View Full Version : Need a very cheap filter or two, what and from where?

I posted a thread a while ago about getting a birthday present for my friend:

I've now booked for both of us to go to here: http://www.photographersonsafari.com/pages/santago.htm

When I got the joining instructions, they said that all lenses must have a filter on. I questioned why this was, and their response (reasonably) is that the lenses need to be pushed up against the wire of the cages and so are for protection.

I have a skylight on one of mine, but the other one (52mm diameter) is naked. I don't know about my friends lenses and can't ask him until his birthday next week.

So, can I just use any old skylight or UV filter and if so, where is a cheap source (will probably have to be internet as it is hard to get to shops)?

Thanks all.

If you're not in a huge rush then I found OSD (http://www.onestop-digital.com/) to be quite competitive on filter prices. I personally use Hoya UV filters (also called Kenko).

Thanks, I will probably need them in quick time. The photography day is 3rd June.

The filters usually come in about a week, from OSD.

BTW, that looks a brilliant day. Hope you enjoy it.

If they have stock, they should be able to get it to you by the 3rd of June! You can ask in the sticky thread they have.

I've used these guys on a couple of occasions, usually get them next day too. Great service
