Whose up for doing a monthly project on here? We pick a topic and we all then post various pics related to that theme. No prizes, just comments

I'd possibly be up for this.

I don't get much time to shoot stuff and I always find if I've taken a photo on say a tuesday it won't be post-processed in time for that weeks photo comp and hence I end up not entering.

Giving me a month to shoot something might help get some photos taken ;-)

Yeh I think thats an excellent idea. I like the idea of a topic that way it focuses you on maybe shooting something you wouldnt normally do.

That'll be the same as the other 42 Photo of the Month comps we've had before, which seems to have died a death!! Winner picks the next month's theme. A search (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=446606) reveals that Radiohead was the winner of the last comp, which was themed 'change' ...

Well, seeing as you've started the thread i'd suggest that you should get to choose the first topic. Think it'd probably be worth doing a separate thread each month and putting the ground rules at the start of each one (e.g max picture size, date the topic is valid from/to etc).

How about we you can post any related pics during that calendar month? And announce it a few weeks before.

This way, it allows people to start taking pics and then once they've seen other posters pics, they can go out and take more having been inspired. It should mean that as the month goes on, the thread gets stronger and stronger

You'll need to lay down some rules - as mentioned before valid shoot date, the old competition, allowed anyone to submit a photo they'd taken within the last 6 months, also the old competition allowed the previous winner to select the who that month's winner was - which, is obviously very personal.

Is it a competition, or a project. If comp, then need to decide how the winner is selected. If project, then Highlander's suggestion of mapping each month of the year to a subject seems like a good idea.

Bear in mind, that the old monthly compeition died a death, because people didn't have any entries to submit, or the subject matter was too vague (like one of my selections), or that all the best entries were being entered into the weekly comp.

We need to form a consensus.

So, suppose October's theme is Autumn. During the month of October you post any pics you have taken during Oct/Sept/Aug* that relate to Autumn. That way, people can use it as a long term project.

*not sure they'll be much Autumn related in October

You can post them from Oct 1 and then some more as you get inspired by other peoples ideas. So nothing to stop someone posting several photos on the 5th, then having seen someone else's ideas, posting another set a week or two later

I like this idea - setting the topic in advance and allowing pictures taken in a large time-window would give more opportunity for everyone to have a go; I certainly think it would help me.

Good ideas about the time frame etc and hopefully this will give those of us who dont have time to submit to the weekly comps time to enter too!! but not to sure about the posting several photos then changing seen this on a number of forums and people tend to lose sight or just get bored of looking at thirty pictures posted by the same member, think if it was to be kept in line with the competition rules 1 pic per user it would keep the thread more on target and stop it being dominated by those of us who have more time and can submit more pictures!:)

Don't forget this isn't meant to be the old monthly competition, it's to enable feedback so photographers here can improve their technique. If after critique the situation is available the snapper could go back, reshoot and improve upon the original submission.
It's not going to be much help just posting a random photo and expect to be praised, the theme will hopefully get people to think about composition, exposure and technique.
The extended time limit will help those who wish to shoot with film, unless you're developing your own lacks the immediacy of digital.
That's what I think anyway.

Also, it enables everyone to further develop their portfolios. For the really top ones on here, its another project opportunity

Anyhow, how about we kick off a thread for the June theme? It won't give as much as warning as we'll give in the future, but it could be a good trial.

How about for June, we go with the theme "Legs"?
