Just picked up xXx and 50 First Dates on Blu-ray from my local Virgin Megastore (Coventry) for a very reasonable tenner each.

Not the first time I've seen discs for this price in there, but this time, it wasn't a mis-price, as there were multiple copies of each, and they both scanned at £10 at the checkout.

Might just be local though.

Sigh, don't assume that because one retailer who typically charges over the odds for DVD movies as well they all do. The most i've paid for any Blu-Ray for £30 for the Mission Impossible trilogy boxset. After that the most i've forked out has been £15 but more typically i've paid £10 per Blu-Ray.

Good spot, just a shame none of them appeal to me, high-definition or not!

Let's hope Virgin keep this up. By the way Lady in the Water wasn't a mis-price, if that is what you were referring to.

Haven't paid more than £12 for each of my movies so far, both HD-DVD and BD

Where do you get them from? I haven't found them that cheap on my travels, but I'd like too!

Only those three this week - but it looks like different ones are marked down every few weeks.

What's the story on region coding for Blu-ray? I'm assuming titles from DVDPacific are a different region from those bought in Virgin.

Just asking as I'm considering forking out for a player sometime soon.

I was looking at prices on DVDPacific last night, some are very tempting :)

Here's a list of region free stuff too. http://bluray.lindsite.dk/

What's the story on region coding for Blu-ray?

3 regions

A: US/JPN
B: Europe/Australia
C: rest of world

If you're looking to buy a player, you'd be wise to consider a Region A player, simply because it's cheaper to import films than buy them here as it is/was with DVD. You're also going to get new titles sooner and a wider selection.

A US/JP PS3 is probably the best choice you can make, you'd get it for £300 or there abouts and all it needs is a UK "kettle lead" to use it here (it has a universal PSU). The only downside is they won't play PAL (EU/UK) DVD's

If you're looking for a standalone player (there's no good reason too IMHO) you could get one of the new $599 players from Panasonic (http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/05/15/panasonic-launches-600-dmp-bd10a-blu-ray-player-bundles-five-f/) or Sony (http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/02/27/sony-officially-announces-600-bdp-s300-blu-ray-player/) although there are rumours of cheap chinese players (http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/05/22/funai-to-produce-inexpensive-blu-ray-players/) for around $300 this christmas

Quite a few Region A marked movies are compatible on Region B players though. See the Lindsite webby a few posts above for the compatible ones.

I haven't got any (out of 30!) that are compatible with my UK PS3. :(
