View Full Version : Who's getting R1 Buffy???
Bit of a Buffy virgin and have seen this for £25 at *********. Only seen one episode (last Thursday on BBC2). I would really like to start watching from the beginning and this looks like a good price to start at. I gather the R2 ones are cut or something and i would think R4 will be more expensive.
Anyone else getting r1 set or should it be avoided?.
I'd buy it from DVD Box Office if you're not in a major hurry to get the set on day of release. Their price of $42.95 CAD inclusive is cheapest I've seen, but delivery with be about 10-14 days. Still, that's a fiver saved for waiting a bit longer. :D
If comparing R2 with R4, the latter has always been cheaper if comparing like for like due to the good exchange rate (pricing errors not withstanding on S1 and S2 in the UK).
Robby only the episode "dead man's party" from Season 3 is cut (8 seconds) in the UK. That was an enforced cut by the BBFC.

And as I did, you can obtain it uncut, and in armary cases, from Australia.:)
OK thanks guys. With regards to suppliers i can only really go with ********* as i don't possess a CC. Cheques are the only way for me. :(
Will have another look round. Out of interest is season one a good season?, i would imagine it will focus on establishing the characters more than the others.
season 1 is OK I think, but the standards go UP as the seasons do (excluding season 4). There are some classic lines in season 1 tho
"I may be dead but i'm still pretty"
classic!:D
Hmn, I would question the standard going up as it goes on.
Many people, including me, still think that Season 2 is Buffy's finest hour. However, the standard is very consistent, except for the season 4 arc. But even season 4 had classic episodes like Hush.
As someone who only started watching Buffy regularly last year when Sky showed it all week, I have to agree S1-S3 were the best years. Season 4 seemed to lose its way somehow with the Initiative storylines not really going anywhere. Season 5 has got the series back on track and looking forward to watching my taped episodes of Season 6 when BBC2 finally get around to finishing S5 (would be nearly finished if it wasn't regularly cancelled for such important things as Snooker, Darts, etc.) :(
yup - season 2 for me as well. Superb stuff! Season 3 weren't bad but it had a lot to follow! Season 4 was a little bit of a disappointment, but as Mr Nice mentions, there's still some pretty cool episodes - yes, Hush is a bit good!
Season 5 was better, and it looks pretty good fro season 6 for what I've seen so far, but let's hope they don't stretch it too far.

Season 3 was by far the best in my opinion & was probably the start of its commercial peek, which its now starting to lose rapidly.
If you look back through Season 2, there's quite alot of turkeys.
Bad Eggs springs to mind !, possibly the single worst Buffy episode.
it's all subjective of course but personally I think season 3 was superb season 4 stank (the whole idea of 'normalising' vampires and making lots of people know about them just didn't sit with me, that's why i don't like angel as much). The second half of Season 5 was amazing from The Body on and I've seen all 11 eps so far of Season 6 (watched them all over 2 day, now feeling quite . . . strange :D) and it's up there with season 5. I have to disagree with the commercial peak thing, from my POV it's going from strength to strength.
:D
Well i got the set from ********* and i'm about half way through. And as i thought i would i'm now a Buffy convert, this is going to be expensive watching the rest of the seasons :(.
From what i've read up the only bad thing about the R2 DVD is that it comes with crappy sleeves that scratch the discs. The R1 version doesn't come out till June (don't know if i can wait that long:D ).
And as for Season 3 the best bet is R4 for the cases and the fact that it isn't cut. Am i right so far??.
Looking forward to season 2 as a lot of you say it's very good. I actually watched another from season 5 on Friday night, that also looks a great season. I see BBC are upto their old tricks again
Buffy will return after the Winter Olympics
What is wrong with them???, are they premiering season 5??, if so that is ridiculous, they did it with series 7 of the X-Files which thanks to the BBC i've totally lost touch as to what's hapened from that season onwards. They need to sort there priorities out.
Thank God for DVD!!!!!!

S1 - classic. Good fun, witty and greaty storyline.
S2 - bit more complicated storyline. the best so far. Spike is the funniest character on TV.
S3 - Very good season, although missed Spike. Faith was excellent addition to the cast. As said earlier this was the commercial peak.
S4 - crap. Only worth watching for spike. Very little to say about it that is good.
S5 - better. So great moments. Annoying Dawn though.
S6 - being taped at home.
IMO avoid all spoilers! Watch teh seris in order. Auzzie prices are cheap. Not sure about the r1 cost though.
well, if you've got the money now, you can get seasons 2 and 3 right now at the usual Aussie suppliers. Yes, season 3 in the UK has a couple of small cuts (about 8 seconds in all).
Remember, S1 was a short one with 2 onwards being the usual length (25 episodes-ish).
Agreed, I don't think they've quite hit the heights of S2, but I'm still looking forward to S4 release day in a few months.
Enjoy!
I have a soft spot for Season 1. It's a lot of fun and the characters are'nt weighed down by all the baggage they have now.
Season 2 has some classics, but some people forget that it has a fair amount of stinkers too!
Season 3 had Buffy at the height of it's powers in certain episodes......but also has it's problems mid-way through. Angel became dull(er) than normal and it get's very hectic towards the end.
Similarly, Season 4 tends to get a kicking from most fans. I thought it was one of the best Buffy seasons! Tell me a better episode of TV than 'Hush'!
Season 5 is solid and showed the writers taking a lot of risks......some that they may not recover from.
Season6.................so far.............I hope they don't follow the X-Files and go on too long. Already this season is dragging a bit and the stories are'nt up to the usual quality (excluding the musical!). If they go out after Season 7 I think Buffy will go down as one of the best Series ever.
