Hi,

About 2 months ago I got a SKY HD box off ebay and replaced my Sky+ box just fine and got the HD subscription added. However I have come to notice that the sounds levels on Sky Sports HD 1 and 2 are extremely low compared to normal Sky Sports channels. I have a Panasonic PX60 if that any help.

Cheers.

I've got that problem too, not sure that there's a fix though. Even on the standard Sky+ box upstairs the movie channels' volume is lower.

Very annoying, but I don't think there's anything you can do about it.

Yeah, I've got the same. It's doubly annoying for me as the remote sensor on my amp isn't working anymore so I have to get up to turn it up.... :D

Any Tech boffin can explain this ? is it because the pictures sucks up so much bandwidth that there very meagre room for sound ? Kinda strange when it's broadcast in DD!

my biggest problem is there's over a second delay of picture and sound between SSHD1/2 and basic sports channels.
very annoying as I know someones scored during the football before its even happened on my tv.
It's got so annoying I'm gonna cancel the HD sub's.

To be fair there a delay on this computer's Freeview compared to the same channel on sky HD box.

But surely if you're watching it live and not seeing the score via any other source, you wouldn't know till it happens on the HD feed? I do notice the slight delay compared with the non-HD channels, but it's not THAT annoying surely?!

Is the sound being lower anything to do with DD, even on the footy? I notice something similar with Brainiac on Sky One HD (which sounds awesome btw!)

I assume its purely because of it broadcasting in Dolby Digital and to do with Frequency Ranges?

I have the same problem on the BBC HD channel using the Virgin+ box, if I set the sount to normal stereo it is line with the other channels, switch to DD and it is very low and I have to turn up the amp quite a bit.

Dolby Digital has greater dynamic range than analogue sound so the "normal level" is quieter to allow for louder loud bits.

How do you know? Are you watching 2 TVs at once?
