Splendid! Now we just have to wait for Ruscico to sort out their online store.

Exact same version will be available from Artificial Eye in R2 for those who don’t want to deal with ordering from Ruscico. Will also be cheaper at £19.99 list, discounted to £14.99 at Play.

...or around £12.50 if you're a Ruscico subscriber... :D

(There is a slight drawback to this course of action, though!)

Michael, shouldn’t that be £1250? :D

Exact same version

RUSCICO's is a 2 disc set, AE's a single. Is it just the extras that are omitted?

Both Andrei Rublev and Solaris were also listed initially as single disc sets by Artificial Eye, before more accurate details (and prices) came out. It is likely that this will also turn out to be an identical 2 DVD version of the Ruscico disks.

Has anyone got a date for the UK release of 'Stalker'? I tried to contact Artificial Eye for a date, but have had no response yet.

Ah, Artificial Eye quickly got back to me -

"Stalker will be a 2 disc set comprising of a DVD9 & a DVD5. The release date for the UK is likely to be late March or early April."

Looks like it will indeed be identical to the Ruscico version.

All Art Eye’s Ruscico titles will be exactly the same as the Russian releases as that was a condition of the deal.

Probably worth getting your pre-order in for this now before the various e-tailers realise it’s a 2 disc set and have to raise the price as they’ve done with Solaris which is now £17.99 at Play.

I wouldn't complain about that, as the Ruscico discs are superb - but I'm sure you could fit the films on a single disc if you dropped the unnecessary English and French soundtracks (who the hell wants to watch Tarkovsky in dubbed English?) and a whole raft of subtitles that the UK market won't need!

It'll also be interesting to see the reaction to the discs' decidedly idiosyncratic approach to menu design, where half the time you don't have a clue what you're going to get - they're full of mysterious buttons marked 'Archive', 'Chronicles', 'Museum' and indeed 'Ruscico'.

Personally, I love it, as it forces you to explore the entire disc - I've just discovered two 15-minute cartoons buried on page three of the Hans Christian Andersen biography on An Old Old Tale! - but it's going to look more than a little weird on a fairly staid and conventional label like Artificial Eye!

Presumably Andrei Rublev will be cut though? (Incidentally, only the original cinema release is listed as cut on the BBFC website. I guess Artificial Eye precut the film before submission, possibly on BBFC advice.)

I've just pre-ordered Artificial Eye/Ruscico's Tarkovsky discs from Play - all except Andrei Rublev (I have the Criterion edition of that anyway).
