Cameraworld (http://www.cameraworld.co.uk/ViewProdDetails.asp?prod_code=PON07C000002&Prod_name=Pentax%20*ist%20DL2%20with%2018-55mm%20f3.5-5.6%20Refurbished) have both the above as Refurbished items for £250 / £300 respectively, both with 18-55mm F3.5 - 5.6 lense
Are either of them a decent camera for a beginner, would these be better than say the Canon / Nikons.
Any thought opinions appreciated.

Out of those two I'd get the K100D as it as an in-body anti-shake system, which neither Canon or Nikon have (you have to get rather expensive lenses with it built in instead).
Infact for £300 I'd say the K100D is a pretty good buy.
Agreed, especially as it comes with Anti-shake.
I'd have a quick look around for K100D reviews, but I don't think there are any major problems with it, and it'll be as good as other makes for a beginner methinks.
I got a K100D when they came out, very happy with it, your price looks good. My main reason for buying it were anti-shake. I also wanted a camera with lots of second-hand lenses available - so the Pentax is good in that regard too.

Some one else had already mentioned the fact that older lenses would be compatible and give more choice. Will have a look round at various lenses and see what is out there.
Thanks all.
The K100D uses the K mount. If you see a reference to a KA mount, then it's a K mount with an automatic aperture. If it refers to a K mount, then assume it's manual aperture unless told otherwise. I've got both types - the autos are slightly easier to use.
Don't confuse that with automatic focussing though!
Here are some lenses (I've never used them myself):

London Camera Exchange shops have a 'used search' on this web page: http://www.lcegroup.co.uk/index_group.php
There's probably a ton of older Canon/Nikon lenses too if you end up getting one of them.
