Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=77448) are reporting there's a PC demo out (but I can't find it ) with 360 demo on the way. I'll wait for the 360 demo as my PC is pretty shoddy.
Why so little interest in this game? It looks great.

I thought it looked great too. Will grab PC demo as I've got it on preorder.

I had some interest in this game ever since reading a preview of it in an issue of PCGamer, saw the article in Eurogamer this morning and have since got round to putting a pre-order in as it does as you said look great.
Have plumped for the PC version and will deffo have a look for the demo later on. I'm really looking forward to it now.

Demo up on live. 892mb
Scored 6 outta 10 in this month's OXM magazine. Their chief complaints was that the multiplayer was poor & that the level-design was boring.
They need to sort the controls out for the final release. Camera is diabolical at the moment.

playing the demo now and really like it, it has nice evil sense of humour (it's like evil verison of pikmin with a evil yoda look a like)
Really enjoyed the demo, thought it was great fun with a wicked sense of humour.
I felt like I was controlling my own batch of Gremlins :D

I didn't even know it had multiplayer. Did they mention how it worked?
I didn't even know it had multiplayer. Did they mention how it worked?
It's quite vague. Just mentions a co-op/survival mode & a versus mode. It criticises the fact that both sides of minions look exactly the same so u have no idea who is who, and it mentions the multiplayer camera is worse than the single-player!
The publishers are eedjits releasing this the same day as The Darkness as it'll disappear without a trace, especially when you consider the weeks with bugger all coming out either side.

Briefly tried the PC demo this morning. I hate the external config program! You should be able to re-define controls inside the main game, and not have to quit when you can't remember what control is bound to which key.
mikegray

You can just hit tab to view the controls.
Enjoyed the demo - definitely won't be cancelling my pre-order, especially not at £16.

really enjoying the game so far, got use to the camera and found its not a problem now.
Found the red minions which are handy as you can select just the red ones and make them stand still to fire fireballs while you send in the normal minions to attack. Also you can forge new weapons and upgrade your current ones when you get new items for the tower.
More games should let you be the bad guy
Anybody stuck on this game yet? No real spoilers lurking within, just don't want to upset anyone of a delicate disposition.
I'm at a bit with a Big eye type creature and I have no idea how to kill it.
I have 15 minions and no matter how I respawn and die I can't kill him.
Anybody got any ideas?

the bit in the damaged castle? use the fire minions to attack the eye from ground level not on the upper floor like the game says and use the browns to kill any ninja type guards. If you send your reds up the stairs and attack the eye it will move to the other end. I hope that helps

Ive just done the same bit and this is the way I found out:
Stay at the top of the opposite stairs, have about 10 red and 5 brown minions. If you sweep them up the stairs they throw once and then it moves to the other side, so then just do the same attack from the other side. If you dont go down the stairs urself or run too close to the spawning ninjas they dont come after you and the eye dies after about 6 or 7 times of doing this side to side attack.
Hope that might help!
Well past that bit now. fivebyfive's tactic worked perfectly

Have you managed to kill Oberon yet? Ive got one of the roots left to go and I cant seem to find a way over the bridge!! Its the one quite close to the first elves you meet but there doesnt seem to be a way over there.....
EDIT - ignore that, missed a cave exit in skull den
Not got quite that far yet. Still got 3 to do.

In a dungeon in the swamp, just outside the Heaven's Peak camp. Called The Moist Hollows
I've just discovered the locations of the minions are all indicated on the map in the box :)

Not too bad actually, im now up to the desert bit after doing the paladin guy (was thinking of a Wow style healer and wasnt at all) and also killed the dwarf boss as well.
Completely stuck on the sand level though!
Loving this game now, at first I thought it looked a bit shallow but it's a lot of fun when you get into it!

Its been brilliant - however im now getting really close to the end and im ready to smash my controller as its really frustrating!
So far, I've found it very easy. I've just killed the elf boss, the brown minions are ruthless and I've got 25 under my command.

walk through the arch where you start from, you can go down and around into the water.
IMO this game is better than The Darkness.

Have tried and tried. There are rocks in the way, and now that
Kahn has been to Spree, some crumbled building has collapsed onto it as well, I cant get down there and neither can the minions.
I'm upto that part now, how do you kill the flaming eyeballs? It keeps telling me to take my minions higher but they can't reach it.

I've just finished the game, missed a lot of achievements though. Any idea how many minions can you command?
Yeah, I just finished the game too. Very enjoyable. Got loads of stuff left to go back for though.
Luckily I can do so, as there is still a continue option in the menu.
I think the minions max out at 50.

How long is the game?
Played the demo last night short but fun. Worth a punt, but new?
definatley worth it, quite a big game, I hope they make a sequel.
Picked this up at lunch after trying the demo yesterday.
Well worth it :D
It has a strange addictive quality, I ended up losing most of the afternoon and early evening without realising it. Feels very like Fable, and using the Minions reminds me of The Lost Vikings (I think).
Have just got the 3rd Minions, hoping that's still early on?
Also just realised that you can customise the Tower :D Does the list of things you can add grow, or is that your lot when you first get the option?
Third minions is still early on. There are 7 main bosses to kill, I would imagine so far you've only done one.
I think the game is probably 20-25 hours for the main story line.
You get a few different items to customise the tower as the game progresses, I've upgraded mine a few times, and I haven't actually finished it yet as I didn't get the achievement.

found some time to play it over the weekend, really enjoying the game (although there was really stupid bit of game design in the 2nd part of the brewery). I wish there was a block button (or click the left thumb stick) .
Decided to be "good" and then be really evil when I re-play it. More games need the main character to be evil
Got this at the weekend and really enjoying it, it's like a evil version of Pikimin.
The only criticism I've got of it is that they could have put a bit more guidance in, I've just got to the blue minions and spent ages dying trying to get past the green mist at the entrance to their cave.
Of course I hadn't gone into the elven forest and got the green minions yet which I need to get past the green mist. Slightly peeved that the game let me do this without any help but it's only a slight bad point on an otherwise great game.
Well I wanted to try it online last night for some cheap achivements and apparently there was nobody in the entire world playing it.
I managed to get a game, the mode I played was basically a 10 min rush to get as much evil points as possible vs another Overlord on the same map, with points for killing the other Overlord. Seemed ok tbh, although just a case of sending all your minions at him, once they're on him he's stuffed (as I found out). The single player is pretty good although I'm getting a bit bored of it now and I've not been playing it that long.
I played Survival Online and it was laggy but I was downloading on the PC so that might have contributed.
The aim was basically to survive and there was a load of characters onscreen, it seemed quite easy though. We managed 35 minutes before I died and that was only because I got bored.
It's definatley a Single Player game.

up to the kahn fight and its ****** terrible, cheap boss fights and so boring. The sand level is a bit crap, its like the game designers could not be bothered or run out of time
shame as the stuff before was really good
who's Kahn?
I thought the game was pretty easy throughout, just upgrade your armour/weapon. The easiest way is to fight Beetles in the Dungeon.

didn't you notice what happens in the game?
its nothing to do with the game being hard on that stage, its just crap game design but I spoke to soon about the crap bit, the end boss is just really really crap. Plays like it was kncked up at the last minute with all the crap game design bits
annoying v/o that get repeated for ever
infinite respawing back up for the bad guy
crap checkpoint
unimaginative end boss battle
Sorry tony, the game is good up to a point but the end is not very good

I really want to like this game but whenever I play I end up getting completely lost and never have a clear idea of where I'm meant to do what. It tells me I need the gas and water gremlin things but I don't know which I get first and where I get them. Just doesn't seem a very welcoming game to me.
It's enjoyable in short bursts. Controls & camera are very fiddly at times, which leads to frustration.

Well I have it, and it looks fun, as soon as I can stop my wife playing it I'll let you all know.
BTW tapping the left bumper resets the camera position well handy.
Anyone new to this game, who is having trouble, have a look at this small (basic) guide from an email I received from Codemasters :)
1. Getting Started with Overlord
Overlord has a different control system to other games, so its worth taking the Minion Masters tutorial at the start of the game.
Keep an eye out of tutorial messages on screen – surprisingly often they’ll help you with what comes next!
You’ll need to return to the Tower after retrieving the Tower Heart, but also remember to head back to the Tower regularly. Not only will you see your tower rebuilding improved but you’ll also get your health and mana back. And when you return to the lands many creatures will have reappeared ready for the harvesting of more lifeforce!
Can’t get into Spree?
Make sure you retrieve the Crane in the Slave Camp AND turn the wheel at the top of the platform near the Crane – this will free the Slaves. The peasants will think you’re there to help, and will let you into Spree (the fools!)
Got the Crane, freed the Slaves, but can’t find Spree?
It’s the place just after you pushed the second big pillar, and just before you toasted those Halflings with your new fireball spell.
Teleport to the Mellow Hills, and you’ll soon find it.
Where to go from Spree?
You enter by travelling North over the drawbridge.
Travel East first, and you’re on your way to the Peasants Food and the first of the Heroes.
To the North lies the secret to buying things for your tower
To the West you’ll find the depths of Evernight Forest – but before that, maybe something useful for the Tower...
You’ll need to turn the wheels to the side of the gates to open them.
I’m Stuck!
Press the Back button on Xbox 360 or Tab on PC. This will show you your outstanding quests, and perhaps give you a hint as to what to do next.
There isn’t one linear path through Overlord – so perhaps you should go back to a previous Domain and explore there…
If you can’t get through because of Fire you’ll need Red Minions. If its poison clouds you’ll need Greens. And if its water you’ll need Blues (but don’t forget the Overlord doesn’t mind getting his feet a bit wet…)
2. Overlord and Minions
How do I get new Minions?
You get new Minions by collecting Lifeforce from enemies you kill. All enemies can drop Lifeforce, but not all will. However “friendlies” such as sheep will always drop Lifeforce.
Life force is the glowing ball left on the landscape. Your Minions will pick this up and return it to you, or you can walk over it.
Remember you need to return to the Minion Gate to call Minions into the land but only up to the maximum number you can control. (Which starts at 5)
How do I get to control more Minions?
You start being able to control 5 Minions, which increases to 10 when you retrieve the Tower Heart.
You will come across other tower Objects as you play the game which will increase this further.
Also, when you find a Smelter, you can forge a helmet and imbue it with Minions to enable you to control even more Minions in your Horde.
How is the Minion Horde Power calculated?
Newborn Minions have 100% power. As they pick up Weapons, Armour and Helmets this can increase to 400%!
The Horde Power is the average power of all the Minions currently in your Horde, so it may decrease if newborn Minions are added to the current “tooled up” Horde.
Where are my Minions? How do I get them back?
Hold the “Call back” button for a couple of second. “B” on Xbox 360 or Right Mouse button on PC. Any Minions who still can’t make it back to you are probably a long way away, so you can either hunt for them, or return to your tower.
How do I get different Minion types?
You must collect the correct colour of Lifeforce in order to create a Minion of that colour.
You must also have the appropriate Hive in your possession in order to create Minions of that colour. You’ll discover these hives as you continue to play the game.
You can collect coloured Lifeforce ahead of collecting the corresponding Hive. In this instance you will see the HUD counter indicate how many Lifeforce you have, however you will be unable to create Minions of that colour until you found the proper Minion Hive.
Can the Overlord retrieve the Health and Mana he lost?
You can sacrifice Minions in Blood Pits and Mana Pits to gain back your Health and Mana. Minions will not sacrifice themselves if you are already at maximum level.
Your weakest Minions will sacrifice themselves first.
You can also return to the tower, where your Health and Mana will recharge.
Also, many barrels and chests throughout the game contain potions which can replenish Health and Mana.
What Spells are available and how do I get them?
You collect them like any Tower Object. As soon as the Object is retrieved, you can use it immediately.
The most powerful version of each of the 4 power types comes in two varieties. A corrupted one and an uncorrupted one. The same tower Object will give you the appropriate spell based upon your corruption level.
You'll be able to use:
Fire Spells
Shield Spells
Minion Spells
Domination Spells
How do the Minions react when placed on a Guard Marker?
The Guard Marker is not available until you have collected Red Minions in Melvin’s Kitchen (East of Spree). Once you get it you can experiment to get different effects
Brown Minions will stand on the periphery of the Marker defending the other Minions. They will automatically attack any enemies that get within range.
Green Minions stand behind the Browns and turn Invisible when placed on a Marker. They will jump onto the back of any enemies facing the wrong way and do loads more damage.
Blue Minions come next and will automatically run from the flag to resurrect any fallen Minions in the area.
Finally Red Minions stand in the centre protected by all the others. They will automatically use their fire attack against any enemies in range.
You can also Target Lock the Guard Marker and move it around.
Finally, make sure to try selecting one Minion type so only that colour is on the Guard Marker.
3. Objects
How do I tell an Object I can interact with?
When you get close to an Object that can be interacted with, an icon will appear.
Keep a look out for Objects which could be used as bombs…
How do I Target Lock an Object?
You lock on a target by holding the Left Trigger (or Shift).
If the Object you Target Locked is not the one you want, just release the button and re-press. The game will now select its 2nd choice (and so on).
Can I manually move Objects?
By Target Locking on certain Objects (Tower Objects, Spokes, Bombs) you are able to manually steer the Minions that carry it. (using the RS, or Mouse).
Big blocks of rock can be moved but cannot be steered. Your Minions will automatically push them along.
4. Corruption
How do I hit a peasant?
If you just press Space or the A button, you’ll hit a peasant but not cause damage.
To damage a ‘friendly’ you must Target Lock them using the Shift key, or holding the LT button.
How do I know if I perform a corrupt / uncorrupt act (e.g. hit a Peasant)?
Corrupted and uncorrupt acts have a different sound and a different looking Quest icon associated with a quest completion message.
How can you choose to be Evil or Really Evil whilst playing the game?
The Overlord starts the game as 0% corrupted.
There are a number of acts which can cause you to become more corrupted through the game.
Some of these *must* be done (e.g. choose to take food for the population of Spree or not), but others are hidden. Each of these is linked to an announcement from the Minion Jester.
There are also a limited number of ways of redeeming your corruption – to make up for some small amounts of murdering if you feel that way inclined.
5. Story and Quests
How do I get quests and how do I keep track of my progress?
When you receive a new quest, an icon flashes on the screen.
An Overlord Quest (represented by an Overlord icon) is a quest you must complete to progress in the game. When you have completed it, it will be stored in your history list and marked as completed.
Minion Quest (represented by a Minion icon) is a small quest you must complete in order to achieve bigger goals. When you have completed these, they will disappear.
6. Domains and Sub-Domains
What happens when I revisit a domain I already conquered?
Many of the creatures you defeat will return to the lands you ravaged. Main characters you defeated will not be in your way again. So only the low level creatures will return, which means it a good idea to go back to places you've conquered and gather some Lifeforce.
How do I return to the Tower?
Use a Tower Gate, or Waypoint Gate, or you can select “Return to Tower” from the Option Menu. (Although this will lead to the death of the Minions in your horde…)
7. The Dark Tower
Home of the Overlord, the tower was looted and left in ruins after the previous Overlord was defeated. It contains several main areas.
Throne room
The throne room is the central hub of the game – it contains the Portal Gate which links the Tower to Teleportation Gates throughout the land.
Spawning Pit
Available to the player at the start of the game, the player can check various statistics in this room and learn about various Minion types as they are discovered.
Forge
Weapons and armour for the Overlord can be crafted in the forge. A smelter is needed before the forge can be used.
Dungeon
The player can battle many enemies that they have previously encountered in the dungeon. The dungeon can be used for trying new tactics, harvesting lifeforce or simply for a stiff challenge. A crane is required to remove the debris blocking access to the dungeon.
Private Quarters
Once a mistress has been brought back to the Tower, the Private Quarters can be accessed. Here you can purchase Tower Customisation Objects with your Gold.
What does the Crane do?
If you manage to recover the Crane, you can start to rebuild your Tower. It'll also give you access to the Dungeon and it will give you access to the village of Spree.
On returning to the tower, the Dungeon Master will be visible in the tower. The dungeon allows you to practice against enemies encountered during the game.
Which enemies can be fought in the Dungeon?
Many of the enemies that you defeat during the game will appear in your Dungeon. You can choose to tackle them at any point, but be aware they’ll be more challenging, and any losses are permanent! (but, so are any gains in lifeforce & equipment)
How does the Forge become usable?
The first Smelter can be found near Spree. Collecting this opens the way to the Forge.
On return to the tower the Forge Master Giblet will be visible, and on first entering the forge the Minion Master will give an explanation on how to use it.
How is the forge upgraded?
Find yourself some more Smelters – but don’t expect them to be easy to obtain.
How do I change which Items are equipped?
The Armoury holds all Overlord items. It is located next to the Forge.
Here the Player can switch Weapon, Armour and Helmet.
8. General Tips
Harvest Lifeforce as you go along. Many harvest creatures will re-appear each time you return to the land so take time to harvest at every opportunity.
Lone Minions will be easily killed, so make sure you keep them on a tight reign. This can be done by using the [B] button / Right Mouse button to call careless Minions back, or later by using the Guard Marker. Sweeping also ensures lots of Minions attack the same creature. Or hold RT / Left Mouse button to send lots of Minions at the same time.
Quickly pressing the LT repeatedly will change targets. Good for making sure you target exactly what you want. (This is also a good way to attack multiple enemies such as Zombies very quickly)
The Distant-Cam is very useful in open areas, as it will allow you to see any enemies sneaking up behind the Overlord. Trigger this by pressing the right analog stick on Xbox 360. (Or just pull the mouse downwards)
(Xbox 360 only) Camera snap (LB) is very useful for making sure the camera is looking in the direction you want. Face the Overlord in the direction you want to look then press LB. You can also hold LB and use the right analog stick to move the camera around.
Tool-up your Minions. The Horde Power has a big impact on how effective your Minions are.
Well equipped Brown Minions will be able to withstand crossbow bolts.
Red Minions’ Fireball attack will increase in strength.
Blue Minions will resurrect quicker.
Green Minions will be able to take down Rock Giants in seconds.
When Minions pick up a weapon or an item of armour they will drop the currently equipped item. Make sure you sweep your weaker Minions over these discarded items to make an even stronger Horde.
Don’t be afraid to leave a Tower Object where it is and clear all obstacles in its path first. Remember, Minions carrying an Object cannot defend themselves and are easily killed. This is particularly useful when carrying large Objects like Smelters; the best tactic is too complete the area then return for the Object.
Not all enemies are on the same side. You can use others to fight for you. Rats will attack Halflings, Slugs will attack Dwarves and there are many more, so try experimenting.
Use the terrain to your advantage. Green and Red Minions have a significant advantage when attached to a Guard Marker on high ground.
Always bring some Blues (when you get them!). Blue Minions should always be in your Horde, between 5 and 10 is normally enough. Keep them out of danger and let them resurrect all the fallen Minions after a fight. This is a lot quicker than collecting more Lifeforce to replace the fallen Minions.
Blue Minions are magic immune. They can often be used to shield other Minions from magical attacks from enemies such as Ghost Elves and Zombie Lords.
Use Brown Minions attached to a Guard Marker. Browns will attack any enemies in the close area when attached to a Marker. They are also a lot more disciplined, so won’t run off to do their own thing when attached to the Marker.
Protect the weaker Minions. Reds, Blues and Greens are much weaker than Brown Minions so try to keep them out of danger as much as possible. Use the Overlord and Brown Minions to shield them from enemies.
Beer can turn the tides of a fight. Whilst your Minions can get a boost from drinking beer (similar to the effect of Minion Spells), Dwarves are almost invincible after a drink. Steer well clear of Dwarves whilst they are drinking, waiting a few seconds will cause the effects to disappear.
Many doors in The Golden Hills appear impenetrable, but look closer and there may be some handily placed bombs to blast them open.

didn't you notice what happens in the game?
its nothing to do with the game being hard on that stage, its just crap game design but I spoke to soon about the crap bit, the end boss is just really really crap. Plays like it was kncked up at the last minute with all the crap game design bits
annoying v/o that get repeated for ever
infinite respawing back up for the bad guy
crap checkpoint
unimaginative end boss battle
Sorry tony, the game is good up to a point but the end is not very good
yeah Kahn was the big hero, it took me a few goes but I beat him. You can ignore the eyeballs in the first room, and immediatley close the door in the other room to stop the spawning enemies, after that it's pretty clear sailing with your fire minions shooting him in the back whilst you play the decoy at the front.
I think once your fully levelled up then you can kill every boss without breaking a sweat.

the bit you replied to, I'm not stuck on kahn. Levelling up is annoying as it takes lots of minion for your armour (when I upgraded the 2nd one the most as I was using it)

I found that the quickest way to get minions was in the dungeon battling the beetles.
Just finished this last night and really enjoyed it. Feel like playing it all the way through again and changing some of my minon tatics. I failed to see how useful the Greens were until the end, mainly using Browns and Reds throughout the game.

Anyone else have trouble collecting the final health object in the desert? Well i've found it and i get some minions to carry it but when they get to the bridge to the town and they stop half way over it. I've completed the game i just wanted this last one as it will get me the achievement. I've tried 3 times now and the same thing happens each time. Think it must be a bug but if it is surely someone else has had it happen to them as well. Any ideas? really annoying.
Have you tried walking them over with the object yourself?
Target them while they're holding it and see if you can get them unstuck.
May seem like a strange question but anyone else having problems fighting the unicorns? I can handle most of the creatures but these seem to kick the living daylights out of me. I'm currently on the Oberon fight and they finish me off quickly.
Any tips?

the flame thrower spell works very well on most creatures (or power up your weapon so it does fire damage at the forge

completed it with zero corruption, the last boss is still cheap but if you know his weakness
green minions and the 3rd level minion spell does MASSIVE damage to him but you have to wait till it puts up a green shield. The other minions seem to have problems getting through the shield when its their colour. His constant annoying V/O at the end is still :gag:
His whirlwind attack is a bitch due to the camera angle at times
I hope there is another Overlord game but fixing the camera angles, tighten the minion control and better end boss

you need to walk around, they won't go over that bridge even though it looks like they have the room.
fivebyfive I went and stood behind the Minion Hives, none of his spells can reach you there and then as you said, the green minions can kill him easily.
