OK. Has anyone got the disc yet?
Can they confirm that the chronological edit is DEFINITELY a re-edit and not just the chapters programmed to play in reverse order?
I've just read Andy C's review on the R2 project and it states on there that it is indeed a re-edit.
Also, is the commentary definitely NOT included on the R2?
There is a text on the back of the sleeve mentioning:
"The views expressed in the interviews and commentary are solely those of the individuals..."
This indicates to me that there may be a commentary?? WTF?
Sorry about all the q's
Ta muchly.

Why on earth would you want a re-edit of the film? Wouldn't that kinda defeat the object? Do you just want it for the sake of being able to see it, or do you actually think it would improve the film to watch it in the 'correct' order? Personally, I don't think I'll be buying Memento on DVD because I've already seen it about 5 or 6 times and it would just sit on the shelf collecting dust for about a year. It is a mint film though.

:o
Christopher Nolan has mentioned in interviews in the past about creating a re-edit of the film to show the character of Leonard in a different light and to portray the entire story in a different way. I'd also be interested in seeing this and seeing how it works, it's not for the sake of seeing it in the "correct" order as you say or for "the sake of being able to see it", but merely out of curiosity's sake. What's wrong with that?
If I like a film I like to see as much supplementary material/deleted scenes as I can so I can discover more about the work. In this case that would include a re-edit of the original print.

Er thanks for that...any more helpful comments?

Fair enough, but I still don't see the point of all the fuss over this re-edit. I think it's very easy to imagine how the film would play: a bunch of the black and white footage which S P E L L S out the backstory monotonously, changing to colour after about 15/20 minutes, then plodding to a conclusion which has already been spelt out for the audience, with no twists whatsoever. Memento was written and designed to be shown in the 'wrong' order. Without this gimmick, it would be a pretty dull film. The pleasure (for me, at least) came from piecing it together for myself - but when that's done for you, well...where's the fun in that? Maybe Nolan is interested in spoiling his masterpiece for me (probably for an extra buck or two), but I sure as hell aint.
As for my other comment, that was simply my way of saying how much I love the film - and that, ironically, I've experienced it so many times that I simply can't justify purchasing it, even for the alleged extra features. Plus, I'm on this whole 'why do I buy so many worthless discs' topic today. :)

Okely dokely. :)
I spotted a comment from Tom Whitaker which I was quite interested about:
Originally posted by Tom Whitaker (in another thread :p)I was lucky enough to see this at a preview screening / Q+A with Chris Nolan and his brother (who wrote the story), and asked him about the DVD there. He said he'd like to do a chronological version to show you, firstly, another side to the film (how it was essentially a horrible person being bounced back and forth by other miserable slimeballs), and also to demonstrate how it really wouldn't work backwards - how character arcs and the like only work when the film plays 'backwards' - something that becomes more apparent as you watch it in chronological order, and certain scenes stick out like a sore thumb...
Sounds like Nolan is owning up to the fact that the re-edit may not really "work" as such.....I was just interested in this myself to see if it did or not.
Totallly agree about the film though.....a work of genius, and as you say, it almost certainly wouldn't have worked if it hadn't been for the "gimmick" of reverse chronology.
Now to anyone who might actually own a copy.....it was just released today! Help me out....I need to know!
Sorry i've not got a copy. I'm gonna wait and see what materialises with this so-called SE. I've seen a few comments on here where people are not that bothered about the chronological feature (I haven't seen the film yet:eek: ) but would like to see it chronologically to see how it plays. In the same way that i'd like to see a chronological (bloody word) version of Pulp Fiction. Just as a one off.
I very nearly re-edited the film (PF) when i was at college but couldn't because i was too unsure about how the story fitted together. I think that too would make a cool DVD extra.

I bought the R2 today.
I haven't watched the "correct way round" re-edit all the way through, but I accessed it and glanced over it. The easter egg is really easy to find bt the way... one of the only easter eggs I've ever found all by myself that has some logic to it. A nice little pat on the back for me.
Anyway. It looks like the "correct way round" version has had some work done to it that makes it more than just the chapters in reverse order. It starts with the end credits playing backwards, then all the black and white scenes are edited together, then the film plays scene-by-scene forwards. It works really well.
As for whether it is "Good" to view it this way...
I don't think the purpose of this feature is to ENJOY the film this way round. I think it is just to allow you to see how the story plays out in chronological order, to better understand the plot. I don't think it would be entertaining to watch. But I admit the film confuses me a little, even after two viewings. The chronological re-edit wil make me understand how everything falls into place better.

Sounds interesting - I wonder how the disc achieves this?
I'm still puzzled by the note about a commentary on the box......

Me too....although this could well just be standard blurb from Pathé that they add to some releases whether there's a commentary or not. There are definitely interviews, so this may just be a standard phrase for the case.
Cheers for the info Squeaky G......just what we needed to know.
Now about that commentary....

Just tried it on my copy of the R2 and there is no commentary at least not via the conventinal methods of changing Audio. Maybe the back means commentary as in a persons commentary?

Where is the easter egg?
Details of the easter egg can be found here:

Fantastic disc! Although there is no commentary track, Pathe should be applauded for the fine menus and collection of extras that are there, IMHO.
Picture is top notch too!

The easter egg is in the special features menu. If you get the disc, you'll see that the special features menu is different than most discs -- instead of a list of features that can be selected, the features "cycle" through, and you have to press Enter at the precise moment a feature cycles onto the screen, This is in the form of polaroid photos inside polaroid photos... like the cover art. Anyway, you can access the easter egg by pressing Enter at the precise time between cycle loops. The time between the last feature cycling though, and the animation looping again. (So the easter egg is at "the beginning of the end"... between the last and the first special feature... that's the logic I used to find it).
It sounds like you can't understand that... but when you see the special features screen it will become clearer.
