I've got to take some photos of a newborn baby in a couple of days, the only main problem is that I don't really know what types of pics to take! (it's not like you can get them to stand up properly and make sure their ears are forward). It'll be at someone's house so no idea what backgrounds I'll have available.

I'm guessing the odd close-up in the cradle and being held by its mum etc, but anyone have any other hints?

Having just had one myself (although my wife should take some of the credit) - I found that closeups is the way to go. Ears, feet noses etc really work for me. Also, if they're asleep arrange some of their toys, use a wide aperture and focus on either the baby or the toys.

Some pictures of my boy here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/wizbowes/sets/72157600087315166/):

Have some image ideas in mind before you go. I would try and have a white sheepskin type rug or something simular for background as a sheet shows the creases and folds to much. I would try to some kind of montage type pic as the final one to give them, close up's all around and one main pic of the baby if you know what I mean. Simular to how Venture do them. Baby naked on some and maybe some kind of baby grow on some.

Single flash should be fine, I love high key stuff so have my camera under componsating and my flash over.
