Hello people I really want to buy some other Anime/Animated films and hoping you can reccomend some others to me. I have recently bought the following and have really enjoyed them, if anyone has any further recomendations of these kind of films, I'd be happy to hear from you.

Already bought:
Princess Mononoke
Akira
Final Fantasy
Titan A.E
Blood the last Vampire - on order.
Toy Story 1&2
Antz
Shrek
Iron giant
Chicken Run
Prince of Egypt
Small Soldiers

Not many there I know, but as I said above this genre has only grabbed my interest over the last few weeks.

Heard that Grave of the FireFly's is an excellent film, and being very sad..... so that might be the next on my list.

I'd be interested in what you guys reccomend.

Oh and I know it's hard with the Anime genre but I'm not a big fan of subtitles, so it would be bonus if the film supports a English language.

Thanks for looking

:D :)

Palabor 1+2 are pretty good anime.
Lord of the Rings is interesting to watch. The ending is brilliantly atmospheric animation.
Wallace & Gromit is superb.

The Iron Giant is superb but be wary of Chicken Run, it ain't a quarter as good as Wallace & Gromit.

I'd also recomend

Ghost in the Shell
Wallace & Gromit - is ace I still think "a grand day out" is the best
Creature Comforts stuff - some more Nick Park / Aardman stuff
Bugs Life - more from Pixar (not as good as Toy Story)
Lord of the rings - really nice atmos and use of music...

Just before you nip out and buy the Ghost in the Shell
the (currently available) R2 has dodgy sound/lip synching on both the English and Japanese audio tracks (more noticeable on the English) I had the misfortune to get a duff copy but Play were fine about me returning it...

A question that needs asking is whether you have a multi-region capable player. If so then I would also add the following Miyazaki animations available from Japan or Hong Kong (note that HK releases may be cheaper but lack the quality of the Japanese releases):

Kiki's Delivery Service (available Japan and HK)
My Neighbour Totoro (available Japan and HK)
Grave of the Fireflies (Japan - cheap less than 3,000 yen)
Porco Rosso (about to be released in Japan)
Lupin 3 - Castle of Cagliostro (Japan and US)

Other titles I recommend:

Jin Roh
Avalon (not really animation)
The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb (sort of Eraserhead meets Wallace and Grommit)

regards, Tim...

If you can wait till spring/summer then I'd recommend

- Jin-Roh (Two versions planned, normal and a S.E. with dts sound and more extras)
- Escaflowne the Movie (ditto)

Both are coming out on R1. Other than that, if you want to go a different direction from familiy orientated material, try Ninja Scroll (R1 - R2 available, but cut) and Macross Plus (R1) for a bit more drama action. Man, where have you been when these were out on  vhs :D?

Have a look at

Ghost in the Shell
Ninja scrolls
Golgo 13:The professional

And check out the sci-fi and bravo channels, I don't get anymore but they usually have anime seasons. I think sci-fi showed an anime late every saturday.

The Sailor Moon R Movie is the best one (in my honest opinion) but it's all good, quite child friendly too, little violent and scary in places...and make sure if you are looking for something for the kids that they listen to the english track as the japanese track (and the subtitles) are a little bit more explicit on some of the *ahem* relationships
