Didn't he turn out to be a nazi or something?

I quite liked Tatva and tolerated their cover of Hush.

Didn't he turn out to be a nazi or something?

He was just misunderstood!

"In the interview's most notorious quote, he expressed a desire to have a "great big flaming swastika on stage"." :p

good call, I'll definately be trying for some tickets and hoping they play the old faves, K was a classic album of the era!

I wasn't expecting this to be any good but it's pretty epic in places.

Not the worst album of the year for sure, need to listen a few more times but so far i'm liking.

2 out of 10 in this week's NME

Must say though, probably one of the few times I've agreed with that mag.

Awful band. What ungodly act did we commit to deserve for them to resurface?

I've got to step in here and state that for giving an album like this 2 out of 10, the NME reviewer should be hung, drawn and quartered.

Finally listened last night and wow, what an album. Like Robby, I didn't have too much expectation from this, but it's delivered in spades. After the disappointment of "Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts", this album has enough going for it to give it a chance of standing alongside or maybe even eclipsing Kula Shaker's debut album "K".

Whether it's Hammonds, Farfisas of Wurlitzers, "StrangeFolk" is littered with great bursts of organ. Crispian Mill's guitar playing is right on the money and whatever you think of him, he's got a voice that's better than most of the dross British inide bands can offer. And he's obviously not afraid of sending himself up, telling us that "He's a dick, he's a dick, he's a dick" in the lead up to "I'm a dictator".

There's no obvious singles and no obvious ballads on this album. When Robby says that it is pretty epic in places (see above posts), he's right again. The second half of the album just oozes class - nice touches of acoustic guitar weaving through the songs. It's certainly an album that will take quite a few listens to sink in.

Best of all, "Hurricane Season" is like a Bob Dylan story song, laced with pirate and nautical imagery ..... except that there's no accordion but an organ instead!

It can't be stressed enough that if you like Ray Manzarek's style on The Doors recordings and loved the homages on "K" then you'll find plenty to like on "StrangeFolk". There's further 60's influences in the backing vocals, bringing to mind The Byrds. The only mis-step is the title track, which is a bit of a pointless track to be honest.

One of the best albums of the year so far. Go and buy now if:-
- You liked "K" and/or
- You like good pyschedilic rock and/or
- You're fed up with tried-sounding British indie bands and/or
- You like epic songs and/or
- You can't get enough groovy organ sounds

Wow... here was I thinking I was the only person to like this... I don't give think my musical taste is all that, but hey, so what... I really like this album.

The title track is a stinker though... but the good stuff far outweighs the bad.

Better than most stuff I've heard this year... but then I have no taste :)

Or maybe you're just an independent thinker Andy, who doesn't go along with whatever's flavour of the month

Well it's a fair kop, I guess that wasn't the best place for balanced reviews, but it was just somewhere that I'd seen some positive comments recently.

How about this one:-
