View Full Version : Faroe Islands vs. Scotland
I couldn't see a thread about this and I'll be damned if I'm going to post it in the SPL thread with all the Old Firm scumbags. Just kidding :p not really.
6-0 at home eh? Should be looking for at least double that away I'd say. Although I'd settle for 3. None of this "oh there's no easy games" ****. The Faroes are utter mince and if it's another disaster over there I'm going to kill several people.
Yeah 3-0, I'll go for that.
Anyone got the likely lineup handy?

Well you're one goal away at the moment!
Currently 2-0, Maloney free kick and O'Conner. From the radio sounds like Boyd and O'Connor are forging a good partnership up front. Mind you the Faroes have just had a few good chances...

Good win for us tonight - stayed at 2-0 although the Faroes did have the better of the second half.
Back to top of the group for at least a couple of hours, fingers crossed that Lithuania and/or Georgia can do something against Italy and France in the other games tonight. Still a huge ask to qualify and it might end up coming down to the head to head games so it might be better for us if Italy end up toping the group and we are tied with Frances since we have managed to get a result against them so far.
Decent performance in the first half. Shocking in the second. We were lucky to keep a clean sheet.
Who got man of the match?

It's the result that matters.
Given our past form against the Faroes away any result would have done.
I would be happy finishing 3rd in the group as that would be excellent progress. I can see us ending up having to get a result against Italy which we just won't manage and another case of glorious failure for Scotland.
As we only just scrapped into pot 4 for this draw does anyone know what we need to do to get into the 3rd pot for the next set of qualifiers?
We need to get back to where we used to be for the qualifiers (2nd pot) to have a chance to qualify as I feel being in the 4th pot will mean we just miss out unless other games go our way.
However, on the whole it is great being a Scotland Supporter at the moment as the team is doing us proud.

We were not in pot 5? I thought Georgia were above us? To be honest I think our performances since Smith and then Eck came in should have done enough for us to get into a higher pot. We had been up to 14th in the last set of world rankings.
I also think it might end up going down to our performances against the other teams, and so far we have beaten France 1-0 but been beaten 2-0 against Italy and the Ukraine. I can't see us match those results so I do think we really need to hope Italy win the group and we are tied on second with France to have any chance of getting through. If that was the case then a draw in Paris would see us through.
Great time for Scotland just now, at the draw we were not given a chance, and now we are still in with a good shout with less than half the games to go.

We were in pot 4 for this comp - it would have been pot 5 if we didn't beat Slovenia in the last game of World Cup 2006 qualies.
Seeding for World Cup 2010 is based on the last 2 qualifying tournaments (2006 & 2008) and the pots were looking like this (not including the last weeks games) -
Assuming UEFA will use a system with 8 groups:
Pot 1: Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Croatia, Sweden, Poland, Portugal, England
Pot 2: Czechia, Ukraine, France, Turkey, Romania, Serbia, Russia, Greece
Pot 3: Spain, Israel, Denmark, Switzerland, Slovakia, Ireland, Norway, Bulgaria
Pot 4: Scotland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Finland, Austria, Northern Ireland, Hungary, Belgium, Belarus
Pot 5: Latvia, Slovenia, Estonia, Albania, Wales, Lithuania, Macedonia, Georgia
Pot 6: Liechtenstein, Cyprus, Armenia, Malta, Iceland, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Kazakhstan
Pot 7: Andorra, Faroe Islands, Luxembourg, San Marino, Montenegro

Based on that we only need to move up one place to get in pot 3.
Given we won last week as well that helps a bit.
Would certainly help to be in pot 3 so we can have a good attempt at getting to the next world cup.
