View Full Version : La Boheme - Best recording
The title says it all, I have excerpts of the above and absolutely love it. I want to buy the full version on CD and perhaps DVD too. What are the versions I should be looking for, I guess it matters?
There are a lot of recordings out there!
I've got this one Amazon (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000041TD/thedvdforums-21) recorded in 87', but I got it on vinyl and I haven't listened to it in years.
On CD I've got a Naxos recording which is the version I now listen to (as its ripped to my PC) http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp?item_code=8.660003-04
Of the two the 'critics' choice would probably be the former...

If I suggested a mono recording from 1956, would you read on?? Sir Thomas Beecham's recording with the RCA Orchestra & Chorus is the one to get - still being championed by the recognised guides, even now. It's been re-released by HMV in their 'Great Recordings of the Century' series, which are excellent - I noticed them on special offer at Virgin Oxford St last month. If you just can't live with mono, then Karajan's 1972 version with the Berlin Philharmonic should tick all the boxes.

1972 to be an opera pedant.
