Can anyone offer an opinion on the DVD release? Is it worth "upgrading" to this from the (shorter?) version taped off BBC a year or two ago?

I would say it was definately worth it. As well as the longer version of the documentary, the DVD contains the only surviving footage from "Clash on Broadway", and a lot of extra, unused, interview footage - I've watched about 30 minutes of it and there's still more to see. Strummer's anecdotes are fascinating, I could listen to him all day!

The best thing is that it's only £10.99 from Under 18 (http://www.under18.org.uk/search.cfm?act=detail&item_id=2015109&CFID=45691&CFTOKEN=59358858) :D

Thanks, Joe91. Sounds good! How much "Broadway" footage is there, and how does it look (and listen...)?

Many thanks for the tip-off. :) Last time I looked into this, the cheapest I could find it for was £14.99 at Play.

"Clash on Broadway" runs for around 22 minutes, the picture quality is on a par with the clips used in the main documentary (i.e. pretty ropey), but that's down to the source material.

The sound across the whole disc is un-compressed PCM stereo :) .

The only annoying thing is that "Westway To The World" has no chapter stops, despite there being loads of obvious places to put them. Pressing the chapter skip button advances the film by 5 minutes at a time, but drops you right into the middle of interviews and songs :(

:) Many thanks for the update. Sounds like the quality is a good as could be hoped for.

Hard to believe that this sort of oversight is still being made!!

Still £14.99 at Play... ;)

All in all, much obliged, Joe91.

By the way...can anybody offer an opinion of the DVD of "Rude Boy" also recently released?

yes I find this most annoying. But at least on "Rude Boy you can ignore all the dross and watch the "Live" bits

BTW did you know all the live footage on "RUDE BOY" was overdubbed in a studio with strummer and co playing insinc with a recording of the live footage.
I was well sick when I found out.

See Johnny Greenes book "A Riot of Our Own: Night and Day with the Clash " A great read:)

Err, it's only £10.99 with free European delivery from Under18, as mentioned in my 1st post!

I know - I got that the first time around, and had since ordered it from U18. I was simply drawing further attention to your bargain find! (Hence the winking smilie.)

Anyway, thanks again. Much appreciated. :)

For anyone interested, things are the other way around on "Rude Boy" (albeit only to the tune of a quid): £10.99 at U18, £9.99 at Play. Still interested in further opinions on this disc before taking the plunge, if anyone is in a "sharing mood". (Thanks for your input, Dazzle. Bad news on the dubbing!)

On Rude boy DVD there is 2 extra songs "American civil war" & "White Riot" I think these were originally intended for the film but if you watch closley its pretty obviously dubbed , not as well as the others. Still classic live footage. £9.99 at play still a bargain.
