Im not sure there are any other fans on here except for me, but

Gosh, golly me........Cris (disappeared after drug addiction) and Curt Kirkwood back together again and about to launch a new album for release on July 17th. Entitled Rise to your knees and on the independent Anodyne label it sounds like it could be a return to form. There is a full song from the album on myspace called 'disappear' and it sounds like they may indeed be back

Warning : for those who dont know the Puppets you should know that its not the sort of thing that you take to like a duck to water. They are very much an 'off the map' band whos strange off kilter out of tune lyrics will confound most peoples understanding of decent music. If you think this sounds like a really bad amateur band I totally understand Scratch at the surface a lot and you might find yourself warming to whats on offer (you will still grimace when letting others listen to your bad taste ).

If you do find you like what you hear may I suggest Meat Puppets II, Heuvos and Up on the Sun .

They are also touring, sadly, only in the US . If they come to the UK it will be the next best thing to having the miracle of Nirvana reforming.

Book a holiday over there man and go see 'em!

Most have probably seen them on Nirvana Unplugged, where I thought they sounded amazing. Clearly brilliant musicians.

Yeah, heard these guys a couple of years ago, surprised they're not bigger considering some of the dross that seems popular...

Accomplished musicians will always have a place in rock music, regardless of the wishes of Pete Doherty and his band of merry men

I considered it, but two holidays booked this year means I dont have the funds or the time.........maybe one day they will come to the UK. Im hoping there will not be too many fans and it will be a small discrete venue with top class acoustics, I will be seated in the same comfy chair I have at home Ccentre stage, right at the front and drinks and nibbles will be on tap and I can ask them to play anything from any album..................ah yes, it might happen one day.

I got MP II on the back of the Nirvana MTV show. As the op suggests, they are a bit weird but I really like them.

Their songs were the highlight of the MTV performance imo.

cheers mp, will pick this one up.

Big fan up to 'Up on the Sun' which is certainly in my top 10 all-time fave albums. Didn't get on too well with the later stuff, though I've been replaying 'Too high to Die' recently (I prefer them less riffy!).

A return to their earlier sound ala II and UOTS would suit me fine...

Too High to Die was the Puppets attempt to go 'Stadium' as Curt always wanted the big rock star fame thing like Van Halen..........perhaps at that point they were all doing way to many drugs ;)

Finally got the hard copy of the album. Its not in the league of Pups II, Up on the Sun or Heuvos, but it has enough to reward any pups fan. I got goose bumps part way through, it suddenly occured to me that I was listening to a modern band that are different......
