View Full Version : Manchester United Champions 06/07, 2 Transfers in Progress + OH Deal Confirmed!
Please, no more of whatever happened 20-30 years ago...
Right, we need several class signings in the summer, just have to accept that Ferguson is no Hitzfeld, we can only win the CL again by playing stylish attacking football than via sheer tactical genius, not too unlike Barca...
Pressing midfielders non existant in our squad (Carrick can't stop jack), good enough for the Premiership but in the CL it simply doesn't cut it against better teams without a Keane or Makelele in there, long term replacements for Giggs, Scholes still needed.
Saha must be offload for a much better striker for the CL, 4-5-1 with only Rooney upfront just isn't good enough in Europe.
Class winger or two with pace and flair, at least 1 top class pressing midfielder and another striker is what we need in the summer.
to get this new one off on the right track
if we beat a barton-less City tomorrow
and Chelsea FAIL to beat arsenal (even a draw is as good as a defeat)
we are CHAMPIONS
If this thread has to be closed earlier like the previous one then there will be no more discussion regarding the club, if other supporters from other clubs try to derail this thread then not only will they be permanently banned from this forum but their threads will be closed for the rest of this season as well.
Can this thread be made Man United fans only as there's been way too much anti stuff posted in the previous threads recently.

If things do not quieten down then this is something that might be brought in, whereby people only post in their own threads. It will be a sad day if this happens but it something the I will bring in if things in these threads do not improve.

Surely Hargreaves is nailed on for you guys in the summer assuming he's fully fit now?
Surely Hargreaves is nailed on for you guys in the summer assuming he's fully fit now?
Has to be a fairly safe bet.
Only concern would be the money. Bayern know we want him, We know he wants to leave.
Means we'll end up paying 50% too much :D
As for supporters sticking to their own threads :gag:
Bit of banter's fine, just a handful of posters (from any team) that don't know when to stop.

Anyone fancy Owen? He looks as if he's put on a bit of muscle during his recuperation.
It's very possible, Hitzfield is making large changes at the club as Bayern are struggling to get back into the CL for next season.
£10M-15M might even be enough for OH considering they are planning offloading and on bringing in quite a number of players in the summer.
there are plenty of fans of other clubs who make positive contributions to this thread (even adambrunt sometimes), it's the obvious trolls who are the problem..
as for transfers.
the smart money is on Bale and Hargreaves, and a striker.
who goes to pay for them is anyone's guess.

I don't understand the problem with having a reasonable debate with supporters of other clubs? I, for one, certainly find it more interesting than Bender's tedious obsession with the everything Champions League.
It will be a very sad day if other fans (especially ones like saltysam, HBK757 etc. Fans whose opinion I respect) are banned from this thread. What are we all suppose to do? Just pat each other on the back and tell each other how good we are all day long?
Anyway, onwards and upwards .....

Wash your mouth out :nono:
;)
You don't see our inboxss that are full of complaints. This isn't open for debate, either keep the thread on track or that will be it.
Would you rather we go on and on about European Cups of the past (wrong thread some might say), or the European Cup of the present?
Premiership is almost in the bag, call it arrogant or whatever, but I always expect that every season. :D
As for this "tedious obsession with the everything Champions League", this is a Man Utd thread, it's always gonna be taking about that or the Premiership, why accept a lower benchmark than Europe?
Personally i'd like to see Mr Berbatov at ours next season.....i think he will be a class aquisition....i dont think many spurs fans will agree though ..:)

I can't see you losing the title now.
Last weekend is when you could have lost it - if you'd only been top on GD last Saturday night then I could see the pendulum swinging firmly in Chelsea's direction.
Now ... Chelsea don't have a chance. Arsenal still think, quite reasonably, that they have a chance of 3rd [ especially if they think LFC won't try anymore in the league ] and will be keen to take at least 1 point tomorrow.
Title's yours IMO.

Yeah, I'd rather have a reasoned debate with somebody about the credentials of how the competition has changed than listen to you harp on about how we should sack Fergie in order to win it.
Take this thread for example. We are 2 weeks away from completing a possible fantastic domestic double ..... and you have forgotten about all that to bang on about who we should buy in the summer to achieve your holy grail.

Expected it from when ? Since before the season began (arrogant beyond belief) ? Or from when you were x points clear in the league and had just won your semi-final ?
Weren't particularly "classy enough" in the big competition (Copenhagen, Celtic, AC Milan) ;)

God, I envy that kind of optimism. 0-0 at Eastlands until the 89th minute and one comedy defensive moment...fast forward 24 hours and Chelsea score a 92nd minute winner, Lampard's free kick hits the corner flag, rebounds back into play and into the net via the referee's shin.
My knees knock when we're three goals up; *especially* when we're three goals up I might add.

I very rarely post on this thread. Manchester United are playing Manchester City in Manchester tomorrow. Barton not playing will be a loss for us. But young Micheal Johnson from Trafford is taking his place, he looks a good un. Look out for him.
I can't see us winning this one. We have not scored at home since Jan 1st, we were awful against Villa, the last game at home. We don't look like scoring and Manchester United are scoring for fun in the Premiership.
I'm going tomorrow (Am a season ticket holder), heard a rumour that quite a few Manchester United fans have got tickets for our end, hope there's no trouble :suspect: But I think that there might be!!
Barton incident was enough for me, can't wait now til the seaon ends. Our back 4 are solid. Ball has looked a class act since signing for us, Dunne and Distin have been amongst our best players this term. Nedum at RB is a great replacement for Micah.
The rest of the team however could be torn apart by Manchester United. Ireland and Johnson, I'm happy enough with for the derby, Beasley could cause Manchester United a few problems. Sinclair has beaten a player since God knows when (Bartons beaten a few in his time but he's not playing :p )
Up front Corradi has never adapted to the Premiership, (But check out pictures of his GF, she's a topless model in Italy), Samaras has just flatered to decieve ever since he came to Manchester. Vassel is a headless chicken, who will never score a lot.
So I'm hoping for a City win, but I'm not holding out much hope.
Hope I don't upset anyone for posting in this thread. My opinion for what it's worth is if people want to discuss Manchester United in an area where others won't post, there's plenty of Manchester United forums.
People feel free to post what ya like in the Manchester City forum, felt lonely in there on my own. Banter rules
I would say 'May the best team win' but I want Manchester City to win, so I won't
Hargreaves has talked his way out of Munich, even they know that now. Only question is, are they gonna clean out your treasury in the Old Trafford basement? :D £16m odd me thinks.
Owen would be a nice signing for you lot, but no way Newcastle will take a loss on him, which means £20m odd. Awful lot of paper, but can you imagine a Rooney, Owen, Ronaldo front-line? I'll take that over Barcelona's trio, even though I think Messi is the best in the world. The kid is Maradona waiting to happen.
City are getting chewed up tomorrow IMO. Utd will have Milan revenge on their minds, plus will want to wrap the league up emphatically.
John Hodson
04-05-2007, 18:06
Was that talk months ago about a £12m buy-out clause in Owen's contract just a rumour then?
He's also damaged goods... :D Fancy a hardly used Saha in part-ex?
Expected it from when ? Since before the season began (arrogant beyond belief) ? Or from when you were x points clear in the league and had just won your semi-final ?
Weren't particularly "classy enough" in the big competition (Copenhagen, Celtic, AC Milan) ;)
Since the change of style and formation to suit the inclusion of Ballack and Shevy was clearly far inferior to the kind of football they were playing last season, we knew we would be very close.
I didn't mean I expected us to walk it, not that cocky, nobody calling themselves the special one around OT! ;)
Not classy enough for europe this season giving away all those goals, but long ball and diving around time wasting has never been our style... :p

Surely Hargreaves is nailed on for you guys in the summer assuming he's fully fit now?
But as some of you guys are saying you need others as well. If you get him do you not feel that no one else will be brought in?? I mentioned in the other thread about Giggs + Scholes as mentioned above.
If you can get Hargreave + a decent striker I do not think you need much else.
Edit: and a manager who can realise that Ropney is a striker and not a winger :D I have found it at times a bit  at Fergies thoughts as to where he should play.
Fever Dawg
04-05-2007, 18:53
Hargreaves, Lennon & Berbatov would do for me.
Then, maybe, Sidwell & Saviola who are on a free as squad players.
I like your thoughts Dawg, can't see any of them apart from Hargreaves coming unfortunately.
Etoo? Or do you think he has a bit of an attitude problem?
Fever Dawg
04-05-2007, 19:32
Eto'o in the right frame of mind is an awesome prospect at OT.
"The right frame of mind" is the key part of that sentence though.
I don't think he's the kind of character that Fergie is exactly keen on to be honest, so I think it would be highly unlikely.
Eto'o ?
ah the ticket office spin is out in the wild :)
Javier Saviola has been offered a new contract by Barcelona, but the deal would see him named as the third-choice striker and his salary dramatically cut, according to reports.

FOR THE LAST BLOODY TIME, YOU'RE NOT GETTING OUR BERBS!!!! :D
(I may look rather foolish later on in the Summer......)
Seriously, please leave him with us. PLLLLLEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEE.
we'll leave berbatov alone
if you promise to keep Defoe
Art Vanderlay
05-05-2007, 06:08
Berbatov would be a good signing, but the ability of Spurs to hold out for a good price (as with Carrick) would mean United paying well over the odds. Same applies to Lennon.
I would still like to see Torres at the club, assuming we can trigger his release cause. He has had an iffy season by all accounts, but I think that is because he put his move away from Atletico on hold last summer and is treading water. A move to a bigger club could bring the best from him again.
So my realistic wish list for next season - Hargreaves, Torres, Morten Gamst-Pedersen
Fever Dawg

Reports that Smith and Saha could start the derby today. If that's true then it would mean no Rooney? Or playing him on the left? :help:
Back to the summer shopping list:
I'd like to add Micah Richards and Tevez to the wanted list. ;)

To be honest, for a long time I've seen you as the "crouching tiger" (hope pool win the CL this year for that lad) of the City fans. Never see any bitterness, and despite the rivalry you keep a clear head.
You don't post in here often enough.
Now, back to today's game. I have sky being installed some time between 1pm and 4pm, so I am going to be missing the derby game :(
I think Owen is a class player, always going to guarantee you goals, but would it be a Ruud situation where the chances go to him and less goals are spread about the team?
John Hodson
05-05-2007, 11:11
No Saha in the squad
Useless, useless, egotistical waste of space.
I'm guessing, but that could be the reason?
Useless, useless, egotistical waste of space.
I'm guessing, but that could be the reason?
Thought he had the right attitude last season when Ruud was sulking, he got his head down and earned his place, now he's just a sulk like Ruud
You just know Manchester City will score today & end there recent drought. We just have to score more.
Saha probably had his last chance in Milan
he just didn't look bothered when he came on, at least Smith would have fought

But something else has happened today, I think; I hope it involves clearing his locker out into a black bin bag and dumping both it and it's stroppy, sulky owner on the hard shoulder of the M6 (with a cardboard 'for sale' sign round his neck).
Here we go; I can't watch (again).

Was quality when Ronaldo told him " Your **** "

What possibly more disturbing is that it seemed so pre-meditated; I'd like to think that Ball wasn't following Pearce's instructions, or simpy went too far, but I don't know.

What were they saying earlier on Sky Sports News about Manchester City's scoring record as I missed it. Was it to do with them being the lowest scorers at home in all the league and the lowest as home (if they don't score today) since 1913 or something.
If they don't score today, they beat Sunderland's premiership 'record' of 11 goals

Justice again.
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Justice again.
On first viewing it looked like a penalty but on closer viewing Brown's leg didn't move so it was a poor decision so in this case justice was done. I find it ironic that this ref could give that one but not an even more obvious one against Sheffield United.

05-05-2007, 13:26
well, i thought the decision to give the penalty was bad enough...but the penalty itself was even worse lol :D
Ball really played the ref for that penalty, he had no intention of running after the ball. Justice was done and it just goes to show why City haven't scored many at home.

EDIT - sorry, I think you were to.
erm, sub Rooney for JOS when we need the ball to stay up their end :?:
To be fair, Rooney has been fairly anonymous today
Heinze has been very poor today
none of our players have looked good at all, just too tired
but City have been worse

Fergie says he was due to go to Spain this weekend. I wonder which Spanish based players United will be linked with in tomorrows tabloids.
When Rooney went to the bench 2 Manchester City 'fans' threw there scarves at him, so he just stamped on them (the scarves that is) & sat down.

I was shocked to see the wound on Ronnie's midriff; Redknapp described it as cowardice. Ugly, ugly football.
Under the circumstances - the midweek hiding, the travelling, the punishing schedule, the number of players still coming back from injury - I'm well chuffed with that result. We looked knackered.

God yeah. That was awful. They're not going to do anything to 'endanger' anyone. Funny when Van Der Sar ran round them to throw his shirt in!

Very negative and hard to watch at times but the 3 points is the only thing we came for today.
Just felt both sides were waiting for each other to attack and take control of the game but this didn't happen and we were confortable winners in the end, apart from the pen.
Not sure how much that would have taken out the players if we had drawn that match.
Anyways, I'll be cheering on the Arsenal tomorrow, although it would be good to win the title at Stamford Bridge.
2 rooneys ?
as if that's a bad thing
how much could we have done with Tevez's never give up attitude in the San Siro the other night ?

I could live with that. As long as we get an out-and-out striker too and Hargreaves.
Will the FA or City have the guts to do something against Ball for that challenge. He shouldn't have been on the pitch, and Skys footage of the incident and the marks on Ronaldo should be sufficient for at least a 3 match ban. As he didn't receive a card for the incident, does this mean it can be referred to the FA?

Will the FA or City have the guts to do something against Ball for that challenge. He shouldn't have been on the pitch, and Skys footage of the incident and the marks on Ronaldo should be sufficient for at least a 3 match ban. As he didn't receive a card for the incident, does this mean it can be referred to the FA?
Did the ref see it ?? That's the crucial thing. If the ref saw and didn't give a card, then IIRC the FA can do nothing.

No, the ref had clearly turned away, and the linesman's view may have been blocked by Paul Scholes.
If he was trying to wind him, he was picking on the wrong player; Ronnie matures with each game. It was little short of common assault; I was furious that Pearce later washed his hands of the incident, but people in glass houses occupied by SAF and Roy Keane shouldn't throw too many stones I guess.
It was even more infuriating when Ball bought the penalty later on; if VDS hadn't have saved that...

Crazy though it is that is the rule. If the ref saw it and choose to ignore if then the FA can do nothing about it. I missed the first few minutes but if it as bad as you guys are making out and if the ref didn't see it then he should be done by the FA.
well the commentators didn't stop mentioning it for the rest of the match, so you would assume something will definitely be done about it, especially as MOTD are certain to highlight one of the few moments of 'interest' in a staggeringly poor game

Didn't the FA set a precident earlier this season though? Mendes was clattered by Thatcher at Man City who got a yellow but the FA still charged him and gave him a longish ban.
What is it with Man City players? First Thatcher, then Barton every so often and now Ball.
They did Pompey but they used some special legislation enable to do it, although what or how they managed to get around the usual obstacle that stops them from doing this I don't know. I can't thing of to many other examples when the FA have done this.

I think this is (a) a little too high profile - seen by millions on TV - and (b) a little too obvious. Ball quite clearly meant to stamp on Ronaldo, and he made sure the ref was looking away when he did it.
It was, as said, a cowardly, unprovoked, assault.
I have just seen it and agree with everything John has said above, blatantly premeditated, he deserves everything that is thrown at him. A three game ban in situations like this doesn't seen long enough IMO.

Thats the point though - exclusion clauses only apply to loans, and only became a rule not long ago after LuaLua scored against Newcastle for us when we had him on loan from them.
I was surprised last week that Howard wasen't playing as I'd thought his deal was permanent and not a loan now. Although having said that, I also recall cases of clubs selling players to clubs the week before they meet and there being a gentlemen's agreement that the player wouldn't feature against his former club.

There was no exclusion clause - just a gentleman's agreement. (if it's now a permanent transfer).
I don't remember the guardian whining when Utd agreed not to play Andy Cole against Newcastle (and Newcastle agreed not to play Gillespie against Utd). I know how got the better side of THAT deal.

The FA, unsurprisingly, are wrong.
The deal doesn't come into effect until next season (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/e/everton/6362649.stm) - until then he is only on loan and as such, under Premier League rules, was not allowed to play against Man U.
Isn't Kusczak still on loan with is, and the deal won't become permanent till the end of the season? Isn't this the same thing with Howard?
Either way, it's all hot air. It happens all over the place in the Premiership, and a 3 point deduction HOPEFULLY won't make any difference come the end of the season.
My god - optimism in the United thread. We must be nearly there!!

I know. I was just replying to the "transfer window rules" part.
On a side note. Surely the FA/Premier League have to look at the add-on bonuses that are being included in transfer deals.
Example: If United win the title then Everton will pocket £500,000 from United as part of the Rooney transfer. How can it be accepted that a club can benefit from another teams success in a competition that they are taking part in and can therefore have a direct influence? :cuckoo:

Not quite sure that a W Ham fan would be too keen on the prospect of getting points docked from Man Utd at the moment though! Don't the Hammers want the title done and dusted before next Sunday?
but this story keeps west ham out of the press, as to be fair to west ham fans, Man Utd are a slightly bigger team for the tabloids and they are obsessed with us (the tabloids)
basically it works like this
there is no way the FA will actually dock us points, no way on earth.
so west ham can say, ah, but you don't dock points for Man United, so you can't dock points for us.

But isn't the deal only permanent beginning at the end of the season though? As far as I am aware Howard stills plays for Everton under the conditions of the loan agreement between Man U and Everton as the agreement for a permanent move isn't recognised by the Premier League and won't be until the transfer window opens in June.

Fantastic acheivement. Considering how we all considered our squad in August which lets be honest none of us thought would be up to the level they have been the whole season. The likes of Fletcher, O'Shea, Brown and recently Smith have been critical with the run of injuries we've had over the past couple of months. That's part of what I dislike; he's 'deflecting criticism from his players'. Why not go the whole hog and wear a clown's suit?
The 'penalty rule' crap; less messy than bunging the ref a brown envelope.
I can't stand him. I sympathise with some of your players, who have ground it out week in week out (today you should have been blown away by Arsenal but for the most frustating forward play, but you kept going), sometimes getting results when you had no right to. But I don't sympathise with Maureen.
Anyhoo - not the issue now; the issue is that we have played the most consistently high standard of entertaining football this season, a season that many thought would find us coming a poor second again and we thoroughly deserve this title. Fabulous, just fabulous.
