A few pics from the BSB round at Oulton Park.
I hired a sigma 100-300F4 this and having gone through the pictures, my panning sucks big time. makes a dyson seem pathetic.
I got better as the day went on. The lens wasnt that heavy, which was a suprise, though i should have used my monopod more, but space was a bit lacking track side.
The D80 is a nice camera, but the buffer is too small when shooting continuos RAW, a couple of times i filled the buffer and this stops the camera till its had chance to clear its self.
Was suprised at the battery life, i bought an ENEL3e clone off ebay and considering i was set up for AF-C, Continuos shooting, the battery did well.
After this weekend, the D80 needs the MB-D80 when you have a large lens fitted, would help balance it out nicely.

Pinsharp, I don't see what you mean about your panning, it seems spot on in most of them - very nice indeed.

Its probably the fact i took nigh on 600 frames. So far ive got 60 decent ones out of that lot.
It got easier as i got more used to the sigma and finally found a good rythm.
My initial thoughts when i started to look through the pics monday evening was "well that was a waste of money" but having had a look through again ive found some cracking photos.
My panning technique still is hit and miss but at least with a decent camer/lens combo i stand the chance of getting some good shots.

Reckon 10% sounds like a reasonable hit rate to me - certainly far better than a lot of people would achieve I'd imagine. Glad you think the lens hire was worthwhile as there are definitely some cracking shots in that lot!

For a first attempt with an unfamiliar lens, 10% is not to be sniffed at!

Boink!

You did good with that, when you get more familiar with the lens and quirks of the camera, you'll be able to work the combination more effectively.

Cheers for the that guys.

Initially i thought 10% was pretty bad, but to me that 10% were well worth the day. Printed one of the HM Plant Hondas out in A4 and its a cracking print. Gives a real sense of speed.
Once i've sold my motorbike, the Sigma will be first on my shopping list.

Was that race last weekend? I missed the damn thing!

I can't see anything wrong with these at all - great shots. Is that Camier and Rea?

They all look good to me.
I'd be happy with a 10% success rate.

twas on the bank holiday. very busy. took me 2 hours to get from oulton to the M56, a grand total of 8 miles!!

Defo Rea, and im pretty sure its Camier.

Was brilliant watching the Gixxers spit flames on the entrance to Hisslops.
Got one of the R1's flamming on the way round cascades.

Suprised at how small Toseland is as well. Had to buy a new baseball cap after i got my usual one signed by Toseland, Kyo, Shakey and Stalker :notworthy

As said above, some great shots there.

Which ISO speed were you using? Or did it vary?

From 160 to 400. Mainly shot in AV mode. Tried the "Sport" mode on the D80 but went back to AV pretty quickly.
