I've just upgraded from my Wharfdale 750 to one of these but when it comes to a layer change there's a pause of 3-4 seconds before the film continues. Its not a major issue but it was something i'd never experienced with my Wharfdale and to be honest id expected the Sony DVD player to be better. I've had the system chipped to play multi region dics so I was wondering if this is was responsible. Has anyone else got this problem and does anyone know if there will be a similar pause on branched discs such as Terminator 2???

Apart from this i'm very happy with the system.

Just a small point. No matter whom modded the system, modding a DVD player for multiregion regardless of brand will NOT affect layer change times.

Thanks

I have a Sony DV-PNS700 and the layer change is also quite bad (2-3 seconds). I have read elsewhere in the forum that Sony's generally do have a slow layer change. So I'm sure there's nothing wrong with your machine :)

I've a DAVS800 and mine pauses slightly too, although never quite as bad as 2-3 seconds. TBH I've only noticed it happen on a couple of discs, once in Joe Dirt and again when watching The Fast & the Furious. But it only paused for about a second so it didn't bother me...
I'll check T2 for you, at what point do you notice the pause ?

Thanks for the replies. So far i've only played parts of the theatrical release of T2 just to check out the sound so im not sure where the layer change takes place. My main concern with T2 was if I watch either the special or ultimate editions will the player pause every time it "branches" out to the extra material.

FYI I don't have a Sony but have an Aiwa DVD player and watched Blade last night and this was the first time I have ever had a noticeable pause when it switches layers....

I'm not an expert but maybe it's something to do with the way they put it on the disk??
