I buy all my films on VHS because it offers an analogue quality that beats anything DVD can produce. I've yet to buy one DVD and don't think I ever will.

What the **** I'm doing on these forums, I don't know.

I recently bought some Babylon 5 videos cuz they were a quid each:D .

I wouldn't buy any films on VHS though unless it was really cheap and something not yet available on DVD.

If theres something I fancy watching and I see it for 3/4/5.99 on VHS I'll make a purchase. It's a good job I bought Blood Simple for £5.99 on VHS - I'd be gutted if I bought that pile of crap for £15.99 on DVD.

In the last year I've bought 2 VHS films, Ed Wood, and Stephen King's IT. About a fiver each and not availiable on DVD yet.

Stephen King's IT though I think comes out on DVD sometime this year...

Only got one VHS since getting my DVD player. A widescreen copy of Brazil coz I ain't spending 50 bar for a film I haven't even seen. Was Soooooooooooooo close to buying Once Upon a Time in The West (w/s) though in HMVs sale. Must resist.... Wait.... for.... DVD.......

Only the big Exorcist boxset in HMV with CD and whatever else was in it. Haven't resorted to putting my Exorcist DVDs in it yet though. Oh, and a few pressies for relatives.

Other than that won't touch the stuff. I really enjoy buying a film on DVD so that I can get rid of the VHS version and think, wow! I've saved half an inch of space.

(Long pause)

VHS... aaaaaaaagggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!! The demon starts to attack us once again!!!!!!! You fool Preacher! You brought up the vile product once again! Fight!!! :D

(Paul490 starts to breathe normally again).

Back on to topic.

I last bought that horrible fomat last year. I sold off about 35 of my VHS tapes in March 2001. I don't regret it one bit. I am sad that I only got three DVDs with the money though. :(

I've bought a few ex-rental tapes from a source in Australia - in many cases it's my only chance to see the films at all, as they aren't released anywhere else!

Oh, and I bought Abbas Kiarostami's The Wind Will Carry Us, which isn't available on DVD and which I missed on its cinema run.

i never really purchased VHS in the first place, but the last one was Heavenly Creatures, simply 'cos it wasn't on DVD, and i was desperate to watch it, to get in the mood for LOTR. 5 quid well spent really.

Actually, sometimes i like VHS. And with a 43" TV, i should know better, because the quality difference between VHS and DVD is drastic to say the least!! -- but it gives me a sort of nostalgic feeling, and it kind of grounds me, and makes me appreciate DVD even more. It's like drinking No Frills cola for a week, then having Real Coke, it feels like the first time you've ever had it !! remember that feeling with your first DVD??? great :D

so Vmaybe, VHS has some good points??? ..........
no it's just *******!!!

It depends on the price!!

I got a film a while back for £3 from HMV 'above the rim', and also a godzilla/anaconda double film tape for £6.

The quality may not be there but

A - its a film i have not seen
B - there were no DVD's that i especially wanted
C - its cheaper than hiring a film (plus petrol to and from blockbuster!)

so spending £3 on a film that will keep me occupied for a few hours is quite good. I wouldnt spend anymore than £5 though, even £4 is a bit much!

When I got into DVD it rekindled my interest in films and video generally. I started looking for all the old films and series I used to like and when I couldn't get them on DVD I got them on tape. I will always buy the DVD in preference to VHS but sometimes this simply isn't an option.

Some of the things I've bought over the last couple of years are Chuck Norris films, original version of Blade Runner, Timeslip TV series. I'm still after some of the Timeslip tapes. Things like Blade Runner and the non-SE widescreen Star Wars VHS I'm keeping hold of in case those versions never make it to the glorious disk.

Long live DVD, but VHS is here to stay for a while yet.

Apart from buying a few for friends' birthdays, I haven't bought a VHS in well over two years now. Sure, there are some films and shows that aren't on disc yet, but there's plenty that is and I'm happy to wait.

but it gives me a sort of nostalgic feeling

... a bit like listening to AM radio, with that warm and fuzzy analogue distortion? I always think Radar love is the perfect AM song. Can't say I miss V*S quality though - although it's good for comparison purposes!

I replaced my old copies of the St Trinians films with new ones. I got VHS because they are not available on DVD as far as I know.

Well, I persuaded my girlfriend to watch Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with me on my VHS copy.

I couldn't believe how bad the quality was and be honest, its not the easiest film to watch anyway!

I was thinking of keeping some of my videos but i think i'll just get rid of them all now :(

I stopped buying VHS when I got a laserdisc player about 4/5 years ago. I gave up on that when DVD came out but didn't get a DVD player until just over a year ago. Needless to say I had some serious catching up to do!!
