It's rubbish for 3D environments isn't it? Been trying to play Mario64 and gave up in the end.

That's why Mario 64's the only game to ever use the d pad for 3D environments.

Yeah hurts like hell.

In fact the whole button arrangement on the DSL is just uncomfortable.

It can be a little uncomfortable - Resident Evil also is hindered very slightly by it - not to the extent of Mario 64, however. The original PS1 RE game managed OK with digital controls.

The only real problem with the DS IMO is the fact that it's so damn small - being so thin makes it hard to get a good grip on the unit in some games...

Mario Kart DS is the worst offender in this - having to constantly use both shoulder buttons and keep A held down gets pretty tricky after a while - your hands end up freezing into an almost arthritic pose after extended sessions...

Don't have a problem with mario Kart but Metroid is a real hand killer.

I never minded it. The original PS used a d-pad for 3D environments and nobody complained.

The PS pad could recognise diagonal presses though unlike the DS lite which is far more hit and miss.

I thought the same about the PS pad until I got used to it, having to press two seperate buttons hurt my thumbs a bit. The new miniarure d-pads on the new Nintendo handhelds aren't a patch on the original ones.
