any help would be great
thanks
I had the same problem playing region1 discs but found if I set the output to pal instead of ntsc it was fine.

i have tried using pal and RGB and it does it on both i am only using region 2 disks as that is all i have i am new to this so i am lost, the tv should take both of the above as the first 2 scarts taks pal or RGB
I had the same issue - and found it was simply the scart that is supplied. A new gold plated one seemed to resolved the issue pronto. Hope this helps.

i have found that when i put the dvd into the second scart output/input on my tv, which automatilly goes from RGB to pal, the picture flickers on pal but not on RGB, but my dvd does not apear to stay in this mode when it is turned off and then on again. This i did not know, if i put the dvd into my third scart output/input the dvd works fine in pal this is the only option on this scart.
(i will get a new gold plated scart lead and try that as i think it might be a lead problem like celtic said)
You are getting your modes mixed up !!!!!!
Firstly the TV connection modes....
There is RGB, composive video (called video on the Dansai), and little used component video (that probably makes your display go funny). These are cycled between using the button marked "v-mode" on the remote.
Set it to RGB as this will give the best quality picture over a scart lead.
Next the video modes.
The Dansai has auto, NTSC or PAL. This is cycled through using the button maked "P/N" on the remote.
This is best left in the auto position. This plays region1 DVDs as NTSC and region2 as PAL (the best option unless you have an old TV that won't display NTSC).
Now for your flickering problem.... ;)
You should really be using scart 1 on your TV .It is usually this scart that is RGB compatible.Scarts 2 and 3 often don't accept an RGB signal (only composite or S-Video).So try using scart 1 and the Dansai set to output RGB.Leave the video mode in auto.
If you still get flickering then try a better scart lead.

simes i have just tried to det the dvd to RGB which works fine but do i have to select this everytime i turn on the dvd as it it seems to always go back to pal everytime i switch it off and then back on
RGB and PAL are different options (you seem to be thinking you get one or the other - not so ).
It can do PAL and RGB at the same time.
It will stay set to RGB if you set it using the remote (v-mode key).
PAL is the TV system used by Region 2 DVDs. All Region 2 films will be played in PAL. If you play a Region 1 it will play it as NTSC.
Whichever , it will still be RGB if you have set your player to this.
I'm guessing that your TV is telling you that it is a PAL signal. It will still be RGB ;)
Has the flickering stopped though ?
My Dansai, annoyingly, seems to revert to PAL after it has been powered down, despite the fact that I use it in Auto always.
If your TV is NTSC capable then using "auto" even if you have to select it manually each time, is the best choice.

Simes & LV426,
I've just done some testing and if you change the TV mode using the PAL/NSTC/AUTO button on the remote and then power down the player, when you power it back up next time it goes back to the TV mode set in the general settings menu.
i.e. The RC button only changes the mode during that viewing session. If you want to be in AUTO all the time you need to set this option in the general setup menu.
I haven't tested it, but this is likely to apply to the output signal type Composite/RGB/SVHS, etc mode too?
Best wishes

Can anyone recommend a good scart lead for the Dansai. I have a gold ribbon scard lead (BTECH XV21R-1M5) which I bought from Beyond Hifi (cost less than £10). Just wondering if a more expensive lead would improve picture quality.

simes i can stop the flickering problem by making sure that it is not in pal. but every time i turn on the dvd i have to select rgb on the remote v mode button as it does not stay on rgb when it is turned off. i know it is not in rgb because when i press the v mode button when i swtich the dvd on it the picture only improves the the system gets to rgb but it is not in that mode first. the p/n button on the remote when it is pal the picture flickers like hell on ntsc the picture is ok and so it is in auto
thanks for the help

Its not worth buying a more expensive scart cable .I doubt you would notice any difference (a gold plated ribbon cable should be pretty good).
It is only a £99 player ;)
P.S. if you want a sharper picture from DVDs the set the pic mode to high resolution (in the set-up menus). It seems to sharpen up the image.
JERRYHALE....
I can't see why your player is not staying on RGB. Mine does. Are you sure its not on RGB when you start. If its on RGB when you press v-mode the screen will go strange (flickering and rolling) as it changes to component. If you are pressing the button 3 times when you switch on before you get to RGB ,then it was set at RGB in the first place.
It could be your TV not defaulting to RGB on the scart socket you are using.Have you checked your TV's menus to see if you can set the input for the scart socket.
I can't see why your TV should flicker with a PAL picture. You can change the default in the set-up menu to NTSC if that helps.
PAUL
There is no option in the set-up menus for RGB/composite/S-Video etc.
But the player does stay in the last mode selected using the v-mode key on the remote (well mine does ;) )

simes you are right that i am pressing the button 3 times so the dvd is in rgb mode the tv is ment to auto detect in the 1 and 2 scarts but mine is not doing it in 2 so i will have to look into that in the tv book as for the pal problem if i leave the dvd in ntsc mode wht will happen when i put in a region 2 dvd will it stay in that mode or will it then go to pal as you said that all region 2 dvds are in pal

If you go in the set-up menu , there is the option for tv-output of auto, NTSC or PAL.
If you set it to NTSC it will convert PAL DVDs (region2) into NTSC (so if your TV does not flicker with NTSC then this is your best option).Your TV should not really have problems with PAL signals though
A new scart lead won't cure your problems. It seems obvious to me now that it is a TV problem. It should be cured by setting the TV for RGB input on the scart socket you are using. If the TV does not have an option for this then use a different scart socket.
A new scart lead won't make any difference to this problem.Scart 2 will probably accept both RGB or S-Video.There should be an option somewhere to choose which (it can't do both together).
