View Full Version : Sony DVP-S735D
Like an idiot, I bought for looks (and Sony's reputation) without checking sites like this. My DVD player makes a high-pitched metallic sound when the disc is playing - like a meat-slicer. Ruins my viewing pleasure - anybody else get this?

No
I'm afraid not. My 735 is just fine. I would take it back for repair as i'm not aware of any other 735 doing this :(.

I don't think you made a bad judgement buying Sony or the 735. I bought the 725, over a year ago, which is the predcesor of the 735 and that continues to work perfectly. I don't think I have seen that many critisisms of the 735 other than it was no real step forward from the 725, but note that the 725 has always been rated as one of the best DVD players in the market and excellent value. Its unusual to get a dud unit from Sony - bad luck.
My suggestion: If its less than a few months old reject it to the supplier and demand a new replacement or your full money back. Personnally I will not accept a repair on something which I still consider new. If its already well used then demand a repair under the warranty by an authorised Sony repair centre.
Good luck with getting it sorted.

If you had checked at a site like this, you would not have found too many critics of Sony's DVD players, other than the usual 'won't play cd-r's' etc. I think you have just been unlucky. As already mentioned, the plroblem is an obvious fault and you should just take it back, assuming your supplier was reputable. You can also try contacting Sony direct. They do tend to be simpathetic to those who have units that fail early.
Thanks, everyone. I'll contact the supplier - I'm a bit wary of going to a Sony centre, as the machine was made multi-region, which I'm guessing would invalidate the warranty
