Battlestar Gallatica
i was thinking of Battlestar Gallatica, but not really a big si-fi fan, but reckon i could get into it, Dotor Who is shocking!!! - should have been left a long time ago when it was good!

There were five seasons of Alias before they wrapped it up - I think the first two are incredible, the third is really great and the fourth and fifth are a bit sporadic. Certainly the arc over the first three series works very well, and the show is consistently exciting for that period. It's sillier than 24, Heroes or Lost but the characters are no less well realised. In fact, Victor Garber's Jack Bristow is one of the best hard men on tv EVER.
The Wire really is very very good. Deadwod is fun too.

You really should be watching the 3rd series of Who:thumbs:
You do not have to be a fan of sci-fi to enjoy Battlestar Gallatica, just great drama.
I watched the pilot of the Wire and fell asleep just could not get into it. The Shield though I love.

Yep
Alias
For something a little less action/sci-fi based, try:
The Sopranos
Rome
The West Wing (hands sown the greatest TV show ever)

Band of Brothers as a mini-series may not count as a TV series, but for my money it is the best thing ever produced on TV.
The Shield
Rome
The West Wing
The Wire
Battlestar Galactica
Alias S1&2 (the rest are good but not up to the same standard)
Firefly (+ Serenity) and the new Battlestar Galactica are both superb series that just happen to be sci-fi.
I also highly recommend Band of Brothers it is simply one of the best things ever produced for television.
Agree have seen The Wire 1-3 and The Sheid 1-5 and both are excellent. But Sopranos is a fantastic series and it just finished :(.
Have not yet watched Rome, but have OZ in my watch pile.
Agree with Band of Brothers as best TV ever.
Out of the current crop, try Supernatural. Series 2 has topped Prison Break & Lost for me.
For comedies seinfeld and curb your enthusiasm are also worth looking at
Dexter, Weeds, Six Feet Under, Dead Like Me, The Riches?

Series which I think should not be missed by any US TV fan and think they have very few or no 'filler' episodes:
Sopranos - just have the last 5 eps to watch now. building up to a nice climax. Still highly recommended you watch from Season 1 onwards if youve never seen it.
The Shield
and if you like comedy
The Office (US version) - very different and less cringeworthy than the UK version.

Same here ( on the wire comment)

I imagine I'll be on to The Wire or Shield next, but for now I've just started watching Prison Break. A fair bit of it is stupid and unbelievable, but it's very enjoyable :)

Definitely get this! It is excellent and a great suprise for anyone who thought the americans would ruin it (including me). other than curb your enthusiasm, i would also take a look at arrested development if you're interested in comedy

I'll be watching Office (US) S1 - S3 over the next few weeks to get my TV fix as the Sopranos is no more :(
