2. Lost
3. Dexter
4. Veronica Mars
5. The Shield
6. Supernatural

I can only manage a Top 5 but here it is anyway!
1. Lost (despite a crap start to the season)
2. BSG (would have been top if it weren't for some very weak episodes)

Difficult this:
1. The Office (I just loved this)
2. Dexter (Debated this over #2, but it just goes ahead)
3. Heroes (Second best new show but it was VERY close)
4. House (Brilliant as always)
5. Ugly Betty (Great soapy fun which is just fun, cliche, soap operay)
6. Greys Anatomy (Ambivalent towards this, I enjoy watching it for the other characters except for the main ones)
7. Lost (Would have been so much higher had the first half been decent)
8. How I Met Your Mother (Funny in parts, Slap Bet is probably in the top 5 of episodes this Season)
9. South Park (Oh Glen, we made it!)
10. Desperate Housewives (Bang, probably the best 42 minutes of television this Season)
Notable Absences:
* My Name Is Earl - It was enjoyable but not decent enough
* Studio 60 - Couldn't stand them concentrating on the love triangle
* 24 - Apart from 6x04 & 6x17, it's just a joke, great comic relief though
* Veronica Mars - Sorry just poor this season
* Smallville - See Veronica Mars
* Prison Break - Enjoyable but there was something wrong with it

6.) Dexter

8.) The Unit
9.) Studio 60
10.) The Riches
24 just didn't cut it this series. The fact that the Bingo board is almost full just shows how lacking in ideas the writers are.
1 Heroes
2 The Sopranos
3 Entourage
4 Weeds
5 Prison Break
6 Studio 60
7 Greys
Thats all i watched of this seasons shows, still have The Shield, House and Rome to catch up on.
Edit - Forgot about S2 of Weeds

4. 30Rock

6. 24
7. Supernatural
8. Saturday Night Live
9. Knights of Prosperity
10. Andy Barker PI
With all the cancellations and series ends above - and I also liked Day Break and Drive, only the return of Curb Your Enthusiasm is going to keep my eyes turning rectangular next year.
1 Heroes
2 Friday Night Lights
3 Dexter
4 Prison Break
5 Shield
6 Sopranos
7 24 - Absolutely rubbish this season. Only in the list as I still force myself to watch it.
I only watch/watched these 7 at the moment. Nothing between the top 3 and as usual I think its only fair to pass on my appeciation to the forum for bringing my attention to them - especially Dexter and FNL, that have zero exposure outside of this forum:thumbs:
No surprises so far with who is in the lead, with more points than 2nd & 3rd places added together!
Already there has been votes for 53 different shows.
Keep them coming!

Can't resist..but so tricky
1. The Office - not just the best comedy but the best thing on TV
2. House - consistently brilliant
3. Lost - to hell with the critics, still a fantastic TV show
4. South Park - at the height of its powers
5. Heroes - overrated but damn good telly
6. Battlestar Galactica - for the first half of the season at least and *that* season finale
7. Veronica Mars - hell i'm going to miss this
8. Entourage - for Jeremy Piven
9. Weeds - for yummy mummies
8. Prison Break - a load of bow locks but so much fun

:dork: Update:
74 Members have now cast their votes between 71 different shows.
The obvious leader is romping away with it, 62 of the 74 voters have given it an average of 8.82 outta 10!
The next three places are settling in but 5th to 9th placed shows are swapping around all the time.
Good shows that are surprisingly struggling include....
Studio 60 (13th)
Rome (14th)
Boston Legal (23rd)
Ugly Betty (26th)
30 Rock (33rd)
I guess that because most of the above are not shown in the UK yet, explains why they are lower down. I'm sure if the BBC had pulled their finger out & had aired S2 of Rome, it would feature strongly in the top 10.

Am I only person to include the 4400? Does no one else rate it?
I watch it on Sky and it's OK but nothing great, I've never been gripped by it and I may not bother with the next series because of that. I note that you put it at the bottom of your list..
What really surprises me is the lack of Wire votes
It's also very noticeable that shows that are not usually shown during the normal US "season" are scoring poorly.
These include:
The 4400, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, Weeds & Brotherhood.

It's also very noticeable that shows that are not usually shown during the normal US "season" are scoring poorly.
These include:
The 4400, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, Weeds & Brotherhood.
TBH I presumed 06/07 season would be meaning from about sept-august, and didn't include the 4400 as this season hasn't aired yet so can't really give a judgement on it - it would have been in my top 3 if I included stuff from mid last year
Yeah, it should really cover everything from June '06 to May '07. Not that it matters too much.
1) The Shield
2) The Sopranos
3) 24
4) Lost
5) Greys Anatomy
6) Ugly Betty
7) Scrubs
8) 2 & Half Men
9) The Apprentice
10) Weeds
Have Started watching these but only a couple of episodes so can't include them:
Heroes
The Unit
Sleeper Cell
CSI:LV
CSI:NY
Nip/Tuck
Saving these up for summer time viewing.

I think some stuff like 4400, brotherhood and both sg1's didnt do as well as it finished like months ago.
Say what ya like about the americans but they make some awesome tv, I've gone from a big movie fan espically world cinema to a tv show nut.A few years back i would watch a film a day now its like one every 2 weeks as im too busy watching tv shows
Yeah, it should really cover everything from June '06 to May '07. Not that it matters too much.
I could have included Big Love then (I forgot really) as that starts up again next month.
I think this is one of the many lists on these forums where i could easily fill 20 spaces.
After yesterday's lacklustre finales of 24 & Heroes .... feel free to amend your scoring downwards, not that it'll influence Heroes position much.

i just dont get it
Its one of the few shows thats consistently brillant season in season out :notworthy yet doesnt get anywhere near the viewers ( on here) other shows do.
Be intresting to see if tony does a position on score againts number of votes as i bet those that did vote put it in there top 3 (sounds like a lot of hassle though lol)

The downside to that is that if a show really polarises opinion then it will do very well under that scenario as the people who place it in their top ten will no doubt place it very high. By that method I could put a program at number 1 that I know nobody else would pick and it would come top (Celebrity Wife Swap?)
I've never seen a single episode of the wire. Has it ever been shown on a terrestrial channel?
There's another show I was trying to remember the other day that followed a mafia family and the fbi team trying to take it down. It was on late nights on C4 and I watched a couple of those but missed a couple and never got round to catching up. It was probably aired 2004/05 and I can't even remember what it was called now. My roundabout point is that most people I know don't watch nearly as much tv as I do but there's loads that passes me by. I would probably love the wire (if I ever got around to watching it).
1) Lost (only just by a whisker- had the better FINALE)

After yesterday's lacklustre finales of 24 & Heroes .... feel free to amend your scoring downwards, not that it'll influence Heroes position much. I'd personally boost Lost for the finale, best Season finale I've watched this year I think. However, that doesn't excuse it for the first half being absolute rubbish, had you done this poll at the end of March, I guess Lost wouldn't feature that highly, but it really picked up, but it deserves to be punished!
If 22/23 episodes of Heroes was good, but the finale wasn't that good, then it doesn't deserve to be dampened too much (I haven't seen the last five, watching them shortly). I didn't think The Office finale was that good (compared to the others)... but I still rated the show highly (number 1 infact)
If there was a rating on Season Finales, then my list would be drastically different..

Perhaps there are quite a few people (like me) who are waiting until the summer to watch The Wire once everything else has finished.
The other problem with The Wire is that it is so difficult to jump in if you have not seen the whole lot. So those who have not followed it from the start have to make a big commitment if they want to start watching it now, to catch up.
But going on the quality of previous series, The Wire would get into my top 3, and maybe even number 1.

1 - Dexter (not really a difficult choice, absolutely blew me away)
2 - Supernatural
3 - Heroes
4 - Prison Break (not as good as one, but still fairly watchable)
5 - 24 (dammit, the weakest season so far, but it's still Jack)
6 - Lost (Barnstorming beginning, weak middle, redeemed by the end - so same as season 2 then)
7 - Blade (better than you'd think)
8 - My Name is Earl (weaker second season as with Prison Break, but worth it for Catalina episodes and the Burt Reynold's impersonator
9 - Deadwood (unfairly cancelled)
10 - The Simpsons (more out of habit than preference, but this season was an improvement on the last)
Gave up on the Soprano's after that very slow first half, from what I've read the second half makes up for it, but the first half was perhaps the worst of the six.
Also gave up on BSG, might pick it up later
Didnt get 'Ugly Betty' at all, waiting for DVD to catch up with The Shield.
I'll close this off at midnight tomorrow (Sunday) & publish the results on Monday morning as the spreadsheet is on my Work PC. Top three are well out in front but 4th to 10th are still up for grabs.
Keep those votes flowing!

3) American Dad
4) The Simpsons
There's nothing else I'd list really as I can stand any of the rest of the current stuff out there. Beats me why anyone watches stuff like Lost but anyway.
1) Heroes
2) Lost (I really think the pacing for this will benefit from having 16 episode seasons - the final run of eps was better than the climax of Heroes)
3) 24
4) Ugly Betty
I don't watch much tv. The only other shows i've watched every week have been Dr Who, Dragons Den & The Apprentice and the first 3 on my voting list are way more 'must-watch' tv than those anyway.
Have been saving a few series for the off-season, so of those I have been watching...
1. Heroes
2. Dexter
3. Lost
4. Entourage
5. Veronica Mars
6. How I Met Your Mother
7. Prison Break
8. 24
9. Studio 60
Very close between the top 3, and could quite easily be switched around on another day. Same with the bottom 3 really, disappointed by 24 and Prison Break but they ranked slightly higher as they're old favourites.

This vote has come to early for me to give an accurate vote. I’ve only seen half of some shows (h) and others I havn’t seen at all yet, hence the absence of Veronica Mars from my top ten. Shows I’ve yet to finish but seen more than half are marked (i). Doctor Who and Life on Mars would have made the list if they were American. I realise no ones interested in my short commentaries but I write them anyway.
1. Heroes – Best new show in a long time, I like how they’re doing a story a season. Makes it feel more complete. If only more shows took this approach
2. The Shield – Great and unpredictable year.
3. Jericho (i) – I love the way the show has progressed so far, yet to see the last 3 eps.
4. Battlestar Galactica – Very unbalanced year. Considering the impact it had on the crew and plot more time was needed on new Caprica. I’d have been happier with a 13 ep arc on the planet beginning when they landed, not with the invasion.
5. Lost – it’s said all a writer has to do to save a lax or slow story is to ‘wow them’ in the end. Well, they sure did that.
6. Medium (h) – Opposite to lost this belongs in the top ten for it’s openings alone. Every opening scene to their shows are amazing and I love the family aspect of this and the fact the parents can drink beer from the bottle at their family meals. Small details like this win a special place in my heart.
7. Supernatural (h) – Villan of the week plots actually work for this show and the story arc is better paced so far than similar shows like the X-files.
8. Scrubs - highest ranking comedy. It may not be as good as its early years but this show still makes me laugh than any other American comedy. Long live JD.
9. Desperate Housewives (h) – Ranking higher than 24 and Prison break, this show doesn’t fail to disappoint. The Bree/ Hodge story arc was well told and the show continues to stay fresh.
10. My Name is Earl – Not as enjoyable as last years but this shows Cops episodes secures its place just above 24 into the top 10.
Honourable mentions go to 24, Prison Break, How I met your mother, Drive, Smallville (h), Raines and Day Break. These aren’t bad shows but for some reason or another fail to get into my top 10 (if 24 stayed as good as its first 4 eps it would have been number 3) Shows not listed havn’t been watched yet.
1. HEROES
2. LOST
3. THE SHIELD
4. THE WIRE
5. SOPRANOS
6. 30 ROCK
7. DEXTER
8. HOUSE
9. THE OC
10. 24
With honourable mentions to Entourage, Prison Break, Veronica Mars, Family Guy, American Dad, Scrubs, CSI, Shark, Smallville, Criminal Minds and Raines. I also have the whole of S3 of The Office to watch and if it's half as good as S2, then it will definitely make it onto a later list.

:dork: Stats/Factoids :dork:
100 Members voted for 78 different shows.
85% of voters, had Heroes in their top 10.
19 shows only received one vote.
Battlestar Galactica finished in 3rd but only one person had it as their favourite show.
"24" finished in 7th yet no-one had it in their top-two shows.
If you take an average of the scores received by each show only, it reflects more of the quality of the show, as the scores are skewed due to the availability of certain shows.
The top 10 based on these averages are...
1. Heroes (8.80)
2. The Office (8.72)
3. Friday Night Lights (8.18)
4. The Wire (8.00)

Thanks for the effort you've put in TonyG. Five of my favourites made the top ten (including the top 3) :)
Bit disappointed that Studio 60 didn't make the top ten, and absolutely flabbergasted that 30 Rock didn't even feature in the top 20!
Yeah, if you had asked me before the new US season started last year, what new show would rate highest in our poll, I'd have put my mortgage on Studio 60 .... just a shame it hasn't lived up to its potential.
30 Rock only finished in a lowly 32nd place, with only 7 members voting for it. I was awaiting Harsin to put in an appearance as I was confident he'd rate it highly. I guess not many people watched it. Shocking when you consider that the likes of Scrubs can finish much higher (23rd) in the poll.

4) Daybreak - (did nobody else see this?)
5) Penn & Teller Bulls**t!
6) The Unit

Thanks TonyG, always interesting to see how people rank the season.
I didn't vote as I've not completed enough shows to have an overall opinion yet!
We should have one for the best individual episode of the season as well. My vote would be for the Desperate Housewives episode 'Bang', which eclipsed just about everything this year and that includes 'Company Man' from Heroes.
Some good results there, and dead chuffed FNL got a look in on both counts. When i get a lull in my TV watching habits i'm going to check out The Wire based on the love for it in this thread.

Has anyone seen the ESPN show Playmakers ? how does FNL compair ?
Its a totally different show. Playmakers was about the issues surrounding playing in the big league, injuries, contracts, drugs(Painkillers, and others).
FNL is a show about highschool, and the issues the kids face and as an aside the main characters play for the football team.
Not heard of Playmakers so can't judge. FNL pretty much has everything stacked against it. It's based on American Football, has a documentary feel to it, is set in a US high school, revolves around a middle American town and is predominantly more about growing up, living and loving between the high schoolers and their parents. It's not really something that appeals to me on paper and it may take an episode or two to get the vibe of the show but at it's heart it excels at telling stories about real people coupled with a great sporting backdrop.
Whether you like US Football or not, you're rooting for these kids to succeed and because of the realistic nature in which it's filmed I find it a great piece of escapist entertainment with characters you can really sympathise and relate to. It's not really a show that's heavily based on tactical play and becoming a NFL superstar (tho' they may dabble in that next season).
Damn i missed this too but will add what i would have had as my top 10 for fun :p
1. South Park
2. Jericho
3. Heroes
4. Lost
5. Prison Break
6. Scrubs

And dammit. I forgot about Veronica Mars :(
Thanks to this thread I have just managed to get hold of the first 10 episodes of the Heroes. It is great so far.
How do people watch some of the latest american stuff? Is it on Sky ( I only have freeview)?

Was just thinking about getting the motorised setup for a one off cost as you can pick up most Sky programs via other foreign broadcasters rather than pay Sky.
