View Full Version : Is Hayden Christensen the right person to play Anakin Skywalker?
I personally think that he is a big mis-cast. I think that he looks to much like Obi Wan.
I think that Ryan Phillipe would have been the best choice. What do you say?
Well I wouldn't be able to make an honest descision until I've seen the film.
From what i've seen of the trailers he looks suitably menacing and moody enough to portray the soon to be DV. I say give him a chance, he might surprise everyone.
THERE WAS ONLY EVER ONE PERSON TO PLAY A TEENAGE ANAKIN >
BRUCE WILLIS
Thats about as serious I consider this flic >

I'm not that impressed with his acting admittedly only based on what we can see from the trailers. However, I think it's pretty good that he's fairly unknown. Hasn't George Lucas always said that he doesn't want anyone thats bigger than the film itself. That might be a lot of BS but it kinda makes sense. However, with Ewan and Natalie, along with Samuel L Jackson, it's kinda got a decent cast already!
We shall have to wait and see!
what does it matter, most of the cast will be special effects...making it more like a disney film then a star wars classic!

as others have said, it is far too early to say and no-one is in a position to really comment until after they have seen the film. that said, if we're forming a discussion on what is available to us so far .... i wouldn't say he was mis-cast.
he looks right, he's an unknown in the star wars tradition and, most importantly, by all valid accounts he can act. he is nominated for a golden globe for best supporting actor for his role in life as a house. i think his performance in that is a far more reliable barometer of his acting talent than any trailer for episode II. that said, is an appearance in a star wars movie a reliable and fair barometer of anyone's acting talent? clearly hayden is as hampered as anyone else by the 'quality' of the dialogue.
ryan phillipe would have had the same problems, is too well known, and was much too old for the part (he's about 29).
totally disagree with you Ben. Are you telling me that they have nothing to make ryan phillipe look younger? I think i was too strong with using the word mis-cast but i do think he is wrong for the part. So if it wasn't Hayden Christensen who do u think would be able to do the part?

i don't know whether CGI technology exists to make people convincingly look younger, or older, or not but i very much doubt it. regardless, with all the other CGI and bluescreen work on the movie it's hardly surprising that lucasfilm just wanted someone the right age, especially given his expected screen time and the nature of some of the scenes.

that would be a fair statement to make after viewing the movie if you end up really thinking he was that bad. but at the moment you don't have anywhere near enough to go on. plus, any other actor wouldn't necessarily be able to give his usual level of performance on this movie as he'd have to grapple with the same awkward dialogue as hayden.
So if it wasn't Hayden Christensen who do u think would be able to do the part?
this is a pointless question. i don't think about anyone else playing the part ... it's been cast. if he turns out to be really bad i might start thinking of who else might have been cast, but even that would be a futile exercise. i remember hoping an unknown would be cast (amidst all those worrying dicaprio rumours) and that's what we got. i think hayden looks like he'll be great in the movie and i'm looking forward to it.

The question you should be asking is:
Are any of the actors right for the characters?:)

would you feel the same if you heard that bernard manning had been cast for the part?

you present this as though it's a serious point and a valid question. and it clearly isn't. that's just a stupid thing to say.
my point is that certain people can never play certain roles. and lighten up.

fair enough, but that was hardly clear from your post. it just looked like you were being facetious for the sake of it. but even so, how can anyone say whether hayden christensen can play this role or not yet seeing as no-one has seen the film?
and lighten up.
 okay, if we're looking at manning taking over .... then i suppose he might inject some much-needed humour into the role, and he'd no doubt give jar jar binks and the nemoidians a hard time! :D
Well my opinion is who cares its only Star Wars.
After seeing the latest trailer the other day I am not impressed with him at all.

so why waste your own time by posting about it then? as after all ... who cares, right?
surely not! (http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/haydenchristensen/)
is this the face of the most evil being in the universe?

I don't understand what you mean. Hayden Christensen certainly looks the part and as far as I know he could be perfect in the role. So without viewing the film I couldn't say if he was mis-cast or not. However seeing as Anakin Skywalker is a 20 year old (?) jedi, I would say a fat, ugly, racist 70 year old wouldn't require a viewing to suggest that he is mis-cast. Perfect for Jabba though.

He looks well convincing
Wjhy is Lucas directing, Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I saw some behind the scenes stuff a few days ago.........and the size of the blue screens they're using!
Doesn't seem quite a tosser as him out of Billy Elliot, but I'm sure he'll be - looks a little full of himself to me as well....
He's look more like Jason Donavon than Anakin, so no. :D
