillion, and to a lesser extent Porcupine Tree. There's a few albums released during the quarter that I want to catch up with, but the Marillion album has been played a lot, and when it hasn't I've been going back to their back catalogue.
Regarding the others, Porcupine Tree is fantastic and the Manics album a return to form. Couldn't get into the Nine Inch Nails album, though.
I buy based on tv/radio listens, reviews, myspace, back catalogue mainly. But also some great suggestions in this thread (which was it's purpose) as there are a lot of people with great taste on this board.
Most sites like boomkat let you listen and review very well so you know what you are getting, a lot of good noise and dubstep have been released this year. The problem can be the more you hear the more you buy though...
I listen in the car, at home and can listen at work when I am drawing so get through quite a lot.
As this thread has floated up again, my updated list of 2007 is as follows:
1 Rushup Edge - The Tuss
2 A Lily For The Spectre - Stephanie Dosen

Not too impressed with the Ulrich Schnauss album. He did release an EP just before. "Look At The Sky" (not on the album) was the lead track and it's absolutely awesome.
You not heard Husky Rescue yet?
