Want to buy Akira, about 2 months behind you guys!!!! which version is best? I don't care too much for extras so they won't sway me, I thought R4 has English Language which I would prefer over subtitles although someone at work said that all the versions have subtitles. Anyone know whos correct?

Thanks for looking.:)

Well, the wonder that is DVD allows the disc producers to include different language tracks and even subtitles :D As such the R1, R2French, R4 and forthcoming R2UK versions of Akira all include both the Japanese and English Audio tracks, and optional English subtitles ;)

If you don't care for extras then R4 is the way to go.

NB: The R4 is apparently the only one to include the original 1990 English soundtrack, but at the expense of the newer (some say vastly superior) 2001 English dub, which all the others contain.

i prefer the orig english track to the new one.

if i wanted the closest thing to the jap track, i would listen to the jap track !!!

1990 dub is so cheesy its great.

The R4 (and forthcoming R2 UK release) contain the new 5.1 Pioneer English dub, the old 2.0 English Dub, and the 2.0 Japanese track.

So you get the best of both worlds as far as the English dub goes.
